Kronos (/ˈkroʊnɒs/) was a male Besalisk who was trained to use the dark side of the Force and, despite never having been classically trained by the Jedi Order, numbered himself among the dark Jedi of the Jedi Exiles. Though, at first, he did not join with a cell (such as the one that formed near his species homeworld on Prakith), he later decided to take part in the shadow war between the Exiles and the Jedi Order for unknown reasons.

Biography

The boy who would come to be known as Kronos was born the son of Besalisk refugees on the aquatic world Quila. His family, along with dozens of other Besalisks, fled their homeworld of Ojom in the Deep Core following the intense fighting between the Jedi Exiles and the Jedi Order in the region. When he was still not fully mature, the refugee colony was destroyed during a cataclysmic storm that produced vast tidal waves, leaving him the only survivor. Still adrift, he was discovered by a Karkarodon fallen Jedi, named Sobek, who sensed his potential in the Force and took him to be his student.

For years, Kronos was trained to be a weapon of the dark side of the Force. He became a highly-refined and disciplined warrior who mastered his unique physiology so that he might use two double-bladed lightsabers in combat. During his training, Sobek took Kronos to Ojom, his species' homeworld, to see the devastation the Jedi Order's campaign in the Core Worlds had wrought. The Dark Jedi Master also used the Force to inflict visions of his people's suffering on the boy, instilling a deep hatred for the Order in the young Besalisk. This training left a lasting impression on Kronos, who gained the desire to wrench the rule of the galaxy away from the Jedi and the lights side of the Force.

At some point, early on in his training, Kronos learned that he was not the only apprentice of Sobek. In fact, the dark master had gathered four other students—all orphans, like himself—in the hopes of pitting them against one another to ensure only the strongest was his true apprentice. To that end, Kronos, along with his four fellow apprentices, were dispatched to Twon Kee to face rathtars. But the tentacled monsters were far from the only threat. During the mission, one of the apprentices, an Umbaran known as Theia, turned on Kronos—hoping to garner favor with their master—and attempted to murder the Besalisk. Kronos won the duel and slew his would-be murderer, and, when the remaining apprentices returned to their master, Sobek was pleased, declaring that they had all learned a valuable lesson: betrayal.

Next, Kronos and his fellow apprentices were dispatched to create their own lightsabers with bled crystals to prove their affiliation to the dark side. The caveat was that doing so would require them to obtain the lightsaber(s) of Jedi. After gathering intel, Kronos ambushed a group of young Jedi Knights on a mercy mission to Champala and managed to slaughter them one-by-one by leading them into the forest, preying on their fears, and then picking them off. Afterwards, he left for Mustafar, where he used a dark side locus there to bleed the four crystals and create his twin double-bladed lightsabers. Upon returning to Sobek, he learned that two of the other apprentices had died without creating their lightsabers, leaving only himself and one other—a Trandoshan named Crius—as the last apprentices.

The final test took place on Mygeeto. Kronos and Crius were pit against one another, but, being a species more adapted to the cold, Kronos quickly gained the upper hand. In the final confrontation, he brutally murdered his fellow apprentice, demonstrating his deep connection to the dark side and lightsaber mastery. His trials complete, Kronos returned to his master, but found himself disillusioned with Sobek. He came to believe that the galaxy at war was in chaos and that a strong dark sider was needed to rule and bring order. To that end, he became disgusted by Sobek's need to hide behind apprentices and betrayed his master, murdering him in his sleep.

In the following years, Kronos dedicated himself to mastering the secrets of the dark side and began to look for one who would bring order to the galaxy. From afar, he initially believed that the warlord Andraste was to be that person. But he came to regard her as a pretender: a former Jedi Knight who was too self-indulgent and drunk on her own power. Slowly, he began to come to the realization that, if he wanted to bring order to the galaxy, he would have to become more powerful and do it himself...

Personality and traits

DcUR4rJ.png
Kronos embodied the eye of a hurricane: the picture of calm and collected, surrounded by a storm of infinite darkness. Outwardly, he appeared to be in complete control of his emotions. He had a calm, eloquent, even sometimes soothing, manner of speaking even when fury and hatred burned beneath the surface. But this was a simple mask for the well of infinite sadism, hatred, and cruelty that lay underneath. In truth, he was a supremely evil being devoted to cultivating his connection to the Force and solidifying his mastery over the dark side.

Though members of his species were known for being kind-hearted and helpful, Kronos was utterly ruthless, virtually devoid of all mercy, and indifferent towards his subordinates. He did not tolerate failure and punished those who failed him with pain, torment, or death. He also showed indifference towards life, and was willing to extinguish it without any signs of remorse. He was not above the use of torture to get what he wanted, and showed fearsome tenacity when pursuing his objectives.

Because of his frighteningly imposing figure, Kronos could inspire fear and unease with his mere presence. He did not require outbursts, as some Dark Jedi did, to command fear or convey anger, instead relying only on silence to express his displeasure in most occasions. He was also highly impatient and detested relying upon others, which often led him to take matters into his own hands if he perceived even the slightest setback in his own designs.

He was notably arrogant, bearing a confidence that made it hard to intimidate him, even when faced with overwhelming odds or power much beyond his. For instance, he showed little regard for demonstrating his disdain for the warlord Andraste, despite her status as the strongest known Jedi Exile. He regarded attempts to impede or outright stop his plans as "fun," seemingly enjoying the chase and the competition.

Unlike other Dark Jedi, including his own master, Kronos saw no need to take on an apprentice and actually held a great deal of disdain for the practice—believing it encouraged murder and disorder. While he frequently trained and lent his knowledge to others, in an attempt to make them his faithful pawns, Kronos never trained a formal apprentice and kept the most potent of his secrets to himself.

Despite all of this, Kronos was not without some measure of decency and emotion. His fall to the dark side was deeply entwined with the fate of his family and people, who were displaced by the Jedi Order during the war. Part of his desire to establish an ordered galaxy was to make it safe again for his people to return home. He also was shown to respect those with a tenacity and dedication to their goals comparable to his, and was especially respectful of those who demonstrated the traits of a warrior.

Powers and abilities

Kronos was a dark warrior comparable in power to a Jedi Knight. He used two double-bladed lightsabers in combat, which he used in a variety of formats: single-bladed and double-bladed. He could use his unique physiology to wield both effectively at the same time. Due to his second pair of arms, he could also fight with his lightsabers and use the Force at the same time, if necessary. He preferred lightsaber combat, though, and was trained to use it with deadly efficiency. He was also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and possessed monstrous strength in comparison to his human counterparts. He possessed high levels of endurance and stamina, which allowed him to take hits and use his highly-acrobatic combat forms and maneuvers.

Kronos was also a gifted Force prodigy. He was particularly skilled at using telekinesis and could apply it to a variety of powers, such as the ability to Force choke those whom he wished to express his displeasure. He enjoyed using mind probes to torture information out of his victims. He could also produce Force barriers and project deadly Force lightning from the tips of his fingers when the situation called for it.

Finally, Kronos was exceedingly intelligent and cunning. He was at least a skilled tactician and was also capable of speaking a variety of languages (though he preferred to speak in Galactic Basic Standard).

Equipment

Kronos wore a unique brand of dark warrior armor in combat (and standard black robes outside of combat). He carried with him a pair of collapsible double-bladed lightsabers for combat, and he possessed a standard comlink and datapad for communication and record-keeping respectively. He used a Goji-class light freighter for transportation.
