JOLEE BINDO'S HOLOCRON

HISTORY
A holocron created by neither a Jedi of the Order nor a Sith is a rare holocron indeed. Such is the holocron that was created by the Gray Jedi, Jolee Bindo. The Order desired to knight Jolee, but Bindo found himself straying further and further away from the ideals held by the Jedi Council and the Jedi Order itself. Bindo left the order and exiled himself to the Kashyyyk. His own study and philosophy grew to a belief that while the Dark and Light Sides of the Force were very much real, they needed each other for balance. Therefore, in Bindee's mind, in order for a Jedi or Sith to be appropriately balanced, they too should have the ability to access both the dark and the light.

Jolee Bindo spent most of his life studying the Force and developing a more pragmatic mindset. Over time, Bindo learned how to access the Dark Side of the Force freely without succumbing to it's seductive nature. His natural inclination was to heal, and his path to becoming a Jedi Consular was clear until he left the Order. However, Bindo learned and practiced the Dark powers such as Force lightning with this newfound control over the Dark Side. And, he reasoned, if a Jedi could access the Dark at will and promptly put it back in its place, so too could the Sith access the Light and relinquish it when necessary.

Bindo taught Force users from both ends of the spectrums- those that gravitated more easily to the Light, and those who were easily seduced by the Dark. His philosophy and teaching proved to have promise. This philosophy did not come without risk, however. The Dark is seductive to the the Light Side user, and the Light is calming and tranquil to the Dark Side user. The Dark and Light do not like to share, and both try to pull upon the user out of balance. Bindo's skill was teaching his students to determine what balance that should be- how weighted to the Dark or the Light they may choose- and how to maintain that balance. Through his study and teaching, Bindo's ability within the Force became great. He created a holocron to share the secrets of how to maintain a selected balance...but with a catch.

THE HOLOCRON

At first glance, the holocron resembles that of a typical Jedi holocron, cubed in nature. However, if one looks more closely, the corners are snipped to create triangular shapes that are more akin to that of a Sith holocron. This was no accident. The architecture of the holocron is metaphorical to Bindo's philosophy of living in the Light Side of the Force, but visiting the Dark Side when the situation warrants.

Bindee's holocron includes several sections, or chapters as he calls them in the holocron itself. The purpose of the holocron is stated in the introductory speech given by Bindee himself. Study and application of teachings held within the holocron will allow the learner to be able to access both the Dark and the Light sides of the Force as necessary to achieve a selected balance between the Light and the Dark. Pragmatically, this means the learner would have access to tools employed by both the Jedi and the Sith. The holocron itself not only teaches the Light side how to access the Dark and the Dark the Light, but gives a foundational knowledge of powers specific to both the Light and the Dark.

The catch to this particular holocron is that it takes both a Light Side user and a Dark Side user to simultaneously open the holocron. It will not answer to one person, nor will it answer to a pair of Light Side users or two Dark Side users. It must be one of each. The two must control their desire and distrust of one another to work in tandem to open the holocron. Furthermore, the holocron binds the two to it. Once a user opens it with another, they cannot find a replacement partner. If one of them dies, the holocron will be closed to the remaining partner forever. If a pair manage to go through the entire holocron together, a Force Bond between them is almost certain.

CONTENT
Introduction- Bindee greets the two who have opened the holocron for the first time. He explains the purpose of the holocron and that the two must go through the holocron chronologically. They may access chapters already completed, but they may not skip chapters or information in the holocron.

The chapters of the holocron begin with Bindo's own philosophy on the Light and Dark sides of the Force. He details the strengths and weaknesses of each, and how each lacks balance. The next set of chapters begin to discuss the balance of the Force and that balance in oneself as a Force user can only be found if both the Light and the Dark are found and applied in the user. These chapters also discuss the process to determine the delicate balance the user wants to strike.

Multiple chapters are devoted to teaching Dark Side users how to access the Light Side and more chapters are devoted to teaching Light Side users how to feed their Dark Side power using their own emotions as well as the emotions of others.

The final chapters are devoted to teaching the rudimentary basics of Light Side abilities such as Force Heal, Plant Surge, and Battle meditation. But more importantly, it uses these Light Side abilities to provide practice for the Dark Side user to access the Light. These chapters also teach Light Side users the basics of Force Lightning and Force Choke. Again, the primary objective was not to teach Light Side users how to attack with Sith attacks, though that certainly is a byproduct. The principal reason is teach the user how to tap into the Dark Side of the Force to learn more abilities that may be useful in any given situation..

WAYFINDER
IqLOIhe.jpg
Bindo created a wayfinder for the Holocron as a failsafe in case one of the partners tried to leave with the holocron. One partner would take the holocron, the other, the wayfinder. In a sense, both partners would either have access to the holocron, or would be able to find it. The wayfinder was a large pearl corrupted to obsidian black. Unlike the holocron, the wayfinder would be bound to noone. However, it still took a Jedi and a Sith, or their equivalents, working together for the wayfinder to begin to glow red inside the obsidian orb.

INTENT
The primary intent is to create something neat and inventive for the black orb Isen picked up in the Galaxy in Crisis event in the underground tunnels of Nar Shaddaa. The mention of that orb by the DM can be found here. However, I think a wayfinder and holocron that would force a member of the Sith and a member of the Order to work together in a series of threads to find the actual holocron, open the holocron, and learn from it would create fascinating story arcs and relationships. In addition, a Sith with Light Side abilities and a Jedi with Dark Side abilities could create very interesting dynamics within their own orders and conflicts within themselves. It also brings a fairly well-known non-canon character of the Star Wars universe into our own lore.

So I'm not really sure about this one. It kind of goes directly against some of the tenants new canon and the site uses in regards to lightside/darkside, and "grey" force users.

I don't want to outright archive it, so if you have ideas on how you may want to retool it, let me know and I'll give you time to edit.

That was a concern, but with Talak sort of walking that line, I didn't know if there might be wiggle room so long as the scope of being "gray" or in the middle was extremely limited in scope to the one or two that had access to the Holocron.

If not, totally understandable.

I'm going to have to heartily disagree with you on this. A character attempting to overcome a history of dark side use from being raised in the Sith isn't really the same as using both light and dark powers at will. Not only does he actively avoid using DS powers, but those few times when Talak has "relapsed" into doing dark things it's quite literally nearly driven him insane. Additionally, because of his shaded history, he hasn't (so far as I recall) ever actually used an exclusively LS power

So I'm not sure you can really say that Talak is a grey (as in both Light and Dark wielding) Jedi
