DESCRIPTION
Not all starship upgrades are for the sake of dealing damage. Some people, like bounty hunters, Rangers, and even Jedi might be more inclined to combat hostile enemies with non-lethal weapon systems. As a result Ion cannon upgrades are available for purchase and installment in numerous licensed locations across the galaxy.The strength of the Ion cannon is deteremined by the laser cannon mounting it is replacing. Only a single canon will be put in place of a previous laser cannon even if that previous weapon system had multiple cannons like the popular quad laser cannon. This is because an Ion Cannon draws significant power compareed to ordinary laser cannons.
The reason why Ion Cannons are still not built in standard to numerous ships is because of the power draw. This is combated by lowering the strength of the Ion Cannon permenently by one degree. An Ion cannon replacing a heavy laser cannon will be medium and a medium laser cannon will end up being replaced with a light ion cannon.
Alternatively people have the option of circumventing this loss of stopping power. Whenever the Ion Cannon is used roll a D6. On a roll of 1 or 2 the Ion cannon malfunctions due to the jury rigged nature of its installment and will need to be repaired before it can be used again.
