Interest Check Jedi vs Sith Proxies: The Temple of Ontotho

It all started with a single thread to have some fun and get a feel for the character:

A derelict temple (which may or may not be this one from canon) was rediscovered by the locals on the planet of Ontotho. People went missing, Jedi came to the rescue. Unfortunately, they had to fall back after dealing with the Temple's initial defenses. The missing villagers (or their bodies) weren't recovered. Perhaps another expedition is in order, if only to give their relatives some closure.

The last sentence was where the thread could grow into a plot, or a series of plots. The first Jedi team (@Catbert, @Charndley, @Lavi) can't continue the mission right away due to injuries. If the Jedi want to finish it, another crew is needed. Not to mention that a Sith (@The Captain) is lurking in the temple now, eager to learn its secrets.

From there, things could get as big (or as small) as they need be.

  • The ultimate goal of the Jedi could be to gain foothold on Ontotho. Maybe secure permission from the planetary government and local Fylari to set up an outpost in or near the temple.

  • The Sith would want to take over the temple as well. This could be done by stirring up civil war between Fylari and the government (so that the Jedi would withdraw or get too busy with that), or by showing the Jedi in the bad light, so that they'd be shown the door.

That is, if both sides are interested in the Temple. And if taking over it for one side or the other would even be allowed; I have next to 0 experience in Big Plots™ and how long it'd take. It's probably more complicated than I think.

Ideally, it would be a proxy conflict between the Jedi and the forces spurred into action by the Sith. That would give room for other kinds of activities (diplomacy, moving supplies, helping the locals) and make it more believable than a lightsaber battle on the Temple's stairs.

P.S. And the lower the risk of character death, the better. @Nykoria Tallis has done so little yet, that losing her early wouldn't be worth it. I definitely wouldn't want to involve her in death-enabled threads just yet. But I guess it depends on how you approach your characters; maybe some other people are more inclined to getting involved in such matters than I am.

Either way, I'm just pitching an idea for now. It doesn't have to be me who sets up a plot (although I may do it and make a writeup of the Temple, if there's interest among the Jedi). @The Captain was also interested, I think (but on behalf of the Sith). Maybe it won't even grow beyond this single encounter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This sounds great, I would like to join but as I mentioned before I’m involved other roleplays at the moment.

So I will get back with you on it

I'd be up for involving my Padawan in this.

Then we might need to rally a few more Sith. There are at least two Jedi and a droid on the other side.

Perhaps it's best to take things step-by-step and see where it leads us. Just like with the original thread, we can make the second one work even without a plot. It could be included into a plot retroactively, if we manage to make a compelling story. The next thread by the Jedi could be as follows:

Unfortunate Duty (death-disabled)
The Jedi have reported what transpired at the derelict temple. The automatons were destroyed, but the missing villagers (or their bodies) haven't been recovered. A few days after the incident, the Jedi return to make sure that the temple is safe, and to recover the bodies. Unbeknownst to them, a few Sith have already made their way to the temple as well, seeking to unravel its mysteries.

The number of people involved is rather big, so I can see it going 2 ways:
  • A. Separate threads. The Sith get to visit the temple first, seeing how the Jedi are licking their wounds and waiting for reinforcements. In that case, the Jedi thread would involve dealing with the aftermath of any Sith tampering. This option is good, because that way threads can progress faster, and there won't be as many people in each thread.

  • B. Joint thread. That assumes that the Sith stick around and explore the temple for a few days (or gather forces before the expedition). This option is good for a more engaging story.

I vote for the joint thread (or we could do joint threads to show different groups in different areas of the temple) option.

I like The Captains suggestion, could make it interesting having a bit of cause and effect mechanic in play. every time the sith opens a door it shuts the door in the chamber that the Jedi are in and vice versa LOL

But sillyness aside, it looks like its gonna be alot of fun !

That's a lot of bodies, we could split this into two threads and make it 2v1 and 2v2.

Plus, we need to workout posting orders.

We could always split it up when we encounter the other side? Use this one as the establishing thread, noting the jedi are splitting up we can do the same like how that sith gauntlet event worked all in one and whittled down to individual clusters?

I don't mind bowing out for this one to keep things moving at a pace. My character was smacked around pretty hard, she'd take a good while to recover.
