DESCRIPTION
The IPV-1 system patrol craft is a model of corvette manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems. Originally ordered by the Galactic Republic to equip local Republic Judiciary forces stationed in specific systems, the IPV-1 wound up seeing much broader use by the Imperial Office of Customs under the First Galactic Empire. Although not as versatile as some other ships used by the service, such as the Bident-class corvette, the IPV-1 was one of the most broadly visible symbols of Imperial power after the TIE fighter, with every Imperial garrison over 200 personnel being in theory equipped with at least 2 of these craft.

The IPV-1 is 120 meters in length, classing it roughly as a light corvette by the definitions of the Anaxes War College System. Unlike most corvettes, however, the IPV-1 is not equipped for interstellar travel; the ship carries no hyperdrive, being intended for local duty only in the system to which it has been assigned. Lacking a hyperdrive, the IPV-1 does have a slight edge in sublight speed and firepower; 3 dual light turbolasers mounted in forward-traversing casemates provide offensive firepower, along with a single proton torpedo launcher and a ventral ion cannon turret. It also has a top speed of 80 MGLT, impressive for a capital ship, which allows it to run down fleeing pirates and smugglers for boarding or destruction.

Due its lack of a hyperdrive, the Galactic Empire saw no possibility for the IPV-1 to be turned against it, and so the ship was widely distributed even to only marginally loyal systems throughout Imperial space. On any world with at least a moderate amount of space traffic, a squadron of IPV-1s was almost guaranteed to be present, even if no other Imperial presence was in evidence. Aside from being fast, effective patrol craft, they were exceptionally easy to crew and maintain, making them extremely well liked by the Empire, and by the various systems governments who took them over after the Empire's fall. Additionally, criminals who manage to get hold of IPV-1s often modify them with hyperdrives, making them into exceptionally potent commerce raiders.

In the present day, IPV-1s are still quite common, and are a bane to smugglers and pirates throughout the Galaxy.

LEGALITY
Restricted. IPV-1 system patrol craft are classified as small capital ships under Galactic law. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Bident-class corvettes are capital ships, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. These vessels may be used as faction assets, or can be operated by a group of at least 3 player characters who work together regularly.
