DESCRIPTION
The Iota-class Attack Shuttle is a 28 meter long shuttle, with a clean white pyramid-like shape, two large wings off the side, one dorsal fin, and a secondary pyramid-like shape for the cockpit. It is armed with two fore medium laser cannons, two rear light laser cannon turrets, a chin mounted laser cannon, and a concussion missile launcher. The inside of the craft was decently spacious, with room for two squads of troops in the main body of the shuttle and four officers (or other important personel) sitting behind the crew in the cockpit. It also can hit top speeds of 62 MGLT, being somewhat sluggish in speed but well faster than most shuttles.This design was commissioned by the Imperial Navy near the end of the Galactic Civil War, as more and more Imperial shuttles were being stolen by the Rebellion. To counteract this, the Iota-class was designed with a higher emphasis on speed and the ability to deal with more numerous and heavier craft than the typical Lamda Shuttle. These were far more expensive than most of the other shuttles of the Empire, and even if they were any cheaper the production lines were not fully ready for production until a few months before the Battle of Endor.
Sienar-Cygnus began to produce these models for the newly formed Galactic Republic, which saw them as a moderate success but they still were expensive to construct so the older designs were still favored. This meant that many of the build vessels were simply sitting in deep storage, waiting for a buyer. This resulted in the models being sold to self defence fleets, premium mercenary companies, and some managed to have slipped into less savory hands. As time has gone on these ships have been slightly more common than one would expect with their prices, but they still are pretty uncommon.
An interesting note about the wings, they are actually two pieces that fold up. The first, upper wing part bends like the normal Imperial shuttle style but the lower wing part bends down to conserve even more space. This allows it to fit within smaller spaces than most Sienar-Cygnus shuttles cannot.
LEGALITY
Restricted. The Iota-class Attack Shuttle are rather heavily armed Attack shuttles, and are still military equipment. This obviously means any civilian operators will require extra licensing to operate one legally.INTENT
