To say that Altair felt like absolute shit was the understatement of the century. He cringed every time he replayed bits of that night concerning Tiamat. He knew nothing he said would ever change what happened and no apology would be enough. He knew Tia could be extremely volatile and likely to attempt killing him or plotting even more insidious things to hurt him. However, Altair wouldn’t let any of that scare him out of attempting to talk to her. He was a better man than that and he had been raised better than that. He also cared about her more than that.

The tiefling took a deep breath and exhaled as he stopped in front of the lab door. She had come to him on multiple occasions for different missions, but this was one of the rare times where he sought her out. He didn’t have any excuse or any directive to reach out to her. He was here simply for her. Finally pulling together his courage, Altair knocked on the door, curbing the anxiety he felt.

If she opened the door, she would notice he had with him a few bags of her favorite snacks expired by a week. He also had a bouquet of flowers brought over from Corellia. As an Imperial Commander, he had a lot more access to the planets under Killik siege and could intercept imports and exports. Altair doubted any of it would make any kind of difference, but Ma raised him to never show up empty handed. In this case, it was a first step towards showing her he knew he fucked up.

Tiamat hoped her presence would go unnoticed, not bothering to answer messages and instead buried herself in her math and mystery. She thought it would at least be a better distraction and she would get something done. Though staying with Renfry on Dathomir has been an ideal temporary home. The Killik invasion had disrupted her routes to return to Corellia which caused her a whole new level of worry and yearning for comfort.

Her mind was still reeling from the events of the social, which really wasn't too much of a social for her since she immediately took her leave after Altair poured out his heart out about Clove. She was infuriated she couldn't even celebrate the victory of defending Korriban, instead she drank, excessively, wasn't entirely too sure how she got from Eriadu to Dathomir after inquiring the number of empty wine bottles she had found scattered around her ship. It was hard to not think about it, to keep the tears from pouring, but it at least didn't occur unless she became stagnate or sedentary.

Standing at the board, she wrote her numbers and symbols, her droid recording her work as it would whistle occasionally when it didn't think something looked correct. Tiamat would eventually step back looking over her work, seemingly a moment of joy and satisfaction when she heard knocking at her door. She froze, hoping they would just scurry away if she didn't answer right away, but she could still feel a presence. Sighing, she glanced at the droid with a bewildered expression and then walked to the door. She didn't often get visitors, many tend to avoid her area, complaining the physics was too hard or it just didn't make sense.

Tiamat though would answer the door, catching the smell of his cologne, see his polished horns, gorgeous hair, and those violet eyes, and all she could do was freeze, it was Altair.

It was Altair...

She could feel the chill of heartache in her chest, branching outward as her fingers curled, her nails grasping painfully into door. "Altair," she managed to say finally, first with the hint of confusion, "Altair," next was a hint of annoyance, her blue gaze leaving him to rest on the flowers he held. Tia recognized each one from her homeworld and there was a longing she felt and small flicker of happiness as she remembered her home. She let out a long defeated sigh, "Those are a long way from home." she stated and turned away, allowing him to enter as she walked over to a sink and filling up a large beaker water for the flowers.

"You hurt me, Altair." she said turning to face him with the container of water.

Altair had expected her to lash out, and she’d notice how tense he was when she opened the door. What he saw instead was far worse - pain. There was pain on her face, pain in her eyes and it was entirely out of character. Had he caused that? It felt like taking a solid Matukai punch to the gut and he suddenly felt sick. However, he wouldn’t falter away, managing a faint smile as she prepared a place for the flowers. He unwrapped them and placed them in the water, staying silent the entire time.

When she spoke, he said nothing initially, but finally nodded. He almost avoided her gaze, but he knew he owed her more than that. Altair looked up and met her eyes with his own, “I hurt you,” He repeated to her, “Whatever my reasons may have been, nothin’ excuses the way I behaved with you. I won’t try to change your mind about me, because I was a complete piece of shit,” Altair sighed, “But I wanna let you know that I never intended to do you wrong like that. I fucked up taking spice, drinking and just being a god damned child instead of a man,” Altair looked down at the ground, his tail practically dragging on the floor, “Even if things weren’t gonna work out between us, saying all the shit I did was unfair to you. It humiliated you and I wish I could take it back. I woulda felt better if you just hit me or anything but you didn’t.. I just ran from it the rest of the night.”

Altair raised his head again to look at her, genuine remorse on his face, “I’m so sorry, Tiamat… I’m so sorry for bein’ a pathetic little boy when you needed a man. I’m sorry for not recognizing how much baggage I had and how I was dragging all that mess in when you wanted to start something new.”

There was silence after she spoke, there was something about saying her pain out loud that seemed to tear her right open. She could start to feel the sting in her eyes but with a forced inhale, she managed to keep everything in but it didn't help with her own tension, in fact it felt worse, as though she were becoming petrified. She let him step near, she could see his tail nearly just dragging behind; it often reflected how he felt, even at times betrayed how he felt, carrying out its own communication, and suddenly she missed how it wrapped around her and how she wished this moment was different so he would let it hold her to him.

He placed the flowers in the water, and Tiamat carefully walked it over to her desk, clearing a space, and setting back up the frame that held the white flower he gave her on their jungle adventure to find the original Asteria. "So then what did you intend?" she asked after he finished speaking, she nearly felt like she could collapse under the weight of her words. She was certainly not used to this, and could easily name things that she would rather do such as scratching Grub's back, provoking Raze, or jumping through a hypergate without checking coordinates. However, she felt if she couldn't say it now, it would never be said; she questioned if she would regret it later as she could see the remorse on his face. He knew and understood how much he messed up, or did he just know how to say the right things? This just aggravated Tia further, her trust felt shattered as she tried to pick up any piece without being cut.

"Was I going to be some side catch while you waited for your unrelenting and unwavering love for Clove to come through?" she asked, a bit of her anger starting to seep through, "Is that why you wanted casual? That 'just in case' things don't work out with Clove, then you have another warm body? Because its far from what I assumed." she questioned, fingers curling into fists, "Like some exotic redhead kink? A great fuck while you wait on someone else?" Her fists were slowly rising, and they slammed down into the air before her, her eyes closing tightly as she forced herself to stop speaking before letting out an irritated growl and inhaling deeply as she worked to keep her anger from exploding in her lab.

"I don't get why you didn't just told me no, and instead you drag me along and now...now I don't know what to believe about you or even myself." she sat on a lab stool, the chair rolling a few inches as she collapsed her face into her palms, she could feel the tears returning as she used her sleeve to wipe them away.

Altair let her tirade wash over him, knowing full well he deserved it. However, as she spoke further, she would see genuine confusion begin to appear on his face. The confusion was slowly replaced with his eyes growing wide. He took a step back and then another, resisting the urge to run. No. Not this. He felt a sense of anxiety wash over him as she finished speaking. He felt even sicker than before. Altair looked away.

“I honestly believed I was over her,” He began, keeping emotions out of his voice as best as he could, “She is the one that threw me into the New Alderaan prison. I’ve been wanting to tear her out of my mind for months and honestly thought I succeeded. It only came crashin’ down on me because she was right there. If I thought I could make things work with her, I woulda done it months ago, Tia,” He slowly looked at her again, “I said casual because I thought that’s what you wanted. Because you only came to me when you needed aid on a mission or when you needed something done. You never actually wanted to be with me just to be with me so..I thought…so I thought..”

His nostrils flared as he exhaled, “But now I see that was your way the entire time…that you were sayin’ it to me the entire time and I had no idea..couldn’t see it since you never spelled it out since I'm a clueless fuckin' idiot.. ” His voice grew quieter, “..no idea that you…..that you…”

Altair didn’t have the guts to finish the sentence. Both of them knew then and it came crashing down on the tiefling. He shifted where he stood and chewed on his lip, “I…I can leave if you’d like..” He looked up at her, genuinely sad, “I won’t bother you no more..” Altair took another step back, studying her body language before he would turn to leave. His heart was racing and his mind exploded. How could he have missed this?

She was the what?

The one who threw him into that prison on New Alderaan?

Tiamat's hate for Clove flowed a bit stronger now, she and several others risked their lives to rescue Altair from that prison. Knowing this was the same person, who seemed to be obsessed with him, who seemed to be a possible traitor working under guise of an Imperial supporter. Or someone who was so messed up that they couldn't understand who they were and know their own convictions. Clove really was a skank. Queen Skank

However, Tiamat continued to listened to Altair; she felt so conflicted, having only a night earlier telling herself she would never stand for another word from him, and now here shew as hearing at least what he had to say. Tia glanced up, seeing his confusion, then the shock, surprise, maybe disbelief as the cogs were turning in his mind, something was clicking for him, the realization of how she felt for him. Her brow furrowed in her own thoughts, he seemed stunned, then embarrassed by his own stupidity. He spoke, but his voice trailed and then offered to leave.

Tiamat didn't understand how he did not get it until now, but he understood and he wanted to excuse himself, to leave and Tiamat quickly stood up, enough to see stars in front of her eyes, "Stay please, Altair." her words surprised her, nearly finding herself trying to cup her own mouth to stop herself, but she couldn't, "I love you."

She approached him, taking his palm, "I love sharing my work with you, I love your responses, your faces, your quirks, your accent, your music. I love I could trust you, to show you parts of me no one has seen. I love how you make me slow down, how you remind me I can be...just me. I love how you can be just as you are and you don't hide it, I love who you are before me, Altair." Tia explained, pulling his palm to her cheek if he would allow her.

"I was hoping to learn more about you, if you would let me get closer, if we started something new." she continued, "I wanted to take a chance and to be at your side instead of running ahead."

Altair watched as she stood up. By now he wasn’t expecting violence, but he expected a new tirade. What she said instead took the wind out of him all over again. The tiefling allowed her to take his hand, his warm palm pressed against her cheek. His other hand still had bandaging from where he had cuts and the wounds had gotten infected.

“I know you do..” He whispered as he closed his eyes, his hand still cupping her face where she held it, “I know that now..” He considered the rest of everything she said. Altair was unsure how to take it, but he knew there was longing there. That she didn’t want to close the door. It made it all the more painful because they both knew his heart wasn’t where it needed to be.

“Tia, I ain’t gonna do you dirty. I ain’t the man you need me to be right now. I ain’t the man anyone needs me to be. I'm just hurtin' everybody,” Altair admitted quietly, “I got so much to figure out…and I’m walking a path that will likely get me killed. And risk anyone I’m with gettin' killed too…”

He almost delved into his plans, but he wouldn’t do that unless Tiamat asked. Now was not the time for him to talk about himself. He gently rubbed his thumb over her skin. He exhaled softly, “But there is one thing for certain,” He said as he gazed into her eyes, “None of this has been you. Nothing you did, nothing about you, none of that. I wouldn’t have said yes if I didn’t wanna get to know you more or spend more time with you,” Altair smiled faintly at her, “You’re stunning, brilliant - way too smart for me - and I know you can like me for me. I’ve never met anyone like you and I don’t think I ever will.”

Her heart still ached, crushing her under the weighted words as she tensed when he spoke, the its not you, its me. Which she knew herself very well that she would question herself, find things that were wrong about her and slowly lock parts of herself away that she felt were weak. His reassurance wasn't as comforting as he wanted it to be and Tiamat closed her eyes tightly, shaking her head in disagreement to him getting her killed if she were with him, "You don't need to protect me, or make promises that nothing will happen to me. Things happen to me all the time, I can take care of myself, I've always do, I have to-" because in the end no one was ever there just like now how he wanted to distance himself from her.

Her gaze returned to Altair, she wasn't ready to let go of his hand that rested against her cheek, "I don't want to see you fail Altair, I don't want you to face Raze, to explain yourself, only to see you executed by his hand or worse, he makes me do it." Tiamat explained knowing Raze was probably aware of the weakness and vulnerability she held for the tiefling. It was a nightmare scenario she could see playing in her mind, and having stood in front of Raze after her failure at Yavin, she knew there was a reality to it.

"If you don't think you'll never met anyone like me again, then why are you pulling away from me? What are you going to do that is so dangerous? Why can't I choose to walk along that path with you?" she asked him, taking his other hand, seeing it still bandaged up, and internally guessing it was not cared for at all after she left the party.

“I’m pulling away because I’m still not over her.. you heard my awful confession..” Altair said after a moment of silence. He glanced down where she grasped his injured hand. It was true, it wasn’t tended to. For all the ways she advertised helping others or being a doctor, Clove didn’t cast a second glance at his bleeding hand the entire time, “Do you really want to be with me when I ain’t fully in this? Do you wanna subject yourself to more heartbreak? I ain’t worth that and you know that.”

His nostrils flared slightly and his jaw tightened as he thought of her question. That was when he gently pulled back from her, his hands returning to his sides. He weighed his words carefully, thinking of a million different scenarios. Each of them sounded worse than the last, but he couldn’t backpedal now.

“I want to lead the Empire,” Altair stated flatly, “I want to reform the Order into something very different than what it is today. It’s a path that will put me at odds with many Sith. It may put me at odds with you,” He knew he was speaking dangerous words and he knew Tia was likely one of those that would stand against him, “It’s a path filled with bloodshed. If not others then certainly my own. It’s a path that may kill me before I reach the destination, but it’s one I’m determined to see through.”

Normally these sounded like dreams or lofty goals, but there was a rigidness to Altair that made it clear he was dead serious. The tiefling had changed over the years and he had been with the Sith long enough to know what kind of Empire he wanted. He would only make those changes when he was seated at the very top. It was a path that couldn’t afford any distractions.

It was certainly unfair for Tiamat, nearly an injustice she felt as the invisible weight kept pressing. He stepped back, reiterating what he didn't want for her, not really giving her a choice, as he was deciding for himself what he wanted. Could she respect that? Certainly. At the cost of him leaving her? She couldn't understand why so many leave her, why she even bothered to let him in. The flicker of her soul now scarred with hurt and pain once more; she didn't understand why it kept happening no matter how much she tried to change, or how much she tried to be careful.

Her blue eyes broke to avoid looking at him as she found herself suddenly pulled back into her own thoughts. She listened to Altair explain, not necessarily stating he wanted to be Emperor, that something she often heard many aspire on some fools dream or big talk to intimidate others, it was that he wanted to lead the Empire. A reformation, to make something new and it drew her interest only until he believed it would put them at odds.

However, for Tiamat she heard something different, and she suddenly regretted everything. She felt pushed away, cut out, "Very well, I get it." she whispered, feeling herself slowly withdraw back onto herself, and glanced over her shoulder, hoping there was some terrible prank being played on her. However, it wasn't and she didn't know where his path would take him or how it would cross with her again if it ever did. She didn't want to think about it, she just wanted to run.

"I'm sorry I had put you through this." Tiamat stated, though she even wondered if she was speaking to Altair and not to just herself. She opened the door for him, "I have to leave soon." she didn't know where she was going, but it was at least one thing she knew she could do well.

He wasn’t going to push to stay, not when he could clearly see she was hurting. When she gestured for him to leave, he nodded. He walked towards the door, but paused before turning to face her briefly, “If…if you can tolerate me while knowing I don’t wish to date right now, then I would love nothing more than to have you by my side,” He admitted quietly, “It’s not a journey I wanna walk alone. You are someone I would lean into and would want you to do the same with me."

Altair gazed at her for a few moments longer, “But you will have to accept the possibility that I may never love you the way you feel about me...that I may never wanna love anyone..” It pained him to say it, but she would know he had absolutely no desire to be anything but truthful with her. She had despised him for coming across less than genuine and that was never happening again.

Unless she stopped him, he gave her a nod and walked out, his tail still hanging low behind him.

Tiamat looked up when he paused at the door, listening, explaining what he would like going forward. Could she do that for him? Could she still love him but let him heal from whatever transgressions happened to him? Let him decide what he wanted? She remembered when she realized Emryc would not love her as she loved him. His interests lied elsewhere, and despite how hard it was, she was able to get through it, to be okay with how things were now. She questioned internally if she could do that now, even if he chose never to love anyone.

Her brow narrowed when he said that, curiosity as to what has happened to him to lead him to such a path. It was genuinely clear he didn't want to hurt her.

However, he turned to leave and his tail still drooped behind him, the pain and heartache was still present as she watched, frozen, torn on what she should do or to say something. The voices still tore in her mind, and she wanted out, to flee, to get out, to leave; she noticed the snacks he had also brought for her, picking up the bag and noticed the expiration date. Not only were they her favorite, but he remembered she didn't necessarily like them fresh.

"Wait, Altair!" she called out, walking quickly before picking up into a brief jog to catch up to him, chips in hand, "Wait, can we just hang?" she asked him, "I don't know how to do that, but I would rather do that than have to leave because it would be boring I think." she admitted.

Altair sighed as he kept walking, stuffing his hands into his hoodie pockets. He was surprised when he heard his name, turning to see Tia jogging up to catch up to him. He blinked in shock to spot the bag of chips in her hand. Altair paused for a moment before answering, but a smile appeared on his face.

“I’d like that..” He said as he motioned for her to lead the way back, “But I ain’t eatin’ the snacks I got you. You know that, right?” He called out with a grin as they walked back in.

“How do you feel about watching Dead Evil 4?”

Tiamat was already digging into the bag of chips, suddenly feeling hungry as she saw his smile. She turned back with him, crunching away, Altair emphasizing he wasn't going to eat the things he got her, which she was fine, sometimes it was hard to share. "I'm not sharing these." she said, switching the bag to the other arm so it was a little bit further from his reach if he tried. Then she frowned in her own thoughts, trying to think if there were any other snacks in her office, but grimaced when she knew she really didn't keep anything he would consider edible in her lab. "I'll have to get your some if you want any..." she said as he made a movie title suggestion.

"Dead Evil 4?" she questioned outload, almost a hint of nervousness to voice, "Like a scary movie?" she slowly started to fold over the lip of the chip bag, "Because scary movies don't bother me." she reassured him, "Why is it a 4? Are there three others?" she asked him thinking there probably was, but for Tiamat, she didn't often spend her time catching up on all the latest titles, maybe the occasional romcom and binging Lovers in Paradise, but this was not an area of strength for her.

"Have you seen the other three?" she asked him.

Altair rolled his eyes as he walked behind her, “Typical..nothing for me to eat,” He grumbled when they walked inside. He plopped down on the couch in her personal quarters and began to sort through the movies. When she asked if there were prior Dead Evil movies, the remote fell from his hand in a clatter, “Shut the fuck up,” He said with a gasp, his eyes widening, “You’ve never seen the Dead Evil movies? Fuck, Tia, you been livin’ under a rock?!”

He shook his head as if this was the most disgraceful thing he had ever heard, “Marathon time,” He declared as he flipped back to the first Dead Evil, the iconic movie that started it all. It was full of spooky, gore, terror, drama and everything in between. Altair got comfortable on the couch - minus snacks, of course - and hit play.

“'Are there three others'..” He grumbled as he repeated her question under his breath, “Girl you lost yo’ damn mind..”

Marathon Time?

Oh no...

She thought to herself as she realized she was the only one to blame for even asking if there were three other movies. However, she had never seen this much enthusiasm for such a show and so perhaps there was something to these movies that would be somewhat pleasant...maybe.

Grabbing her holopad she opened up a to-go menus, "Here, pick what you want. I'll get us some take-out." she offered knowing food was now necessary if they were going through several hours of horror movies. She probably shouldn't tell him about the hidden half-eaten bag of chips that were somewhere in the couch they sat on and begun to think how she could secretly sneak them out without him saying something. When he was done picking what he wanted, she would accept her holopad back to chose for herself. The woman made a mental note to maybe just have some food just in case...however, it seemed like a waste at times since no one ever dropped in for an impromptu hang out.

Though when the opening credits started she was intrigued, curious, and too entirely nervous to just enjoy the film, "This is bad...they're going to this cabin by themselves, don't they know what happens?!" she questioned out loud, knees pulled to her chin in case she needed to quickly avert her eyes from something terrible, "Shouldn't they watch horror films in their world?" Tia squeaked as she kept watching the movie, "And to not lock the doors when the sun goes down." she whispered forcefully, growing stiffer in her seat as she waited and watched as the plot moved forward.

Altair scrolled through a few menus before settling for some Nabooian takeout. It was a step up from the usual trashy fast food, and he ordered a few spicy dishes. He watched Tia as she tensed up and began to talk. His siblings were notorious for loudly talking during movies to the point where having subtitles on was a must. Altair blinked a few times at Tiamat before reaching over and putting on subtitles for this as well.

“I dunno, if it looked spooky like that outside, that cabin looks pretty legit,” Altair said with a shrug. He wasn’t bothered by movie talkers simply because of how he was raised. Having just one person in the room was a step up from his entire clan scattered on the floor and couch by him with everyone talking at once.

The tiefling remained seated on the opposite end of the couch. Normally he would make some slick moves about now and capitalize on the tense situation, but he had no desire to be thrown out a window. So he stayed right where he was and kicked his feet up on the table in front of him, placing an arm along the spine of the couch with his gaze fixed on the screen.

“That chick was the little girl in Star Troopers 4,” He pointed at a very ditzy looking woman with giant boobs that played a very geeky girl in the other movie. While Tia talked and panicked, Altair rattled off random trivia. It was clear the tiefling was a massive movie buff.

As Tiamat seemed more concerned for the plot and the outcomes of the fictional characters, Altair went on and on about the mechanics and the history of the actors and actresses in the movies. It was enough to draw her attention to him, eyebrow quirked more so impressed than annoyed that he knew so much about a movie she had never heard of before now. She was both horrified and intrigued, and there was a campiness to the movie that with Altair's commentary didn't make it as bad as she thought it would be. It didn't deter her from feeling nervous during the movie, especially so as the demon was awakened and now attacked the vacationers.

Having the subtitles on were helpful, but now she was finding herself reading along as Altair explained the actresses history. "I haven't seen that one either... or the three before it." she shook her head, "I stick with romantic dramas, or romcoms like Sleepless in Serenno and-" her eyes widened before she turned her head away from a particularly gory scene. Luckily the food arrived and Tiamat nearly threw herself over the back of the couch to get to the door quickly (praying hard that it wasn't the demon in disguise) and then return again with the bag of food. She sat in the middle of the couch, taking out each container quickly, before falling back into the couch, knees pulled up to her chin and her face contorting in disgust to the amount of blood the main character seemed to accumulate in a few short seconds. It seemed like that was how the rest of the movie went, until main character seemed to be able to get away or so she was lead to think as he was attacked again and the movie ended.

"WHAT?!" Tiamat suddenly sat up straight, seeming surprised and even shocked. She looked at Altair, eyes wide, and then back at the credits rolling on the holoscreen, "What! They can't do that!" she yelled and stood up, "There are three more! What happens to him? He can't die if there are three more!" she continued to yell in disbelief as she realized she was standing and then quickly sat down, shoveling some food into her mouth, "-eving me om a clipf -angler..." she grumbled with a mouth full of food, brow narrowed in annoyance.

Altair couldn’t tell which was more entertaining - the movie or Tiamat’s reaction to the movie. At one point he began to chuckle to himself in between eating his upgraded takeout, “Damn, Tia, you’re a wimp,” He said gleefully, “I had no idea,” Altair snickered to himself. He had to admit it - this was not where he thought the evening was going to go. He was having a great time and it was one of the few instances where he relaxed.

The tiefling was full on laughing when Tia sprang to her feet, and he had to bite down on his fist to control the chortling. As the credits rolled, Altair shrugged, “I guess we’ll have to see the other ones to find out, huh?” He said gleefully as he lined up the next movie.

“You see more violence in your daily life,” Altair said with a quirked brow, “How’s this movie got you all bent outta shape?” He eased back into the sofa, right where he was originally as the next movie started playing. To Tia’s great dismay, it began with a flashback scene and didn’t simply pick up where the last movie left off.

He was nearly a different guy now since he had arrived to apologize; despite Tia's dissatisfaction to being subjected to a marathon of horror movies, it was nice to feel not like a Sith and more like herself in his presence. "I am not a wimp!" she had mumbled to herself, pouting as she continued to shovel food before the gore and disaster returned to the holoscreen. Setting the food down, she called a blanket from a nearby chair and wrapped it around herself.

Altair wanted to know why she was struggling with the movie, he had a point, and Tia scoffed, "You don't get it, you see..." she pointed to the screen and paused seeing they were not going to pick up where the last movie left off. "Are you serious?!" the redhead hissed, "But what about the guy-ughh..." she then remembered what Altair had asked her about, "You, don't get it, these things can happen in real life, like Farm House of Old Gus, its real, it came out of no where, and you could go inside and there was a ghost and something evil inside. And then, then the legend of the Captain named Tihsllub, ghost ships are real too. And..." she paused thinking about the Eternal, "And there are other things in this galaxy that are worth fearing." she whispered.

"There are real spooky things and I'm not wimpy- OH HE LIVES!" she seemed happy at least one person got away, but then it made it clear he was not unscathed.
