HoloNet TV networks would, one by one, tune in live to the image of Korre standing before a podium on Belasco. She was dressed neatly and stood with a sturdy expression on her features. It was not often that the Free Worlds Prime Minister made a statement, but she couldn’t ignore the events of the past few days.

Once she was given the green light to begin, the ginger-haired woman stepped forward and up to the mic.

“What happened on Kashyyyk is a tragedy. Millions upon millions of innocent Wookies lost their lives to Sith terrorism. More might have been lost if not for the brave efforts of those who came to their aid.

“One of those who came to aid were the ISCRA. They came, knowing they could potentially be put in harm’s way, to assist in the evacuation of civilians from the planet. They saved the lives of thousands, but instead of being welcomed with words of gratitude from nearby Free Worlds forces, they were met with sarcasm and hostility.

“The Senator of Kashyyyk’s hostility toward the ISCRA and Governor Ordalos will never be considered acceptable behavior for a representative of the Free Worlds. We are incredibly thankful for the selfless action of the ISCRA. I know that the thousands of lives they saved, too, are incredibly thankful. I am incredibly thankful.

“On behalf of the Belascan monarchy, we will be making a donation to the ISCRA so that they might continue to help those in need. To the senators and leaders of the Free Worlds listening, I urge you to consider doing the same. It should not—is not—indicative of our people to scorn those who assist us.”

Korre paused for a moment to gather her thoughts, as well as to allow her words to sink into listeners and viewers for a bit. She didn’t want this to get glossed over. Her senators knew she was displeased with the situation, but the galaxy needed to know as well. Their people would hold their senators responsible. The entire situation surrounding the ISCRA and Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl could have been avoided entirely if he’d just accepted the help, but that was not what he’d chosen to do. A lot of this could’ve been avoided if her senators didn’t harbor an irritating hatred for the government.

But, moving on.

“To the people of Kashyyyk: what happened to your planet was a tragedy. It was devastating. The Sith came to your world with only one goal in mind: terror.

“But you—citizens of Kashyyyk, and Wookies across the galaxy—you are not easily shaken. What is stronger than the might of your people? What is hardier than your resolve? What is more unshakable than your right to freedom? The Sith may have burned your world, but they will never burn away the values of your people.

“The Free Worlds will not abandon you. To those still on Kashyyyk, help is on the way. Take your time to grieve. Grieve for the lives lost. Grieve for your families, your neighbors, and your friends. Then straighten your backs, raise your heads, and remember the resolve of your people.

“The Sith makes inexcusable demands of us. They attack our worlds, kill our people, and then give us their demands. Citizens and leaders of the Free Worlds: Will we so easily surrender to the fear they wish to force down our throats? Will we allow them to demand of us who we should and shouldn’t allow within our borders? Will we give them an inch, so that they can take a mile?”

Korre paused. The pause only lasted a second or two before she continued.

“Citizens of Kashyyyk—citizens of the Free Worlds—those forced from their homeworlds, and anyone who has been scorned by Sith terrorism—we stand with you and for you. The Free Worlds will fight back—"

The Prime Minister's blue eyes shifted to make explicit eye contact with the camera.

"—and I invite you all to join us."

The office of the Senator of New Alderaan would also make a statement following Kashyyyk and in response to the Prime Minister's latest address "I echo Prime Minister Belasi. What happens to Kashyyyk is a tragedy and further proves what the Sith have in store for the rest of the galaxy. Tyranny and terror. New Alderaan President has decided to increase our military spending significantly. The Sith will never catch us flat-foooted.

The FWA does stand united against the Sith. As the free worlds defeated the Sith one-hundred years ago, history will repeat itself."

As for the wookies of Kashyyyk. "New Alderaan will also send ships to Kashyyyk as well as carrying aid & essentials. Wookies are also welcome to come to New Alderaan, we will accept all in need" New Alderaan was founded by refugees from the Empire one-hundred years ago, it is still home to refugees, and will always be.

Now to the topic of ISC "As for the ISC, I once again echo the Prime Minister's sentiments. The ISCRA aid should have been welcomed with open arms and the utmost of gratitude as they came as first responder with the best intentions, not treated with disrespect or contempt. Personally, I never saw a reason to dislike or distrust the ISC, but it's awful that within some of our number it's grown to toxic levels when they don't deserve the disrespect." Nicolas was really puzzled on why Senator Aezz or any other senator would dislike the ISC so much. He didn't.

"And lastly as a token of gratitude for the ISCRA I, and the President of New Alderaan too, will donate a large amount of credits to the ISCRA. I hope that our governments can mend the rift in releations between us."

That is all.

((Note for clarity: This post takes place in the hours following the Sith withdrawal from the planet))

Fur singed, posture slumped, and eyes red and puffy from both the smoke and from crying, Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl was finally persuaded to give a brief statement to the press. Instead of the usual formal halls or press conference rooms, which had been destroyed in the attack, this one took place outside under the stars nearby where the Senator had been helping serve soup to a long line of shellshocked Wookiees. A stump of a Wroshyr tree served as a podium, which the aged Wookiee sagged against. It was many moments before he spoke, and when he did his usual powerful voice was hoarse and scratchy. Each rattling breath he drew in he hoped would be his last, but death would not claim him today as it had so many others.

“Citizens of Kashyyyk” he began, pausing once again before continuing. “I grieve as you grieve. I mourn as you mourn. Each of your losses-” the Senator swallowed a sudden lump in his throat, and ran the back of his paw across his eyes; it came away wet “-I feel as my own. Please join me in observing a moment of silence for the victims of today’s attack.” It was the longest minute of Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's 421 years. Why had Jithrrruthrrreorrfyirph insisted on staying behind instead of joining him to inspect the Terentatek earlier that day? The Senator’s house had been among the first structures demolished by the attack, and a centuries-long marriage destroyed along with it. Now he faced a future even more dark and uncertain than ever before, without his faithful partner by his side.

“I know that it is difficult to find reasons for hope or gratitude right now, but there are many to whom we owe our thanks and appreciation that we were able to push back the Sith forces.”

“First, our armed forces; both our brave local fleet and those responding with military aid from around the Free World’s Alliance, without whom this day would’ve been much worse.”
The Senator felt bitterly vindicated in regard to his vote to mobilize the Free World’s Alliance, but it had been too little, too late for his people.

“Second, we owe many thanks to the ISCRA; and I must also give them and Governor Ordalos an apology for my inappropriate words.” Such an admission normally would’ve been like swallowing a Krayt dragon pearl, but now was not the time to stoke the flames of resentment that he felt towards Galek for the Governor’s decision to publicly humiliate him while the Sith attacked. “The ISCRA’s efforts, in conjunction with those of the GHO and our own local leaders, saved thousands of lives, and already we have begun welcoming back those who were evacuated.”

“Similarly, we should not overlook the efforts of the Jedi”
at this, the Senator raised a tired hand to quell the murmurs from those assembled, “such as Padawan Vanhoop, who worked diligently to heal and rescue our people.” A murmur of appreciation and acknowledgement sounded from the crowd; Clove’s public efforts had saved the Order much face on the planet, and she in particular stood as a shining example of the Order’s efforts to ease the suffering of the Wookiees. “For the Jedi who recklessly cost the lives of children, we harshly condemn their indefensible actions and look forward to justice being promptly served.”

“Citizens of the galaxy”
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl said, changing his focus, “Today, the Sith attacked our planet; an attack that I wish I could say was unprecedented. But time and time again the Sith have brought chaos, destruction, and death to planets of the Free World’s Alliance. And so I ask; how many more times must this cycle repeat itself?” The Wookiee shook his head in sorrow, ruing the events of the day, even as he made an emotional plea that he predicted would fall upon deaf ears.

“Do not distract yourself from the suffering of my people by focusing on my sarcastic words or the Jedi’s scandal instead of the genocide that was committed today by the Sith.” It was an absolute mockery that the Holonet had so quickly run those stories, to the point that they overshadowed the full horror of the Sith’s assault. “In the wake of today’s attack I have heard several messages declaring support for Kashyyyk, but nothing that would help prevent such an event from occurring again; just declarations and decisions that only ensure that the next time this happens, it will be worse.”

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl finally found the strength to make prolonged eye contact with the primary camera; the fire of resistance dimmed by the horrors of the day but not completely gone from his eyes.

“The entire galaxy must take meaningful steps in order to ensure that this does not happen again. My people, and all of those who have been murdered by the Sith in this war, deserve better than that.”
