Biography
Fighting could almost be considered a tradition in Kanan’s family, passed down from father to son. His grandfather served as a pilot in the days of the First Order, fighting alongside the Resistance in their monumental battle for freedom, and his great-grandfather served as a ground trooper with the New Republic during the days of the Galactic Civil War. Kanan held his grandfathers in high regard, and as a young boy he loved nothing more than to listen to stories about their adventures and heroic deeds.
With no galaxy-wide war raging during Kanan’s nor his father’s lifetime, Kanan went searching for one as a teen, discontent to live the quiet life his father had opted to live forever. Kanan found exactly what he was looking for in the mountains of Arda-1. The planet was experiencing a small civil war, rebels rising up against the powers that be after years of what they believed to be oppression.
It was a small war compared to those that his grandfathers had fought, but it was a fight, nonetheless, and he found much of what he had been searching for there on Arda-1. There he fought, and there he became a man. There he found purpose and drive and most importantly, a desire to help those who could not help themselves. There he found friends and made enemies, and there he found so much more than he had bargained for: love.
Jania was a red haired rebel warrior with the temper and driving force to match, and her blade was as fast as her wit. Kanan fought alongside her, shoulder to shoulder, for three years, and when the civil war on Arda-1 ended, they were wed.
The Sector Ranger’s motto “What others abandon, we protect” seemed to align with the life Kanan was already living, and so it only felt natural that he should sign up. He and Jania settled on Coruscant, headquarters of the Sector Rangers, and while Kanan trained diligently and tirelessly to become a Ranger, Jania picked up work in local government. Though diligent in his training, Kanan never failed in his devotion to Jania and the vows they had taken when married.
Following the accidental death of his wife and unborn child in a Syndicate shooting shortly after becoming a Ranger, Kanan threw himself full-force into his work. Now many years later, he takes heightened pleasure in bringing criminals to justice, whether that has to be at the end of a blaster or through due process.
Abilities
Kanan is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and is a skilled marksman. He is fair with a blade but could use improvement. Due to extensive traveling, he speaks several languages—Galactic Basic, Huttese, and Twi'leki to name a few. As a Sector Ranger, he remains physically fit and has the mind of a detective. Over a decade on the job has taught him how to deal with people and how to read them.
Personality
A determined individual, Kanan is a hard-working man who never shies away from his duty or his obligations. His manner can be cold and rough, and it can be difficult to get to know him as he doesn't open up easily to others. Despite appearances, his heart beats for the people he is sworn to protect. Hot-tempered and occasionally impulsive as he might be, he is unwavering in his convictions. Since the passing of his wife, the Sector Rangers is his life.
