Is the true art of Lightsaber combat now dead?

Something my friend posted, but since Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker died, then the real form of Lightsaber combat has officially died, giving that as far as we now know, in the Sequel Era, there are no more living masters from the Clone Wars era, and everyone since Luke and beyond has been self taught and new styles being invented.

Is it? I'm not an expert of any martial art, but any art used in real combat has to be able to adapt with the technology, tactics, and strategy of the time that it is being used in. In essence, it's an evolving art. The saber forms that Luke and the succeeding generations practice may not be the same as what was used in the time of the Old Republic, but the forms still have to be useful arts if they have any chance of being taught to students.

For example, our soldiers today need to have certain skills to be successful on the battlefield, but their skills are not the same skills that soldiers from the last century would need. Are the soldiers of the older times using a "truer" art of combat?

True, and since "The Force Awakens" basically proved you don't need actual training to use a lightsaber, apparently anyone can.

But if we're just going by the new canon, and not Old Republic, then by the time Vader and Palpatine died, there was virtually no one else alive at the time who has lightsaber training from the time of the Clone Wars era. I mean, there is always a chance that some characters from "Rebels" or other survivors are alive, since they have not officially been killed or died, even at the time of the First Order and The Resistance. Meaning unless there was something, or someone that had the training regime of Lightsaber combat back then, everything Luke has taught Kylo, and in terms soon, Rey, is all new.

What about Luke? He was trained under Obi Wan and Yoda, albeit briefly. And what about Holocrons?

It wasn't just in Force Awakens. Cad Bane could do it too in The Clone Wars. Pre Vizsla could wield it just fine without the force.

Excluding Luke, the only saber wielders seem to be Rey and Kylo Ren (and whatever characters from Rebels who survive) who seem to be novices in lightsaber combat (or Kylo was too wounded). We all know Rey's case. And Snoke said that Kylo's training wasn't complete in the movie. So, looks like the two may be on their way to becoming much more proficient at lightsaber combat. Just seems to be a lost art at the moment but will get a resurgence.

As far as we know, Luke's only lightsaber training with Obi-Wan was on the Falcon, and recieved none from Yoda.

I have a very good feeling Kylo's only real training with a lightsaber was from Luke, but probably never really face a real challenging opponent until Rey. He probably killed the other Jedi trainies something akin to ambushing or crafty rather then fighting them head on. I believe he had more training then Rey in Lightsabers, but he was still wounded badly by Chewbacca's bowcaster that somehow didn't blow him in half.
