Jedi ship rule

Last new proposal for a bit, I know i'm being a bit overboard with it, but meh. Progress is only obtained through activity, I suppose.

Jedi-issued starfighter rule. Considering the discussion about credits and Jedi we had earlier this week, I'm beginning to wonder why that shouldn't carry over to starfighters. I mean, as stated, the Republic funded the Jedi a lot during the Clone Wars, but in this era we'ra fairly on our own, and tied more loosely together. So, why should all Jedi have standard-issue fighters? Sure, if a Jedi wanted to use an in-house starfighter we'd have them, but we should also accomodate for our own craft, methinks.

You would have to wait until a credit system is set up. Rather than just giving Jedi their own ships, I'd like to see them (and anyone else for that matter who is not a faction leader) earn a ship by amassing enough credits.

It doesn't make any sense why Jedi can't own things. Luke owned things, General Hoth's incredibly gay and self-absorbed friend owned things. Where did we even get the whole "vow of poverty" thing?

That italicized cleary implied sarcasm. Comparing the Jedi of this period to the Jedi of Luke's period is comparing apples and oranges.

But I was being sarcastic too......
Basically, I was implying that the way we have our Jedi, we're really not much like the 'real' KotOR era Jedi Order. We're just as much like them, as the Jedi after Luke are.

But still, can you show me proof of this "vow of poverty"?

Yes, I can. Keep in mind that "vow of poverty" is just a term I use to sum it up. All of this is from Wookieepedia article for the Jedi Code:

Jedi were forbidden from keeping more than a few essential belongings. There were two reasons for this; first because they distracted a Jedi from the Force, and second because, as they emerged through the ranks, Jedi were required to leave for missions with extremely short notice, and so having many objects was a burden. It was rare for a Jedi to possess more than they could carry on their person at one time.

The important stuff is in bold. The source for both of these is the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook, which is the source book for Star Wars RPing published in 2002.

The second contradicts itself. It says that it was forbidden to have more than a few essential items, then goes on to say that it was only rare that one possessed more.

In the end, it really depends on the Jedi at the time, and probably what each Jedi believed in individually. Gui-Gon believed in something radically different than the common Jedi, and yet he remained within the Order. The Potentium was a common belief until outlawed later, and then reborn again.

For the sake of our own RP, I think it's safe to say that it's not a good idea to go by a single source book as law, especially if we're going to now pick and choose, what we're going to follow. No matter what you may think about the Jedi, you must know that ours are dramatically different.

That's not a contradiction. Love was forbidden by the Jedi Order, but on rare occasions it happened.

For the sake of our own RP, I think it's safe to say that it's not a good idea to go by a single source book as law, especially if we're going to now pick and choose, what we're going to follow. No matter what you may think about the Jedi, you must know that ours are dramatically different.

I still believe that it totally contradicts Jedi philosophy of possession and attachment, but I'm not the Jedi Council so in the end it's up to you guys.
