THE DEMON MOON
O-9 || Dxun
Flashes of disaster painted a horrific nightmare Leon couldn't escape. He saw a transport. Everything was normal, a group of Padawan learners were being sent... somewhere... he couldn't remember, fuck his head hurt. The smell of fire aroused an urgency in his unconsciousness. There was intense rumbling, screams, and fear. Lots of fear, then pain, and..., he swallowed, death. His eyes came open and he gasped for breath as if he'd been holding it. Everything hurt. Leon managed to roll over onto his stomach and push himself up. He managed to get to his feet, this was the last time he let anyone else fly him anywhere.

The Padawan rolled his shoulders experimentally and found that while a little sore nothing was broken. He quickly checked the rest of his body and aside from a couple of cuts and scrapes, he was alright. He checked his gear to see what was left. His gun was missing, but Lionheart was still strapped to his hip. He had a few nutrition capsules, his comlink, and his grappling hook. The rest of his gear was gone. He took a moment to look around the wreckage he was surrounded by. He was struggling not to let his emotions overtake him. He needed to be at peace if he wanted to get out of this alive.

That's when he remembered the younglings. Panic blossomed forth and he sank into the force reaching out and grasping for any hint of their location... or survival. There should have been a couple of Knights on this expedition as well...

"Please..." he whispered to The Force as he nearly reached his limit. Then he had it. It was faint, but there. A beacon in the dark. Leon was off. He needed to get to that signature before it flickered out. Hopefully, the healing he'd learned would be enough to help.

Had it been a dream? It felt like a dream. He was supposed to be studying, but he fell asleep. He always fell asleep, light speed was just so boring. Flashes of the dream continued. The ship suddenly and violently shacking, the smoke, the fires. Jedi Knight tossing him in a pod, Master Hux maybe ?.

Dante opened his eyes, the cold are kissing his exposed and slightly burned forearm. "Slag" he gasped, then coughed. The Padawan sat up, finding himself in some tall grass. The pod he we was supposed to have been inside, hanging several above him. Lodged in a giant tree.

As his wits came to him then. He checked his person first. Other than the burn, he had a few cuts and abrasions. Nothing broke. Yet. He checked his gear next. His utility belt was intact, even mostly in order. No weapons to speak of though, not even his training blade. "Slag." He coughed again.

Panic suddenly filled him. Izzy! "Iz...Izzy" he yelled in a horse tone. The little BD droid quickly appeared at the edge of the pod's opening. Clicking in droid speak. Dante gave a sigh of relief at the sight of the droid. "Good to see you, get down here. We need to find the others." He said, hoping there were others to find. The question suddenly reaching out with the force to feel for something, anything. What he felt, was panic. Fear.

Dante fell into the force, letting his emotions flow like ripples into the light. Hope, He was alive and with a friend. All be it a droid. There was hope.

The force was strong on this planet, that was about the only thing Leon was certain of as he sprinted toward the small rippling signature in the force. Everything was slowly coming back to him. He couldn’t remember the name of the planet they were on, but he knew it was dangerous. The fauna here were steeped in the force. He could feel critters and predators of all shapes and sizes watching or skittering away as he shot past. Then he felt something big.

Leon skittered to a stop in the loose topsoil of the jungle floor. He squeezed his eyes shut concentrating with all his might. On the ripples. There! His eyes snapped open and he took off at full tilt. He couldn’t tell what it was, but whatever he felt out there was moving right for the ripple in the force he was picking up and the hunger that emanated from it was blood-chilling.

The Padawan hurdled a downed tree. A couple of it’s branches were charred, he was close. Then suddenly, the surrounding jungle gave way to a gashed-out swath. Leon broke from the treeline and scanned the area. He didn’t have time to waste. He felt once more the ripple. He held his hand out like some kind of force-powered dousing rod and honed back in on the signature. He was close. This area didn’t appear to have anything worth scavenging, so Leon moved on.

He plunged once more into the dense jungle, the ripples elevating to waves as he neared. Unfortunately, that wave of insatiable hunger was bigger now too… a lot bigger. Leon burst out of the treeline, instinctively he pulled Lionheart from it’s sheath, weapon at the ready, but all he saw was one of the younglings and a BD unit.

Leon’s breath came fast as the rush of adrenaline embraced him like an old friend. The Force swirled around him like a breeze whipped into a flurry. Then a shadow flitted by overhead. Leon looked up and suddenly he remembered where they were. A Drexl the size of a starfighter swung into a dive and bellowed it’s furious hunger toward Leon and the youngling. Leon didn’t wait for it to land he shot off toward the youngling waving frantically toward the treeline just behind them screaming, “Go! GO! GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO!

As the little droid came back down to him, Dante once more let the force freely flow from him. It was alive on this planet in a way the young human had not experienced until now. It felt as if the entire world around him was vibrating with life. Like the low hum of the power generators on his home, the Tenloss Space Station. It was fascinating but confusing all at the same time. Making difficult for the Padawan to understand what the force was revealing to him.

He didn't need the force to hear something coming closer towards him from the trees however. It sounded like a baby rancor, but instead was just a pale skinned human. He shook his head, another person. Another Jedi. The face of the older teen looked familiar to him. The feeling made all the more odd as she force filled him with the sense of danger at nearly the same moment.

Both young men noticing the looming shadow over head. Dante didn't know what it was but it was the size of a ship and had a face only a Hutt could love. Filled with teeth and aiming right at him. The younger Jedi didn't need to be told, he was already turning.

Fear took hold before instinct or training. Force fueled adrenaline pouring into him like a waterfall into a caf cup. In the blink of an eye the boy was in the trees and still cutting a swath into the jungle. Until suddenly there was nothing below him and he was falling off a hill side toward a body of water, a big one he hoped.

"Oooooh.....SLLAAAAAAGGGG."

Baudelaire had never run so fast before in his life. The starfighter with a maw screeched as it closed in on him. The Padawan he’d spotted understood the assignment and took off clearing them a path. “Yes! Gogogogogogogog—WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Leon was falling. He toppled head over foot staring into the brush below, the slope had dropped dramatically, luckily it wasn’t a straight drop to their deaths unluckily this was going to hurt. The Padawan rolled, scrabbled, bounced, and finally slid to a stop at the bottom of the hill. “Ughhhh….” he groaned as he struggled to get to his knees.

The wind was knocked out of him and he was pretty sure his ribs were bruised, but he’d live. He pushed himself up completely, soreness already setting in from the fall looking around for the kid.

Hey, you alright?” If the little dude was hurt, Leon had a little experience with force healing, he couldn’t fix a broken bone, but he could probably help with a sprain.

On the bright side, they’d slipped the Drexl. Leon stretched attempting to work the stiffness out of his shoulder. He remembered a story about Duxn. It had something to do with a forge on the planet. Maybe that was a place to start. Anywhere powerful in the force would be a benefit.

Dante heard the older Padawan say something. However between the brush tearing around his head and the wind howling in his ears as he sped along he couldn't hear the warning. It was to late anyway. Before they knew it the two young men were rolling down the hill side.

A more experienced Jedi might have used the force to halt his wild descent into the unknown. Dante didn't. He didn't even think, really. Instead he braced himself as his back shoulder kiss the dirt first. Sending him twisting to the air only to land on his feet, tumble, and go sprawling again.

He finally hit a stump at the edge of a pond perhaps only feet from the other boy. A gash on his head just above the eye. More than a few scraps and ankles and knees screaming in pain. But he was alive. Dante took a breath then, a single tear filling his eye.

"Fuckkk" he coughed. Then felt around his body with the hand he wasn't laying on. His head was bleeding but nothing else seemed to be. His body was sore. Extremely so, but nothing seemed to be broken. He slowly sat up then, resting on the stump that had stopped him.

"I'm fine." He lied. Trying to seem more brave. "What happened, were are we?" His mind was still a little foggy, and the fall did little to aid him. He looked again at the other Padawan, "Lee...something, right? I think I remember you from the temple."

Leon spotted the gash on Dante’s head and winced. “Dude, that looks like it hurts, let’s stop that bleeding real quick.

The force was palpable on Dxun almost as dense as Ellora, Leon concentrated on the cut on Dante’s forehead and stretched his hand toward it. He could feel the force trickling from his fingertips as the skin on the younger man’s head began to knit together. Unfortunately, Leon wasn’t proficient enough to avoid leaving a scar, but at least it looked pretty badass.

There, now I won’t have to worry about you passing out from blood loss,” he said with a chuckle.

His use of the force was starting to tax his body. He could tell he was tired, but they needed to keep moving if they were gonna come out of this alive.

I hate to break this to you, but we’re on Dxun.” The planet’s nickname was “The Demon Moon” and considering they’d just narrowly escaped a flying monstrosity, he had to admit the name was apt.

It’s still a little fuzzy for me, honestly,” he started. Leon frowned crossing his arms and cupping his chin as he worked to remember, then it hit him, “The Lightsaber forge!

He whipped around looking at Dante with the first dregs of hope he’d felt since waking up in the wreckage of the ship, “If we can find the forge there’s a good chance we could reconnect with other survivors. Whaddya think?

It wasn’t much to go on, but the prospect of having to spend the night on Dxun barebones equipment was giving him PTSD from his adventure on Kashyyyk. A shiver went down his spine at the memory.

"Hmm?" He questioned the other Jedi's statement, not realizing his cut. "Slllaggg." He yelped. As Leon wasted no time in assisting the younger Padawan then. The pain was minor, it felt like a freshly activated med droid was fixing him. Brutish but effective. Still, it was better then nothing.

"My hero." Dante joked. Then, like any kid, touched the fresh scar with his dirty hand. "Nice." He stated, amused. He could have likely also done the very same. But the effort would have been enough to leave him floored for the rest of the day. The force fueled run followed by the fall had already taxed most of his energy.

As the other boy said the words, the memory suddenly grew int he forefront of Dante's mind. This trip was for his class to discover their first crystals, hopefully. If discovered, a Padawan would then built their first saber. Dante had been excited at the idea. Then. Now he simply wanted to make it out of this without becoming a meal for that winged beast.

The little BD droid leaped from Dante's belt then. Hopping atop the step that Dante had been stopped by and resting on. Izzy jumped around, making an add chirping sound. Then, suddenly projected a 3D map of the planet. Focusing first on an old temple to the north, presumably where the forge was located. Then zoomed out, and refocused at a location deep in the jungle. Miles from said temple.

Dante got to his feet, slowly. "Nice Iz" He said to the tiny droid. "I think it's a plan." He replied to Leon. "I'm Dante by the way, and this is Izzy." He gestured toward himself and then to his little companion. At her name the little droid hopped around again. Then jumped to Dante and seemingly latched onto his vest. "We should get moving while we still have some daylight."

Oh nice, you have a BD unit too?” said Leon excited to see the little droid. He’d left Peetwo back on Ithor, he hadn’t considered how much help the little guy would be. He made a mental note to check out the droid's hardware when he got back.

Iz displayed a map and Leon examined it carefully. “Oh duh, yeah sorry, I’m Leon! Nice to meet you Dante, let’s not die, huh?” he said with an easy smile. Now that they weren’t being chased by the reincarnation of hunger itself, Leon began to relax. He’d been in situations like this plenty of times at this point, and hell, he even had his blastsword this time.

I agree, you good to go?” Leon asked. He was impressed with how tough this little guy was, but he didn’t want Dante over-exerting himself either. Being tough was one thing, and being prideful was another.

Leon carried Lionheart in hand as they moved through the dense jungle. He was sure his weapon wasn’t nearly as effective as a lightsaber would be, but he was happy to have it nonetheless.

So, how long you been with The Order, Dante?

They had a pretty good distance to go and given their current state, their pace wasn’t the best. No reason not to get to know one another before the next life-or-death event took place, right?

Dante gave the slightest smile at the other Jedi's notice of the model of droid, lifting a brow in question as he said "too". "You know what model she is? Wow, not many people even remember the BD's. Izzy is kinda special, my mother found her at an action in Corp Sec when I was just a baby." At that the little droid suddenly hopped around and then gave the boy what seemed to look like a little hug with it's leg as it leaned into him. Prompting another smile from the kid.

"Leon? I like it, sounds kinda smart." He said with a nod of acceptance. "I'll do my best, but I don't know about you. The wildlife around here seem to love that hair." He joked. Not sure if it landed, but the kid did have the hair of an old metal band from his dad's time. Dante stood up and stretched then at the Leon's question. "Hay, I'm not the one lunging around that overv sized vibro blade." He retorted as he took a few steps, seemingly in the direction they were heading.

"What is that thing anyway, I've never seen a sword like that." He admitted. The weapon was interesting looking, but Dante would of preferred the weapon of most Jedi, a lightsaber. Leon then took the lead, and started to cut away the jungle as it got in their way. Seeing the blade work only made him want a lightsaber more. But to each their own.

"I've been there a couple of years I think. I was something like nine or ten. I fried one of my father's security droids by accident and a couple of days later a young Knight came to recruit me. Gave my folks the whole, he has a gift mumbo." He answered as they walked. Izzy now back in a pouch on his belt. He took a mental note that he needed to get a better harness for her to clip into, maybe carry on his back, as she was a little heavy on his hip in this rougher terrain. "What about you, you look old enough to be a Knight, what happen, fail your first trial or something?" Again, joking. Yet again, not sure how it landed. He had his father's sense of humor, and well, his father could be an asshole.

Yeah, I came across a BD unit on Christophsis. So far, Peetwo prefers staying in my room, but yours seems to like adventure, that’s pretty cool.

Leon was a lot of things, but he wasn’t sure smart was on the list. “I’m not the one with a freshly healed cut on my head,” he quipped back at Dante, “Speaking of which how are you feeling? Headache or nausea at all?

Leon lifted his blastsword up for Dante to see, “It’s name is Lionheart. It’s an Adumari Blastsword. See the tip here?” he took the blade in both hands and presented it to Dante, then pointed toward a fluted section near the tip of the blade. “When timed correctly, that little nozzle releases a burst of plasma. Not as cool as a lightsaber, but definitely better than nothing, right?

He vaulted over a fallen tree as Dante explained how he’d come to the Jedi, “That’s dope. You must be covered in mito-whatevers.” he said with a chuckle. “I’m actually pretty new. I’ve only been with the Order for like a year.

The year Leon had spent in the Jedi had felt like a lifetime. Survival training on Kashyyyk, training in force-infused martial arts on Ellora, finding an old ass lightsaber and Peetwo on Christophsis, and after this mission to the lightsaber forge, he was scheduled to ship off to Berchest. A planet with cities made totally out of crystal. It was surreal really. He’d never even thought of stepping into the great expanse, but… Well, the force moved in mysterious ways.

You got a master yet? You look like you’re about the age,” asked Leon.

The flora around them was still densely packed. In the distance, if one were to pay close enough attention the sounds of a churning river could be heard. There was also a faint smell of smoke on the air. The smoke couldn’t be seen from their current position in the forest.

"Ha! Yeah, she needed a little work when I got her. Then I've just been taking her almost everywhere I go. I think her personality matrix is just kinda used to it now." Dante said warmly as he padded the little droid clinging to his hip.

"Yeah, that's a neat ability. I'm ok with the core stuff, but not that."
Dante admitted. He did indeed have a firm grasp of the core abilities, as well as a growing and rare talent for manipulating droids. However the level on control to heal himself, let alone others, had escaped him. "I mean, well. My head did smash something sooo." His head was still throbbing, but he wasn't seeing colors or three Leons. So he assumed he'd live.

As the conversation continued, Leon showed off the unique weapon. "It has a name?" He asked. Naming your droid made sense. They could have personality, a soul of sorts. But a sword? "Well, I mean, you can build a hilt to shoot like a blaster. But this is very cool. A lightsaber is just an extension of ourselves. We should master them, as we master ourselves. Why not this thing. If it works for you."

Rather then vault over, Dante chose to use the tree like a kind of balance beam. Without even using his arms, he walked heel to toe across one tree and down another as the other Jedi continued to speak. "Mito-huh? Oh the bug things. Yeah I didn't pay any attention to that lesson." He scoffed. Then jumped down off the log. "What? Just a year, and you can heal people?" Dante was stunned at the revelation. Leon made it sound as if Dante was the powerful one. However even the younger Jedi knew the power to heal another was truly a powerful gift.

For Dante, his journey was just getting started. Though he had been apart of the Order for several years, he was a kid. He'd not ventured far from the temple or the defense fleet. Or perhaps his home. Leon's life experience seemed to be literally flowing from him. Dante could hope he had the same experiences waiting for him on his path.

Dante gave a sigh at Leon's next question, "Sadly no. The Knights and Masters I've seen have seemed to be very busy. The loss of Yavin is still very heavy around the order." He admitted. He heard the roar in the distance then. He got excited then, water was life. The younger Jedi hurried then, ran even. Careless to the jungle reaching out to grab or tear at him. Soon it did indeed give way. Rushing water, falling from a cliff above into a pool above the size of a large speeder before continuing on. In he distance the tiniest wisp of smoke. Which the river seemed to be flowing directly toward. It was also the direction they needed to be going in.

But first, Dante needed a drink. Quickly, he walked to the falls and stepped to it's edge. Letting the falls wash over him. He held his head up and mouth wide to take in as much of the fresh water as he could.

Truth be told, PeeTwo had basically been in hibernation mode since they’d returned from Christophsis. But seeing Izzy cling to Dante’s shoulder or trot around gave him a little hope his companion could come around too.

That’s fair, just let me know if you start feeling weird. I’m still learning and while the outside is better the inside could still be hurt,” though based on Dante’s energy level he doubted the little dude was in serious trouble.

Leon smiled, “It does. Adumari culture believes that these weapons have souls of their own, and that naming them helps them reach their full potential,” He chuckled, “Well said, don't get me wrong though, I’m really looking forward to building my own saber. I'll probably name it too,” he admitted with a laugh.

Dante’s surprise by Leon’s time in the Jedi, gave the older Padawan pause, “Uh, yeah, If you’d have broken something we’d have been screwed, but flesh wounds are easy,” he retorted downplaying the act. “I’m sure you’ll get one soon. I’ve been passed around a ton since getting here, so I can confirm The Order’s reeling following Yavin.

He couldn’t help remembering asking Maura about it, and the sadness that had swept over her and the others on the transport. Losing Yavin had hurt, but even that loss hadn’t stopped the Jedi from picking up and carrying on. Had to give it to them. The space hobos were a tenacious bunch.

Oy, where you going?!” Leon called after Dante. He didn’t waste time calling again instead he followed behind the little battering ram until they finally popped out of the dense jungle and into an opening. The Padawan took in the sight. A natural waterfall flowed into a small pool, before feeding a tributary heading in the direction of… was that smoke?

The thick moisture-filled air made it difficult to smell anything other than water, but on the breeze the smell of char was present. He made his way to the waterfall and cupped his palms together drinking deeply while remaining alert. He smiled at Dante as the kid soaked himself, “You’re gonna wish you’d have stayed dry.

Leon knew this one from experience, hiking in wet anything was a recipe for disaster. Once they’d both drank their fill, Leon would say, “Check it out,” while gesturing toward the wisp of smoke on the horizon.

Maybe we’ll re-link with the others over there, whaddya think?

"Yes doctor." Dante teased. The humidity wasn't doing him any favors, but so far he was managing to get a second wind. So long as he didn't have to manipulate the force to much more. He felt like he could last another couple of hours, and by then they would hopefully find some kind of shelter.

"Soo, are those your people? The Adumari I mean." He asked, and was actually curious. He enjoyed learning from and about others. Other than the force itself, it was to him perhaps the most rewarding part of being in the Order. Hearing that the other Jedi planned to also name his lightsaber, Dante also added. "I like that idea. Maybe I can too?"

"I would have seen a snack, you would have been fine." Dante retorted. Referring to the ship sized flying predator they narrowly escaped from earlier. "We'll see. Force, with the way they're promoting Padawans lately I'll be Ezra's apprentice. I'm sure my father would get a kick out of that."

With that he was off. Clearing the way for his new friend. In truth the prospect of water was something he could not pass up. Nor could he restrain the need to drink, he was so thirsty. Before they knew it, both Jedi were drinking from the falls. Dante with just a bit less caution. As was to be expected of youth.

Once Dante got his fill, he pilled a collapsible platter from a pouch on his belt and filled it for later. Then stepped out of the falls when Leon pointed out the smoke. "Or it could be native cannibals?" He joked. "Maybe you should lead the way this time. If they turn you into stew I promise I'll take good care of Lionheart."

Leon nodded, “Yup,” he he amended his words, “Er, well, they used to be.

Truth be told, he didn’t really feel like he had people anymore. He was a Jedi and that should be enough, but it just wasn’t. Now wasn’t time to dwell on his personal issues, and luckily, Dante gave him a away out.

You should! We could start a club, only members of the Order cool enough to name their lightsabers can join,” he laughed.

At the mention of Ezra, Leon chuckled, “He’s certainly motivated, to be honest, I feel bad for the Padawan that gets stuck with him. His training regime is monstrous.

Of course, Leon also did the same workout as Ez, they were roomies and Leon was too competitive to be left in the dust. Even if Ezra was far more gifted in the force than he was. Man, some people just had all the luck.

Sith spit,” he said, calling bullshit on the cannibal comment when he spotted Dante’s little smirk. OH, he was a little smart ass. Perfect! The older Padawan felt his need to be the strong lead slough off. “Hey, if we run into cannibals I’m just gonna tie you to Lionheart and hand you over, little Dante on a stick!” he said, chuckling as he took the lead.

The Demon Moon gave them a reprieve it seemed as they continued their slog through the dense jungle. The force flowed around like the wind, present and palpable, but invisible to the naked eye. Leon dove in letting it wash over him as he reached out feeling for any incoming threats. In the back of his mind he felt a niggling probe brush against his consciousness. He frowned, stopping in place. He held up a hand signaling Dante to stop. Fear began to trickle toward him from the camp. Then it began to pour.

Something’s wrong,” he said, drawing Lionheart.

A scream split the silence, “C’mon, they need our help!” he barked, plunging into the brush and cutting his way through any foliage that crossed his path. Finally the jungle gave way and Leon burst into a clearing where Jedi Hux Taligar was defending a cluster of young padawans from a pack of Maalraas.

Let’s get it, Dante!” said Leon as he brandished Lionheart and dove into the fray.

"Used to be?" Dante mouthed, but didn't voice, with a expression of confusion on his face. The younger Jedi figured either you had people, or you didn't. Like him. He had no one. He was the bastard child of a Crime Lord, and a Queen. All he ever had around him until the Order, were other criminals and a small droid army.

Dante wasn't alone by any means. But he had not grown the relationships he thought he might after joining the Jedi Order. He was not a member of a Scrub Squad, as they were called in the halls of the temple. Though after the loss of Ciri Shan, that might have been so bad.

Dante then simply laughed a little on the comment about the club. It was amusing at first then he thought on it a moment. Would likely get nurds like him a place to go. Suddenly he was thinking about stealing the idea for himself.

"Maybe is a Sephi thing ?" Dante questioned the comment about Ezra. Who's training regiment was indeed well known among the Padawan class. The so called "prince of the ISC" wouldn't think of himself as such, but he was kind of inspiring. "Not sure who I feel more sorry for, his future Padawan, or his current boy toy." Dante continued. He'd never met Dash, mostly because Dash was to driven to be standing around in the halls for long if at all. But the entire Ithor temple knew of the power couple.

"Sith...Spit? what are you ten?" The current fourteen year old teased, like he had a clue. He said slag nearly every other word. "Ha....Something tells me you're like the the NBA." He commented and then animatedly lifted a stick into the air, "You may have Lionheart, when you taken him from my cold dead hands." Dante chucked along with his new friend.

The mood quickly shifted however. As both young men felt the ripples lap at them. Leon didn't have to tell Dante to stop, the feeling of fear and pain had done that for them. To Dante it was like the warning drops of rain before the monsoon. Both young men could feel it as if it was their own emotions. The scream just gave it a voice. Breaking the sudden silence as quickly as it had come over them.

Stick still in hand, Dante followed Leon. Running headlong into the danger without another thought. In a flash the two Padawans were in the tiny village. The younger barely took note of Hux, rather he seen the younglings the Jedi was shielding and Dante leaped into action.

At a dead run, Dante took off. Aided by a basic use of the force, he leaped to a nearby table, and then off the table on into a downward thrust to cleave at the back of one of the Maalraas. However the larger creature had sensed the danger, and turned to face Dante just as he entered the air. Snatching the pale skinned human by the stick wielding arm, before twisting him in mid flight, sending Dante slamming to the ground.

Winded, Dante coughed and attempted to take in air as he looked up into rows of what he assumed to be teeth. This was the second time in as many months that he was in over his head. Only this time, he felt as if he may actually lose it.

Without hesitation Leon sank into the force. The light side fot he force swam around him becoming a beacon for the force based hunters. The golden eyes of the Anakkoa flashed though his mind and as one of the Maalraas attempted to brush against his consciousness, Leon struck. The beast let out a whimpering howl as it tried to recoil from his mental influeance, but the padawan projected a sense of calm that was intoxicating. As their minds intertwined, Leon felt the animal give into his impression of friendship. The animal whipped around and lunged for one of it’s kin.

At about that time Hux dispatched one, but was being harassed by three more. The fear leaking from the younger padawan’s behind him were fueling the nightstalker’s aggression. Fear to them was like blood to a shark. Snarling snapping jaws continued to work at whittling down Hux, who looked as though he was on his last leg, and then out of the corner of his eye he saw a flash of copper collide with the ground.

Dante!” yelled Leon. Without thought, Leon moved for the kid. Just before a Maalraas could sink it’s teeth into the little homie’s throat Lionheart’s tip intercepted and ignited. Leon had encountered these animals before on his trip to Ellora he knew blaster bolts wouldn’t be effective but explosions were a different thing.

The force of the strike snapped the nightstalker’s face to the side giving Dante just enough time to wiggle free. The Maalraas Leon had befriended stepped up, a limp in its gate, but still full of ferocity. The remaining predators were starting to lose their mettle, but they weren’t out of the woods yet.

Open yourself to the force Dante, feel it’s pull. We can do this, little dude!

Leon was covering Dante while he recovered, but the little guy would be able to see Leon’s mischievous little smirk. “Don’t tell me you’re already tired, I feel like I could do this all day,” he said with obvious sarcasm. Sometimes the best pep talk was a little commiseration mixed with a challenge.

Dante was winded, but not out of the fight. He just needed the second to catch his breath. Stop the marbles of his eyes from spinning in his head. Fear tugged at the corners of his mind. The young boy sensing the predators need to finish his prey. However, he could also sense the fear in the others. Those even younger then him.

He wanted to be brave, to help. Dante needed to help. Fortunately, and not for the first time today even, Leon came to his aid. This time only moments before the nightstacker could take a bite out of Dante's face. The Padawan did not hesitate. Rather, he quickly rolled out and to his knees. Taking a quick breath.

Hearing Leon's words, he did just as encouraged. Sinking into the force, letting the waves of light wash over him. "Oh, I'm just warming up." Dante fired back at Leon. Getting to his feet he took a quick look around. Then reached out with the force, splaying his fingers outward, before turning his hands upward. As he did so, debris started to hover all around the Padawan. Rocks, large and small. As well as branches, even bits from a nearby crashed pod.

Dante focused on his connection, and with twitches of his fingers sent bits of debris sailing toward the predators. The one that nearly took his head, got a rock in the neck. Then a branch in the back leg. While others were getting pelted in the ass or spine. However, largely the debris was simply crashing in or around the area of the dog like creatures. But it was a show of force they were not expecting.

Feeling himself grow tired by the second. Dante shouted. "Together. All of us." Hoping to encourage the other younglings. But continuing his one kid artillery barrage.

Dante rallied and managed to put together an impromptu firing squad of young padawans. One by one they each lifted their hands and began firing off debris of all shapes and sizes. The Maalraas Leon had bonded with relaxed a little as the pack began to break against the onslaught of pebbles and twigs.

Nice work man!” said Leon, clapping the younger padawan on the shoulder. Hux and the group of padawans joined them. The kids were hyped. They’d just used the force for the first time in a combat situation and they were absolutely losing it. Leon turned his attention to Hux, “Are these the only survivors?

He asked the question quietly, and Hux’s expression was grave. “Honestly, I don’t know. Our best bet would be to head for the forge.
Yeah, that’s what we were doing when we found you.” he said, nodding over to Dante.
I’m glad you guys showed up when you did, not sure how much longer I could have lasted.
Leon reached out and squeezed the Knight’s shoulder, “Glad it was you here with them and not me,” he said with a laugh. Hux’s melancholy faltered for just a moment and then he receded back into his Jedi Knight persona.

Padawans, Gather!” The younger kids snapped to attention all business now that they were real Jedi. “We don’t have much further to go, but we need to move quickly. Everyone stays together and stays close, Baudelaire you take the rear, Dante you take the front and set a pace the others can keep, I’ll watch our flanks. Let’s move.

Leon nodded, taking his position toward the back. About an hour later and they’d made the trek. The mouth of a cave lay before them, Hux held up the signal to stop, then gather. Leon’s heart was starting to sink when he heard a voice come out of the cave, “Master Hux?

A padawan no older than eleven poked their head out of the cave. Leon could see Hux’s shoulder’s sag in relief. “About time you guys showed,” came another voice. Alder, the knight Leon had been assigned too. “Thanks for bringing my padawan back, Hux!” he said with a laugh.

Once things had settled down Leon would look for Dante.

Hey man, just wanted to say good work out there today,” he jutted his chin toward the forge just beyond the cave, “Hux says we're gonna get our saber materials tomorrow. Guess it's a reward for saving the day. You should ask for a crystal.

Leon would stick his hand out, “Anytime you need a mission buddy, you let me know, huh?
