DESCRIPTION
The L-7 Series Chainsword was developed to create a weapon of war that left wounds that weren't easily mended by medics or trained surgeons. The weapon consists of an ultrachrome frame with an internal engine system that is powered through an energy cell. Once the weapon is activated by squeezing on the trigger found within the handguard of the weapon, the weapon's "blade" will whirr to life. The "blade" of this chain-weapon is in reality a set of teeth, usually comprised of ultrachrome or another lightsaber resistant material set on a chain. Once active the chainblade will rotate at approximately 14,000 to 20,000 rpms, this can cause massive damage to armored plating with enough strikes and catastrophic damage to the body of the target. While most chainswords are comprised lightsaber resistant materials, it isn't uncommon for cheap knockoffs to be comprised of more baseline materials.

LEGALITY
Legal outside of the core worlds of the Republic, Republic allied worlds, and most of Sith Space. Illegal in Republic and Sith Space for the inhumane design of the weapon, mortality rates in victims, and intensity of traumatic wounds caused in survivors. Even where legal, the weapon is commonly seen in the hands of pirates, raiders, and other illicit elements, so prejudices are given to those who utilize it openly.

INTENT
My intent for this weapon is create a melee weapon for non-force sensitives and force sensitives alike that is less elegant and more visceral in design. I do not believe a chainsword exists currently on the site and this provides an interesting alternative to bog standard vibroblades. In addition, this takes a recognizable element of other science fiction series and apply it to our universe, allowing for a more diverse choice in melee weaponry across the board.

As cool as chainswords are, I'm leery of importing things directly from 40K. At the very least, do you think you could find an image that isn't from that setting?

I found an image that isn’t from the setting and is more generic.
