Hunter-Wasp

The Hunter-Wasp is a non-sentient insect species, known for it's black exoskeleton, it's orange wings, it's large stinger, and being larger than most non-sentient insects. True to it's name, it resides in desert environments, with many offshoots and variants through galaxy with slightly differing characteristics, notable planets they can be found include (and not limited to) Opportunity, Jakku, Kashyyyk, Zelos II, and Felucia.

Biology
————————

The Hunter-Wasp are insects that that perfer warm to hot climate enviroments, deserts are their perfered biome. Although they can survive or thrive in savanna or jungle environments. They see through compound eyes, have two sets of three legs, and have two sets of wings.

A fully grown Hunter-Wasp's size can get up to 40 inches in length with a wingspan of 2 meters, making them rather large insects. Not only do are they large, they are are capable of flying fast for their size in the air with their orange wings. Their movements and flight patterns are also erratic and they are very graceful in in the air, making them hard to predict.

At the rear-end of the Hunter-Wasp lies it's stinger, with the stinger it can inject a venom that can paralyze anything smaller than it whole sale for a long period of time. On a sentient being like a human, it does have a painful sting, could paralyze a limb, make it sore and swelling, as well as numbness for a few hours or so unless treated. Although it should be noted that repetitive aggressive stings could potentially be lethal to the one on the receiving end.

Diet
————————

Adult Hunter-Wasps main course of diet is nectar of flowering plants and trees, sustaining themselves with those with the most part. Hunter-Wasps can also go after smaller animals such as spiders, scorpions, snakes, and small lizards and feeding on them, but at the same time being cautious when injecting an egg to leave enough for the larva to feed upon.

Breeding
————————

Hunter-Wasps reproduce asexually by parthenogenesis and lay eggs. Fertilized eggs laid by females hatch females Hunter-Wasps, while unfertile eggs hatch males. Female Hunter-Wasps hunt, and use their venom-tipped stinger to paralyze their prey, afterwards the Wasp would drag their victim back to it's nest and then embed eggs into it's body while it's still alive. The egg would become a larva, and the larva would feed on the prey, emerging when it becomes an adult.

The insects have a lifespan average of a year, longer than most non-sapient insect species.

Behavior/Temperament
————————
Hunter-Wasp behavior can vary from location to location and by circumstance, for the most part they do tend to be territorial, not showing much hesitation to those that would come across it's barrow grounds and stinging those who might trespass. Although there are those that if left alone and isn't threatening, they will leave them alone if they are not the insects usual prey, unless provoked. If a nest is being beset by a large threat, the Hunter-Wasp will not hesitate to use their numbers to overwhelm the threat.

It is possible to 'tame' a Hunter-Wasp, they do take well to captivity once set in, although it takes time and effort.

Communication
————————

Being a non-sentient species, these insects do not verbally communicate. However, like a lot of insects, they can communicate non-verbally via releasing pheramones, also 'body language' such moving parts of it's body in certain ways, flapping of it's wings.

Strengths
————————

Paralyzing venom, Fast flight speed, erratic movement

Weaknesses
————————

Slow crawling speed, fragile, short lifespan, avoids cold weather and rain

Misc.
————————
Most hospitals are able to relive a victim of paralysis induced by the Hunter-Wasps stings, also a crafty individual could fashion an anti-venom from the Hunter Wasp's glands. The opposite is possible, as one could fashion a usable poison out of the insect's venom. (tech write-up required)

Hunter-Wasps are known for their colorful wings, and they do fetch a decent price on the market when sold.

Prefix
————————
Fanon

-- Intent

To add a potentially interesting non-sentient to the mix, a deadly and powerful insect that dwells on deserts, jungles and other similar places. These were written as a 'generic' species that could plausibly be found on other planets besides the one I linked above, with potential for regional variations, maybe some different quirks, and allow more freedom to be used often than just having them beheld them to one planet.

Inspiration for this was Fallout New Vegas and their Cazadors, behavior/biology was adapted from real life hawk-wasps.
