JEDI GUARDIANS

THE SITH have returned. They made their presence known by attacking a prison on Coruscant, in the heart of the galaxy. They hunt down and kill JEDI KNIGHTS. Their intent is clear: to destroy the JEDI ORDER and sow chaos across the galaxy.

NYKORIA TALLIS is one of the many Jedi who recently encountered the Sith on a mission. But it's the news of the second attack on her homeworld of Coruscant that spurs her into action. Resolute to keep people safe from this menace, Nykoria calls for fellow members of the Order to take a more active stance.

The Sith blame the Jedi for meddling in galactic affairs; so the Jedi would do just that. They would forge closer ties with the governments of FREE WORLDS once again. They would put their skills to protect the weak. They would fight crime and Sith influence everywhere they find it.

They would become the new JEDI GUARDIANS...

In a nutshell, we're facing a KotOR-like situation. There is a clear threat to peace and order in the galaxy. The Jedi seem a bit slow to respond so far. I figure some Jedi would encourage others to take action. It makes sense for @Nykoria Tallis to be such an individual. She saw what Sith rage could look like, and she is from Coruscant, which gets a lot of Sith attention. Kori's pre-Jedi-Order training in law enforcement also plays a part.

These "more pro-active" Jedi would refer to themselves as Jedi Guardians. Their primary goal would be to protect the galaxy from the Sith. But since they can't just act as unsanctioned vigilantes, they'd have to make connections with planetary governments. Establish Jedi presence on various planets; gain trust by fighting crime; expand the Jedi Order more aggressively. I feel that day-to-day contact with the grim realities of the galaxy could open up avenues for a "less flawless and incorruptible" branch of the Jedi Order.

I picked the name for a couple of reasons. Partly, because I think it fits the current situations. And secondly, because I wanted to reference an old Legends sub-class of Jedi. Since combating the Sith is one of the main goals, it makes sense that many Jedi who had dedicated themselves to lightsaber training could relate to the concept of "Jedi Guardians".

Would definitely love to jump on this with Weiss Zano especially like the part about a"less flawless and incorruptible" branch of the Jedi Order.

I dig it. Hannibal has his own side project in the Shadows (and would be leery about Jedi acting as law enforcement either way), but it seems like a good bit of organization and storytelling for Jedi stuff to happen. A+

I think it is a good idea for storytelling in the faction and I'm potentially interested.

I'm humbled by the quick and positive reception so far. The current plan is to see what the upcoming event is about, and probably take part in it. Since it seems to be big, it might affect the start of this whole thing.

Actually, it's great to have the Jedi opposed to the idea/cautious about it. Conflict is good for almost any story ;)
In hindsight, I would've added a voting option "I like it, but my character would be opposed to it."

While we're waiting for the event, I've decided to do some groundwork and outline the nearest potential threads.
That way, everyone interested in getting involved can pick a side and see what sort of things will be happening.
The threads themselves will start after the mysterious event.

The first thread of the story arc is up. And it's open for everyone interested.

Tagging everyone who has expressed interest so far, one way or the other. I hope I haven't missed anyone.

The thread is going on so well that I'll have to split my post in 2. Here's a summary of what has happened so far, from Kori's angle: https://www.thestarwarsrp.com/index.php?threads/when-duty-calls.95603/post-1555506. Hopefully, that'll help those who might join after my next post.

P.S. There's still a way to join for those who're late to the party, by the way. I've written it so that some of the Jedi in the meeting had remained silent.

Status update:

  • It looks like we have enough Jedi to get things started. The first thread is coming to an end. That's good.

  • The voting for our very own Normandy / Ebon Hawk is up. Decide which ship you'd rather have as our initial base of operations. Personally, I like the Comet yacht and some of the better-equipped corvettes, but...

  • It turns out that the Order currently lacks a ship big enough to house all the interested Jedi. So, unless we want to use Eisa's Rim Hopper, we'll need to get ourselves a ship and a crew. Luckily, Kori knows a CFO of a ship-building company from Fondor, who might be able to help (after having the Jedi do some dirty work, admittedly).

  • We need 3 things: the ship, the crew, and the supplies. It might be a good idea to check your old threads, and see if you have earned any favors with anyone to cover one of the above. Especially if we're going for a large ship like a corvette.

@Reyn, @Charndley, @Six, @Mr. Teatime, @Ginger, @Darth Bonaparte, @Topher Ridge, @Topher, @Nightfall
(Tagging only those who sided with Kori or at least weren't opposed to her plans. Sorry if I missed anyone.)

One of Fiach’s IC questions was also my OOC question – who decides?

Who decides if the Order’s Council approves or disapproves? Is it an IC or OOC vote? Fiach for one would not go against the Council’s directive. And if she really disagreed with the Council’s views, she would probably leave the Order (not specifically on this matter, but generally).

:)

@Corbeau, sorry if I missed some of Fiach's (and your) questions. But this is where things get a little complicated.

  • The Council members are played by the staff. Me and @Mr. Teatime talked about it in the #jedi-order channel on Discord, and I figured it wasn't worth bothering the staff, unless absolutely necessary. Especially since the Council's decision ultimately won't affect Kori's (and not only her) plans on pursuing the Sith. She was ready to pull a Revan in the worst case. ;-)

  • So, the only thing the thread would be about is Council's blessing. I'm not sure whether it's something worth bothering the staff over. Especially since @Nefieslab did something along those lines, but against the Zygerrians. If I recall correctly, we're headed towards more player-driven things with staff oversight.

  • As for Fiach's concerns... Luckily, @TWD26's @Oren Zapan is on the Council. So I figured we (or rather, Fiach) could ask for his thoughts on the matter. Meanwhile, Kori just quickly went to carrying out her plan. Having everything prepared would probably go a long way to securing the Council's permission (whether or not it needs to be roleplayed).

  • Despite what I said above, I'd be totally up for a thread with the Council, if it was deemed necessary. It'd definitely be fitting. In fact, many threads of the story arc are going to be open for someone else's intervention. That is, if the staff decided that the Council would be against Kori's plan, they can interfere at any time too. They'd definitely know about it at this point.

I hope that answers the OOC part of it somewhat.

@TWD26, long story short: a Jedi wants to go after the Sith and tries to gather support. Fiach Dubh has some concerns and unanswered questions. One of those questions involves what the members of the Jedi Council think on the matter.

As for myself, I'm just curious whether what we're doing her would be against the Council's position or not. But it wouldn't affect what my character does. That's why I didn't bother the staff with it (since they play most of the Council members). But for @Corbeau's character, the Council's position is an important factor in making the decision. And @Oren Zapan is a Council member, so your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Sure thing! That, or we could create our own thread (that way you wouldn't have to go through all the chatter). As it stands, @Maxims Tionson is against the whole thing, @Hannibal Grayza is for it (with some reservations), and that leaves Oren and Council NPCs among the highest-ranking Jedi who haven't expressed their opinions yet.

If you'd like, could set up the thread where @Nykoria Tallis approaches @Oren Zapan about it (as the first person she'd go to on the Council). We can even make it an Open, so that your Padawans could join (they have different opinions on that whole thing).

I'm fine with either option, so let me know which you prefer.
