Level 1313
With the stench of a thousand odors hanging in the air, Chant Sindhu walked down the semi-empty sidewalk. Another day, another dump. The Mon Calamari thought sacrastly, keeping both hands in her pockets. Now and then she glanced around the surroundings. Given this level’s infamy it was only natural for her to be a bit paranoid.

Well at least I got a new ship and hopefully a new job lining up soon.

As a speeder flew by from above Chant brought out her commlink while continuing to walk. “Ness how are things at your end?” Her astromech answered back in a series of beeps that caused the freelance pilot to nod. “Good girl. Stay with the ship, this should not take me long.”

Ness replied in a click and whistle and Chant smiled as a result. “Yes I’ll be careful you have my word.”

The flyer subsequently put up the commlink and soon enough stopped in front of a run down apartment complex. Yep this is the place. Shir Li better be here or this little trip is for nothing. Looking side to side, Chant then pressed the entrance controls and the door slid open.

Mara tried her best to blend in to the crowd of the lower levels, but her mannerisms and speech touted the obvious: she was not one of them. She might as well had just dressed as she normally had done so to get the same reactions, but she was ambitious in her trade, pushing until she reached her own limits, never-minding the limits of everyone else. Though this job was pushing her own limits and even more her patience, she new the payout would be great and she could finally get more worthy stories to follow leads on for the top news sources in the core worlds.

The journalist dug her hands into the pockets of her spacer's jacket as her eyes scanned the area, she was looking for the correct building now that she was in the right sector. It took entirely too long and she hoped she didn't miss her opportunity as she followed shortly behind a Mon Cal into a run down apartment building. Internally, Mara grimaced at the place, she was uncertain why these places attracted the lowest of the low, however Mara went inside anyways.

She fiddled with the holocam in her pocket as she passed the Mon Cal and headed straight to the stair well to the upper levels.

Chant heard the footsteps and briefly glanced back as she continued to walk. It was a dark haired human wearing a jacket. Relieved it wasn’t a mugger the pilot looked away. Subsequently the stranger passed her by without so much of a word.

“Excuse you.” She muttered to herself while noticing the holocam the other person brought out. Rather curious the pilot thought but decided it didn’t concern her. Following behind the human, each step they took creaked. A dim light flickered above.

I’m surprised this filth nest hasn’t been torn down yet. Awaiting for both the stranger and her was the first level of rooms lined opposite from one another on each side. Some were opened with darkened rooms while others were completely shut. A fat womp rat feasting on scraps with a squeak fled to a hole in the left wall upon the intrusion.

Inside the central room on the right side awaited a pair of green Twi’lek twins in makeshift gear. They awaited in the shadows of the walls, awaiting for their intended victim. One of the twins whispered.

“I hear steps, must she be here. Let’s get her”

“Patience Rooke. She’s expecting an informant and already knows the room number. Let’s the reporter come inside first then we deal with her. Remember our client wants this one to suffer first.”

“Like we did that Gotal who arrived earlier. That sleemo wouldn’t shut up, begging for his life.” Rook repiled, smirking as he relived that memory.

The older brother Uren shook his head and added while drawing his pistol. “Keep your urges in check brother.”

Nodding Rooke prepared his large knife, already stained with Gotal blood.

Mara pulled out the holocam to ensure the recorder was switched on and dropped it back in her pocket, she looked around, noting the numbers on the doors, though there seemed there were more without than with identifiers other than physical appearance. She looked over her shoulder hearing the floorboards creak under the weight of their steps. Internally, Mara frowned, not liking the idea this gal was following her, but she was banking it was coincidence, she certainly was not in the mood to have this be a fluke of a lead.

She eventually found the door to the room that was described in her notes, she let her hand hover over the keypad for a moment, the briefest hesitation as she felt her intuition to tell her to forget it and leave. Mara of course ignored it, playing it to her nerves in being near a location that was just not to her standards. The keypad beeped quietly as she entered the pass code and stepped inside. It was completely dark albeit the light from the windows offered some relief of the shadows. The journalist stepped further inside, her eyes adjusting to the dark, "Hello?" she spoke softly walking toward a window to get a better look around the room.
