EXCLUSIVE: Imperial regime change as new Emperor emerges.

A renowned Drast Dynasty member has been declared the new Emperor in what was once known as the ‘Sith Empire’. Currently, simply referred to as ‘The Empire’ the regional power holds sway over a portion of the territory once held by the Order. Emperor Davik Drast becomes the first non-force-sensitive occupant of the position of Emperor in living memory.

In what marks a drastic repositioning within the Empire, Drast has stated his first ‘order of business’ will be a diplomatic mission to the Core, where he intends to meet with a range of political figures from outside the Empire itself.

Sources close to the Imperial command confirmed to the Herald today that the Emperor intends to rebuild diplomatic ties with other states and independent planets. Overall the Imperial regime seems focused on 'building bridges'.

Yet he'll no doubt face considerable challenges.

With politicians from all sides slamming the Empire in a recent session of the Galactic Senate, and some demanding the detention of tens of thousands of military personnel, it'll be an uphill struggle for the fledgling Emperor.

However, the Drast Dynasty itself boasts of considerable influence within the Core. Indeed, members of the expansive family occupy political positions on Coruscant itself, where the Emperor's own cousin serves as Senator. This connection with some of the society elites of the deep core could no doubt be worked in the Emperor's favour.

Speaking to the Herald today, Senate commentator Plon Hoolf said that the Emperor had 'a lot of soul-searching to do. The crimes of the last are not something he can simply ignore, or wash his hands of. He was a member of the Imperial regime under the Sith Order, and carried out his orders just like every other current member of the Empire.'

'He has his own chequered past, and the Galaxy's political class will, if they wish to, ensure to remind him of that when he makes his speeches in the Senate Rotunda.'

Yet Emperor Drast has committed to his approach, saying in an exclusive to the Herald:

"The Empire is acutely aware of the atrocities the Sith Order committed while part of the Empire and it will - just like the rest of the galaxy - not excuse them. It is entirely committed to the spirit of peace and unity as described by the commendated Senator from Kasshyyyk. The Emperor has made it his personal mission to right past wrongs and be a productive member of the Galactic Senate to prove to the galaxy that the atrocities of the Sith are truly in the past."

A firm statement from the new Emperor, which a source close to him confirms will 'lay the foundations' for how the Imperial regime will step into this new chapter of or its history.

Shakeup on Trandosha, as ‘Khagan’ replaced Council

Trandoshas ruling council has been replaced by a dictatorial 'Grand Khagan' the Hyperlane Herald can confirm. In an exclusive statement to this newsfeed, the new Grand Khagan slammed his predecessors on the Council as having led to 'stagnation' on his homeworld, with the elders wanting nothing more than to 'keep their power' and 'keep things the same'.

Trandosha, which lies in the same area as Kashyyyk, a world with a troubled past, has declared itself to be the 'Trandoshan Enclave', hitting out at 'speciests' outside of their sector, who have allegedly viewed his race as 'brutal animals'.

The full statement is as follows:

"For hundreds of years my people have been forced to accepted stagnation as a way of life by a council of elders that wanted to do nothing more than keep their power and keep things the same. While I was an elder, however, I had my claw on the pulse of the planet and after everything that has gone on these past two years I realized things have to change. The Trandoshan Enclave is here to change that. We are here to show the galaxy we are not just brutish animals, and we can once again we can make a stable government. Who knows, maybe we can change minds and prove any specists wrong."

The move strikes concerns of a rise in 'Warlord Politics' across the now neutral worlds of the Alliance and the New Republic. Following the collapse of the two pan-galactic governments, thousands of planets have been left to effectively fend for themselves, with defence and trade pacts declared void after the Government's dissolution.

Trandosha may be one of the first planets to openly declare a change in Government along more aggressive lines. However, analysts remain concerned that more will follow suit.

Following the recent appearance of the Grand Khagan at the Galactic Senate session this week, in which he appeared adorned in the remains of the Grand Councils' former members and the remains of Wookiees, onlookers are concerned about a more violent direction of travel for the sector.

COMMENT: Can the Senate stand up to the tasks at hand?

It's almost impossible not to have noticed, but the Senate has seen a real shakeup recently.

But when has it not been in a state of flux?

With the New Republic and the Alliance caving under the pressure of recent events, the political balance in the Galactic Senate has tilted once again.

Yet this is hardly new.

The Consortium has held a dominant position there since its founding, but the Jedi Order, and the Sith Order - both of them once enjoyed seats in that lofty hall.

Corporate interests also worked their way in, with the CSA nabbing ten seats.

Now the Empire has assumed the seats left behind by the Sith Order, the Jedi are out, and the Republic and Alliance have fractured.

The Senate bears little resemblance to what it did before the AMS virus broke out.

Yet is that a shock?

With no founding document to speak of, and no structure as to what it can and cannot actually do, the Senate seems more of a talking shop than an organ of governance.

A talking shop is prone to being quite selective with who it talks.

Only a handful of the more so-called 'civilised' regimes are invited, not the Hutts, not swathes of the Outer Rim, nor the Jedi, or the Sith Order (the Empire 'inherited' their seats, with a few questioning the legitimacy of this move).

Without such basics or purpose, can the Senate stand up to the tasks at hand?

My personal view is no.

Kessel returns to Hutt hands as system surrenders.

Shocking news from Kessel this evening, as early reports indicate the planet has surrendered to a blockade organised by the Hutt Cartel.

Communications out of the system have been spotty, yet one broadcast from the now former Governor made its way onto the Holonet.

The broadcast showed what appeared to be a large fleet blocking one end of the maelstrom, with Governor Terra Lanris, stating her system was under siege.

The Herald understands the Hutts secured a surrender, and assumed control of the area without inflicting or sustaining casualties. Governor Lanris and the defenders of Kessel were allowed to leave unharmed.

Piracy on the rise as unsteady governments abandon spacelanes.

  • An independent cargo haulier was disabled, and their goods were looted.
  • Two pirates, as of yet unidentified human and a zabrak, were behind the attack.
  • Minimal casualties were reported, but the victims claim financial damages 'in the thousands'.

In what the Spacers Guild worries could become a trend, a duo of pirates attacked and robbed a transport ship this week.

An R-41 Starchaser was used in the attack alongside an Aggressor Class Assault Freighter, which struck the lightly escorted transport vessel just shy of a hyperspace jump-point.

Piloted by a Zabrak and a Human, who have not been identified beyond their species, the ships 'destroyed' fighter escorts before attacking the cargo freighter.

Disabling the vessel, the duo made off with a sizable amount of its cargo before the ship limped to a nearby system, where its Captain contacted the authorities.

However, in the wake of the shock collapse of the New Republic and the Free World's Alliance, support was shortcoming.

Once members of those larger governments, many planets have cut back on their hyperplane patrols, with a greater focus on key routes - leaving minor routes lacking protection.

This latest case, which follows a string of piracy engagements in the mid and outer-rim, this time was carried out by a smaller outfit.

Many recent attacks have been spearheaded by larger pirate groups, marking this attack as an outlier.

Speaking to the Herald, a member of the victimised vessels crew remarked that the attack had been 'swift and deadly, it was over almost as soon as it had started' and that 'local protection was simply not available, our distress signals just did not get answered'.

Local planetary authorities have been approached for comment.

'Star Guardians' step up to help the suffering.

Newly independent planets can count on some support, with the 'Star Guardians', a humanitarian organisation 'dedicated to healing and protecting our [...] Galaxy' redoubling their efforts across the mid and outer rim.

Speaking to the Herald today, Clara Reach, the organisation's spokesperson, addressed the spate of humanitarian disasters caused by recent wars across the Galaxy.

She said: "The Star Guardians is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to healing and protecting the entire galaxy! While we are best known for our humanitarian camps on war-torn planets, we also have many medical facilities on planets throughout the galaxy to provide free healthcare to everyone, regardless of who they are or were. Making sure that no one is left behind is something we feel is incredibly important, especially in these difficult times."

With a focus on providing free healthcare to all who ask for it, the Star Guardians have a mountain to climb. Yet, they aren't alone, with the organisation seemingly attracting considerable support from crowdsourced donations.

Financially, the Star Guardians are a demanding organisation, yet the impact of their work is keenly felt. Numerous recent disasters, such as the Killik attacks and the civilian displacement in recent wars have led to swathes of refugees across the Galaxy.

It is here where the Star Guardians step in, another relief agency (but the first to me non-governmental) in a troubled galaxy.

Dantooinian farmers rejoice as bounty hunters take out local bandit.

Dantooinian farmers can sleep easy tonight, after an infamous Weequay gunslingers reign of terror was brought to an end.

Following a contract issued by the an Imperial organisation, two bounty hunters took the job of tracking down the local bandit, who had been terrorising farmers for months.

Planetary authorities had struggled to track down the offender, with their resources already stretched to 'breaking point', local civic sources have said. They welcome the support of the bounty hunters, who took matters into their own hands and restored order to the region.

The Herald understands that the contractors, who cannot be named for legal reasons, took the job through a third party with affiliations to the Empire - leaving questions to be asked as to why the Empire has intervened on legal matters on another planet.

Pileup on Bespin as kidnapping goes away.

A botched kidnapping attempt has caused a speeder pileup on the gas-mining world of Bespin.

Authorities have not yet confirmed casualties.

However the Herald understands the pile up to have been 'significant' with a large number of civilian vehicles involved.

The Senate aide, who has yet to be named, is unharmed.

Speaking to this paper, an onlooker said the accident 'happened so fast, it was like a blur.'

We'll have more on this as it develops.

The voice of reason in the tabloids, reporting for the "respectable" Holonet? Bah, but of course. Nothing was sacred these days, the fires of revolution were never going to be stoked by the comfortable middle class, sitting all comfy watching their "respected" anchors.

No, the movement needed something else entirely.
