- Jedust
.
.

Jedust is a hallucinogenic and performance-enhancing drug that was invented between 19 BBY and 2 ABY by an Imperial Senator named Zanric Clonathan. It has been marketed to the upper-crust of the wealthy elite as a rare and high-class narcotic, due in no small part to the expensive nature of it's creation and the fact that it is composed of one of the rarer materials in the Galaxy: Kyber Crystals.

EFFECTS

Jedust, per the name, is a powdered drug. It can be inhaled through the mouth or nostrils or be mixed into food and/or drinks, the effect remains largely the same, simply through different means of reaching the bloodstream.

When taken, the connection to the Force that the Kyber dust still possesses is passed temporarily to the user. This often manifests in the form of the senses becoming heightened; colors will become more vivid, sounds crisper and sharper, your skin becomes more sensitive to stimuli to the point that even a simple gust of wind can be felt even through multiple layers of clothing. In some users, the senses can even become confused, unable to handle or adequately communicate stimuli with the brain, leading to cases of synesthesia. It has often been compared to a form of hyper-awareness, similar to the state of connection that a Jedi feels when they are open to the force, though it must be stressed that a user does not become Force Sensitive - it merely allows them to feel the Force around them to a greater degree than before. The duration of the effects tend to vary, though a single dose (e.g. a single snort into the lungs or a teaspoon in your drink) generally lasts around 6 hours.

Due to the intense effects Jedust generates, it has become highly addictive among those who partake and those going through withdrawal (which often takes weeks) have describes the symptoms as feeling akin to drowning or being smothered, where the world around them, once vibrant and teeming with life, now feels dull and washed out. Due to it's prolific use by some of the Elite, it is speculated to have originated several bounties on Force Sensitive individuals, the end goal being acquiring the Kyber Crystals in their lightsaber. The withdrawal has been colloquially named "Kyber-psychosis" - especially apt given it's effect on Force Sensitive beings,

While Jedust results in an intense high for non-FS beings, it has a drastically different effect on those who are Force Sensitive - particularly Jedi. Inhalation or ingestion of Jedust by Force Sensitive people suffer from vivid and often grotesque audio-visual hallucinations based around their worst memories and fears. In several cases, Force Sensitives have reported hearing a 'chorus of broken screaming' and 'feeling every piece of pain they have ever caused or felt' reflected back upon them a thousand-fold. While not 100% fatal, 1 in 20 Force Sensitives succumb to the effects of the drug and die due to heart attacks or suicide. Scholars speculate that, due to the semi-sentient state of Kyber Crystals, the more adverse effects are a punishment of sorts by the former Crystal for torturing it in such a manner.

Unlike Non-Force Sensitives, Force Sensitive beings do not experiences any of the high that comes from the Jedust and, subsequently, cannot become addicted to it.

USE

Jedust has most commonly seen use by the wealthiest beings in the Galaxy as a recreational drug due to it's method of creation and rarity making it only affordable to those with a small planet's worth of credits for a single dose. It is sometimes used as an unofficial status symbol, with quantity often denoting wealth and power in comparison to those without, as well as a symbol of their supposed superiority over those whom tout physical power or enlightenment over monetary power and influence, like the Sith or the Jedi. Athletes and Mercenaries have also occasionally been supplied doses of Jedust from wealthy patrons out of a belief that it can enhance your physical abilities, but that claim is completely unsubstantiated.

Some studies have hypothesized that the relatively benign nature of the drug would mark it as an excellent anti-depressant, were it not for it's rarity and the ethical concerns regarding it's nature as a pseudo-sentient life-form. The criminal element, particularly those affiliated with the Five Syndicates, have also been rumored to use Jedust as a form of torture or execution on Force Sensitives who interfere in their operations. The Jedi Order have been known to publicly denounce the use of Jedust and confiscate any that it found, though what use they have for it is unknown.

CREATION

The process of creating Jedust is long and costly, but ultimately just as capable replenishing profit as it is draining it.

Due to findings supposedly obtained from the Jedi Temple by looters and slicers in the weeks after it's seizure by the 501st Legion of the GAR, it is known that Kyber Crystals are almost impervious to heat and pressure, making them almost indestructible. However, it is possible to manipulate Kyber Crystals, as proven by the research of the Jedi and Galen Erso, this formed the baseline of the first process to create Jedust.

First, a large Kyber Crystal must be obtained, optimally around 6 feet in height, 3 feet in diameter. Using Galen Erso's research, the Crystal will be forcibly realigned along the night-time axis of the Force to produce a near-immeasurable yield of energy, which is then funneled into a specialized molecular destabilizer. The destabilizer will weaken and deteriorate the 'lattice' structure of the Kyber Crystal, heavily weakening it's structural integrity and allowing it to be ground into dust via an industrial-strength press over the course of several hours. When the process is complete, the remaining energy must be safely siphoned from the large Kyber Crystal and redistributed elsewhere, lest you risk the destructive release of that remaining energy.

When the process is finished, if done correctly, the Kyber Crystal will now be little more than a pile of dull sand-colored dust, ready to be packed and sold.

INTENT

To create a new drug for general world-building and expand upon the nature of Kyber Crystals and what value they could potentially hold for non-FS people.

A 50/50 chance at death seems rather oppressive for something that could be blown in the face of any force user without much recourse. I think the lethality level for FS characters should be adjusted to be less extreme.

Maybe also drop the use of the word "midichlorian" if you could, especially in reference to "high midichlorian count." While they are technically canon, we try to shy away from things that reference them directly or base things off of their counts and such like that. We approach the force more mystically than scientifically, if that makes sense.

I've removed every mention of Midichlorians and changed the death rate to 1 in 20. I figured that, regardless of the death rate, a player could simply choose whether or not they survive, hence why it was so low - credible threat while not greatly impacting player freedom.
