DESCRIPTION
Build by the specialized small-craft shipworks of Drommund Kalakar, a gas giant near Drommund Kaas, the Impetus is the newest line of starfighters in use by the Sith Empire. Designed for swift response and rapid attack comparable to older TIE models, its design was drafted to serve a similar role without relying on throwing swarms of them at the enemy.Featuring a narrow and forward swooping profile that made head-on targeting more difficult, the pilot is also afforded both sensor readouts and a wide open and unobstructed view to the front, sides, and above even through the entry hatch. The cockpit is somewhat adjustable to accommodate different sizes, heights, and species as pilots, with windows made of reinforced transparisteel.
Armed with four light laser cannons, two on the forward wingtips and two on the sides of the craft, its well suited to its role of dogfighting enemy fighters or chasing down bombers and gunships. The side-most cannons are capable of fully rotating to fire on targets above, below, and behind. Although doing so takes practice, it's a skill worth learning for career Impetus pilots. Each wing also carries a launch tube of four concussion missiles often used in the opening salvo or while chasing targets.
Powered by a new kind of ion reactor, the vessel features a single glowing strip-thruster the rear when powered on. Rather than S-foils, a cooling system linked to radiators, located port and starboard of the cockpit, bled off excess heat from the engines and weapons systems. An inbuilt class 1 hyperdrive and navicomputer are standard for long-range patrols, hunter squadrons, or individual pilots. However, craft meant to be aboard carriers have a cheaper class 4 meant mainly for emergency usage. Both varieties have an astromech socket beneath the stern panel.
Their proprietary design, while making for excellent manufacture, also has the downside of making them impossible to significantly modify. Every spare space has been used.
The same panel also allows access to primary systems for simplified maintenance and repair. Much of the ship can be disassembled if necessary for transport or replacement parts. Entire wing section can be replaced with a trained crew in any equipped hangar.
Frequently utilized for patrols, system security, and fighter screening, the Impetus is rapidly replacing older mainstays like the TIE fighter in the Sith fleets.
LEGALITY
Restricted. As a starfighter, they are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities. Additionally, they're specific to the Sith Empire and draw attention for that alone.INTENT
