Hello to all you lovely people!

I'd like to begin by stating that is isn't my first time Roleplaying, I've had experience on other, smaller scaled, Roleplay sites. However this will indeed be my first time joining one based around the Star Wars universe, so please bare with me. I wish I could say I'm more familiar with star wars than i am but sadly that wouldn't be true as my knowledge of the universe is limited. As of late I've done what I can to research and learn more about this expansive universe and I hope to learn even more about it as well as we Roleplay together with this upcoming new timeline. :)

I do have a few questions though... and don't worry I won't be asking when the new timeline while be ready, I'm sure you've been asked that a lot recently with its announcement. As for the questions I mentioned though, I'd link to know these few things.

How exactly does a forum like this work? I ask because the other Roleplay sites I've been on and used aren't all centralized around one main theme, instead a bunch of different rps that said Roleplay site hosts.

If I were to make a character aligned with a certain faction at the beginning of the timeline, would said character be able to change or drop out of that faction mid-way through? I know that may seem like a question that's obvious and easily answered for some, but my mind tends to over think things sometimes, so I just want to be absolutely sure about it.

P.S. I didn't expect my introduction here to run that long, So I do apologize for that. Also if you did decide to stick around and read all of that I award you this cookie. *Humbly gets down on one knee and presents you with a chocolate ship cookie*

Welcome!

Kind of a hard one to answer, I've been on a couple sites like that, but I'm not sure how to describe the difference so it makes sense. Essentially the entire forum is centered around setting. In that setting there are main factions, and there's usually a story or a war or something that's going on, but aside from that it's a big old sandbox. There's a whole host of independent factions and characters out there, and the sky is the limit in what you can roleplay really. You can get involved in the battles, and the internal matters of a faction as much (or as little) as you want to, and you can generally just go out and Roleplay whatever you want to roleplay within the confines of the site rules, and the setting. Fundamentally it isn't all that different from sites which have different RP's in the same structure. It's just all in the same setting, and instead of different RPs there are factions which focus on an area of the setting, such the Jedi faction, the Sith faction, and so on.

If I were to make a character aligned with a certain faction at the beginning of the timeline, would said character be able to change or drop out of that faction mid-way through? I know that may seem like a question that's obvious and easily answered for some, but my mind tends to over think things sometimes, so I just want to be absolutely sure about it..
You can do this without too much hassle, Jedi falling and becoming Sith and whatnot, happen all the time. But for the new timeline things will probably be stringent to make sure it isn't just on a whim as there's a big move towards making factions more unified. Keep in mind though that our new rules for characters mean that you can only be in 1 main faction at a time. You can have two characters in a main faction. So if you're say a member of the Jedi faction and you have two Jedi characters but one falls to the Dark Side or something, you'd have to archive your other Jedi character or have it become an independent character in order to join the Sith, or the falling character would have to be archived or become an Independent Dark Side practitioner instead.

Hope that helps!

Hey there, I am sure you will find the transition to the site very easy given your experience.

Your character can switch factions, but I wouldn't try and flip flop around often, but if the story supports a leaving a faction, go for for it.

I came into the site having only watched the movies and reading a couple books with only basic knowledge of all lore surrounding star wars, and can say from experience you will pick up what you need to know as you go along.

With the new Timeline about to start, this is a great time to be joining the site. Glad to have you here and feel free to ask any questions you may have!

@Galavant thank you very much for being the first to reply on the matter as well as for welcoming me. Between your reply and @Raydo 's I think I've got the just of what I was looking to find out. You two were indeed very helpful.

Raydo, I would also like to note that I wasn't wondering about the factions because I wanted to be able to jump in and out at will. Instead I was thinking it in terms of what you brought up; for story purposes. :)

[Edit] Also I'm sure I'll get the hang of operating this forum rather soon, I'm already finding my way around it nicely

Where else have you RP'd, if I can dare ask? I'm a former geopolitical roleplayer doing post-Nation States style RP (I say post- because we didn't base our stuff off NS anymore, and had evolved into something a lot more mature)

Lack of familiarity with Star Wars canon won't hurt you much - we make up most of the important stuff ourselves. Just be able to navigate wookieepedia and remember to click the legends tab on interesting articles. This forum works by creating characters using a template either found in the character profile section, or ripped off a quoted post of another persons character stuff and edited to fit your character. Once your character is created you typically join a main faction in a sign up thread. From there, you can organize RP's with other members of the faction or sign up for missions. You can also use the roleplay OOC board to post "interest checks" for certain storylines or arcs you have in mind. It's best if everyone gets something out of the story - no one wants to be someone elses sideshow bob. Yes, characters can leave factions whenever they want, they cannot be members of multiple factions simultaneously except with FL consent generally; and that's bound to be exceptionally rare in the next timeline.

Anyways, welcome to the site! Hope you have many adventures here and learn to love your time here!

Welcome! Google wookiepedia if you ever need to dig up info on SW canon/legends stuff. It will help immensely. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

I see what you did there @Saul. Let it be known that we don't condone such things around here. It's not that difficult to write your own CP >.>

Good to have you, @Konron!

Cheers!
