DESCRIPTION
The IG-LN lancer droid is a model of battle droid originally developed prior to the Clone Wars by Phlut Design Systems, a small droid technology startup bankrolled by the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Designed as a versatile, highly sophisticated combat platform, the Lancer proved particularly adept as a cavalry unit, riding into battle on speeder bikes and typically armed with a powerful armor-piercing energy lance, although this was not integrated and other weapons could also be carried, including hand blasters and various melee implements.

Unfortunately for Phlut Design Systems, the company's bid to sell an army of Lancers to the Trade Federation was unsuccessful, and it was unable to pay back the loans it had taken out to fund development. As per the terms of these loans, the IGBC swooped in and took over Phlut's operations. It put the Lancer into production for use by its own debt collection arm, re-designating it the IG-LN.

At the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the InterGalactic Banking Clan pledged its droid army to the cause of the CIS, and the IG lancers were sent to the front. Riding speeder bikes and armed with their trademark energy lance, they proved devastating against Republic infantry and even vehicles. Though never as numerous as some other Confederate battle droids, such as the B1 and B2, the Lancer was more feared than either of these by Republic clone troopers.

At the end of the Clone Wars, a shutdown command was issued to all units of the Confederate military, with most IG lancers being deactivated and subsequently seized by the newly formed Galactic Empire. Most of these were scrapped, expended as aggressor units in training exercises or left to languish in storage. Those not captured by the Empire were a hot ticket on the black market, and remain so to this day. Post-war, the remnants of Phlut Design Systems were purchased by Holowan Mechanicals, who capitalized on research undertaken by Phlut personnel during the war to develop a series of bounty hunting and assassin droid models derived from the Lancer chassis, making the IG-LN the progenitor of the feared IG line.

In the present day, IG-LNs are exceptionally rare, commanding high prices both a a collectible and as a black market item.

LEGALITY
Illegal. Battle droids such as the IG-LN are highly restricted under interstellar law, with personal ownership being banned. Many beings get around this restriction by reprogramming their Lancers as personal attendants, chauffeurs and bodyguards, or at least claiming to have done so.

INTENT
To create a standard archaic battle droid model.

RESTRICTIONS
An IG-LN lancer droid is an exceptionally rare and expensive piece of equipment, with individual ownership being difficult in the present day, although not impossible. Characters based on the Lancer may be created, but will be subject to increased scrutiny by members of staff.
