The Immortal Legions
Elite Warriors of the Ascendancy
The Immortal Legions are genetically-enhanced cyborg super-soldiers, the elite shock troopers and warriors of the Ascendancy. None compare to their prowess in battle, and if their fury is not so renowned as that of the Mando'ade or the Sith, that is because the Immortals are not so prone to leaving survivors.

The Immortals are the shock troopers for the Chiss Ascendancy, commonly found on battlefields across the galaxy where high priority targets are in need of elimination. The Chiss Immortals work in squads of four to increase efficiency and maximize mobility on the battlefield, all Immortals are trained to fight in all weather and atmospheric conditions and do so without flinching or showing hesitation.

After High Immortal Cordia Dawn was inducted into office she immediately noticed the vast amount of ranks for the rather small elite units of the Immortal Knights. After discussion with the Imperator the decision to rework the entire Order from the ground up was made. Among the first things to be changed was the ranking system as Cordia believed too many ranks would cause division and therefore the collapse of the Immortal Order. The new ranks that are implemented as of now are as follows.

Hierarchy
High ImmortalThe High Immortal is the highest-ranked member of the Immortal Legions. The only seat on the Council of Eminence commonly held by a non-Chiss, the High Immortal is valued not only for the elite shock troopers at his command but also for the outsider's perspective he brings the often isolationist Chiss. The High Immortal is responsible for the command, training, and deployment of the Immortal Legions, and as an extension of the Immortals' charge to protect the Ascendancy against outside threats is responsible for maintaining and conducting joint operations with the New Sith Imperium. The current High Immortal is Cordia Dawn, of the Arch family.
Roncimrcr (Undermaster)The Roncimrcr position in side of the Chiss Immortal Order is not given lightly; there are only two Roncimrcr inside the Order at any given time. These Immortals act not only as teachers and as elite squad leaders but as a support system for the High Immortal and a council for her to refer to before making decisions. This being stated these two Immortals are considered to be the strongest and most honorable out of the entire Chiss Immortal Order.
Crahsystor (Commander)The Crahsystor position inside the Immortal Order is considered to be one of the most senior positions. A Crahsystor is an experienced Immortal on the battlefield and is often over command during in field operations depending on the level of seniority an individual Crahsystor possesses.Third Sigil: The highest level of seniority a Commander can obtain, at this rank anything this Crahsystor says on the battlefield goes without question unless it expressly contradicts an order given by either the High Immortal or a Roncimrcr. These Commanders are usually found in charge of an entire operation on the field or a Chiss Immortal War Fleet.

Second Sigil: This Sigil shows a moderate level of experience in leading Immortals in warfare, these Crahsystor take orders directly from a Commander over field operations and feed it down to individual squads. These Commanders are usually found over individual theatres for an operation or an individual war vessel inside a fleet.

First Sigils: This is the first Sigil in the Crahsystor rank and shows a minimal level of experience in leading Immortals on the battlefield. These Commanders take orders directly from a Second Stripe Commander and direct their squads to a location or objective. These Crahsystors are usually found over multiple squads or a wing of Immortal Fighters.
Viziter (Knight)The Knight ranked Immortals make of for the back bone of the Immortal Order, these ranked Knights are often found in operations around the galaxy and are the extension of the Immortal Order and Chiss might. A Viziter is not considered a grunt but a valorous war hero by the public eye and depending on performance in the field can hold a minor leadership role.Ronu (Leader’s) Stripe: This Viziter has been noted for not only his or her wise leadership choices in battle but his or her valorous actions. It is because of this the individual Knight is given leadership inside of his or her squad and takes orders directly from the First Sigil Crahsystor. These Viziter are usually found over individual squads or as a squadron leader of Immortal fighters.
Visnah (Recruit)All Immortals at this rank are not considered combat ready and therefore are not yet given their Augmentations yet. At this stage the Visnah are forced to undergo grueling physical trainings, mind numbing classes on battlefield tactics, and hazardous squad based survival trainings. Once training is completed a Visnah is given promotion to Viziter and can begin to seek glory on the battlefield.

Creed of the Immortal
Death approaches. I will not fear it, for death is my brother and my mother, my father and my sister.
I am the guardian against the night.
I am the watchman on the frontier.
I am the fire that guards against the dark and the cold.
I am the light that guides the lost to home.
I am the call that warns of the enemy's approach.
I am the shield that wards the galaxy entire.
I pledge my life and my honor to the Immortal Legions and the Chiss Ascendancy.
I will not know fear, for I am death.

Augmentations
The most famous augmentation that the Immortals undergo is the Phoenix Virus, which transforms Human, Chiss, and near-Human Immortals into super-soldiers. Non-Human Immortals are excused this requirement, as the virus is fatal to them, but they are not otherwise permitted leniency for their species. All Immortals must perform to the standards of the Legions.
Manufacturer: Chiss Ascendancy
Production Line: Immortal Project Phoenix
Model: Phoenix-Xaphan
Technical Designation: Phoenix-Xaphan 20-11B Type XIV
Affiliation: Chiss Ascendancy Immortals
Availability: Limited
Modularity: Some; the virus itself has little variation outside of experimental strains.
Composition: Synthetic proteins
Ownership: Members of the Immortals
Description: The virus induces a number of mutations, all culled from Human and near-Human genomes to achieve singular perfection of form. The beginnings of the Phoenix virus originated with the top-secret Chiss bio-weapons project 20-11B in 665 ABY. Rather than creating a disease, however, the project's aim was to engineer super-soldiers. The virus infiltrated the host's body and began altering his genetic code, at first using cells to reproduce like any other disease but eventually switching over to simply alter the genome after reaching saturation. While the early stages of the virus were incredibly virulent, fatal to all non-Chiss and even most Chiss subjects, the modern form of it can be traced to a former Jedi Knight named Arasyx'apha'nuruodo, "Xaphan". The virus mutated after passing through his body, and it is believed that he consciously altered it through the Force. However he did it, Xaphan's body transformed the virus into something significantly more benign. Chiss scientists continue to cultivate the Xaphan strain of the Phoenix Virus to this day, though they continually seek to develop new, more efficient and effective strains.

  • Improved Vision: The Immortal's vision improves to at least 15/20, able to see extremely sharply both near and far. His rods and cones multiply and diversify, enabling him to pick up color with much more detail than ever before.
  • Low-Light Vision: While the Immortal's vision gets sharper, he also develops significantly improved night vision. While not quite so good as a night-vision optic or a truly nocturnal creature, the Immortal can see doubly or even triply as well in conditions of poor illumination as normal.
  • Improved Hearing: The Immortal's hearing improves dramatically, increasing in both range and sensitivity. An Immortal can hear an opponent's heartbeat from fifteen meters away.
  • Ultrastrong Bones: The Immortal's bones become nearly unbreakable through a combination of reinforced design, improved proteins, and induced growth of carbon nanotubes. This is necessary to support the musculature mutations.
  • Double-Jointed: All of the Immortal's joints become extraordinarily flexible, enabling them to perform unusual feats of contortion and gymnastics. In addition to the obvious benefit, this helps them with grappling. It also reduces the energy they expend with each movement, making them more efficient.
  • Ultrastrong Muscles: The Immortal's muscles and tendons grow significantly stronger than normally possible, with women experiencing greater improvement than men. The highest reported improvement was roughly triple the previous burst strength, with a commensurate increase in endurance and resilience. The Immortal's muscles also cease producing lactic acid when overworked, greatly reducing the effects of fatigue. The Immortal can run at full speed until his heart bursts without any problem - or even noticing that he is exceeding his limits. This is not magic; the Immortal still needs energy to keep going.
This mutation dramatically increases the Immortal's metabolic rate, doubling their caloric requirements.
  • Efficient Red Blood Cells: Necessary for the newly-enhanced muscles and to maintain their efficiency, the Immortal's body begins producing nearly triple the normal density of red blood cells and utilizes a more efficient protein than standard hemoglobin for carrying oxygen. This protein does not react to carbon monoxide, and resists many haemotoxins.
  • Enhanced Immune System: The Immortal's immune system becomes highly sensitive and reactive, able to adapt and overcome nearly any disease imaginable. They are also inoculated against a wide variety of diseases, including many that do not officially have vaccines.
  • Eidetic Memory: The last mutation to form, the Immortal's memory improves to develop perfect recall. Commonly called 'photographic memory', it turns every one of them into an excellent intelligence-collecting asset - provided they know what to look for.
  • Enhanced Intellect: While the Immortal's memory sharpens, so does his intellect. They experience an average improvement of thirty to fifty IQ points, with a recorded maximum of seventy-three IQ points. The dimmer subjects experience more improvement than do the brighter ones.
A side-affect of this is an increased propensity towards mental instability and insanity. All Immortals suffer from it to one degree or another, though most can handle it with routine counseling and hypnotherapy some require more extreme treatment, ranging from psychoactive drugs to hospitalization or even lobotomization.
  • Anti-Agathic Effects: The virus not only slows the Immortal's aging process, it even reverses it somewhat to restore some lost youth. The effect is to increase the Immortal's lifespan a theorized five-fold, provided accident or injury did not kill the Immortal first. The Immortal experiences prolonged youth, not beginning to truly age until the last thirty-fifty years or so.
Mortality Rate: 8-20%
Species Affected: All Humans, near-Humans, and Human-compatible alien species.
Vectors: Blood and spittle, though it's typically injected in a serum.
Symptoms: Delirium, muscle cramps, intense fever, sweating, temporary blindness, and intense hallucinations followed by extensive programmed mutations.
Incubation Period: 3-5 days
Progression Period: 3-4 weeks
Contagious Period: 6 months

  • Neural Interface: With this augmentation, the Immortal can remotely access computer systems in a hands-free mode, enabling him to undertake other actions simultaneously as he delegates tasks to autonomous programs. It vastly improves his ability to analyze data quickly, as well as improving his already-formidable intellect and his reasoning capabilities. Though the Immortals primarily use this for interfacing with their power armor, the implants are also necessary to interlink with the Immortals' battle droids.
  • Bacta-Processing Implant: This implant allows the Immortal to process bacta quickly. Provided the majority of the tissue remains and the damage to bone is not extensive, the implant enables the Immortal to heal critical injuries in seconds after he receives bacta treatment.
The following implants are common to all non-Human Immortals, as they replace much of the effects of the Phoenix Virus. However, many Phoenix-augmented Immortals also receive some or all of them - particularly the Immortal shock troopers.
  • Implant Communicator: The implant communicator is a marvel of modern electronics. It is a series of tiny receivers that are placed under the skin against the skull and next to the vocal cords. These transceivers pick up subvocalized words and transmit them via a built-in comlink.
The implant communicator has a very short range (1 km) and is particularly vulnerable to ion attacks. It is, however, an excellent way to send and receive clandestine messages. It is very difficult to notice someone using an implant communicator. A team of Immortals with such communicators once allowed themselves to be captured and taken to a POW camp, where they organized amongst themselves covertly to liberate themselves and over two thousand Chiss troops from their Alliance captors.
  • Hifold Sensory Package: Necessary for combatting Force-wielding opponents, the Immortal's senses are cybernetically enhanced. His sight, his hearing, even his senses of touch, taste, and smell are all dramatically improved while his resistance to damage increased dramatically as the package forces the Immortal's body to react much more logically to stressors. Coupled with the neural interface, this enables him enhanced reaction speeds similar to the famed Jedi reflexes.
  • Superstruct Skeletal Reinforcement: Using medical technology developed for sufferers of degenerative bone disorders, the Immortal's skeleton augmented with high-impact polymers, increasing his ability to shrug off physical damage. It reinforced his joints and the connections between his muscles and bones as well, enabling them to withstand the increased force of his cybernetically-enhanced musculature.
  • Cardio-Muscular Package: Nearly as pervasive as the skeletal reinforcement, the Cardio-Muscular Package enhances the Immortal's muscles with rybcoarse to triple his strength while also enabling him to move faster and withstand more physical damage.
  • Lornan Implant: This implant regulates electrical current within the recipient's body, protecting the Immortal from the deleterious effects of ionic and electrical attack.
  • Skill System: This ingenious device modifies brain chemistry to improve general problem-solving and data processing abilities. It also includes extensive data on a wide variety of tasks and actions, providing the recipient with additional experience without requiring the time investment to learn it himself. It is as much wetware as it is positronic processors, installed into the skull beneath the brain and wrapped around the cerebral cortex. It does not teach reflexes or muscle memory, but it does provide more intellectual and technical skills well enough for the recipient to become proficient, if not an expert, in them.
