HOLONET NEWS

It's that time. Nicolas Clément would be dressed for business, wearing a nice suit, looking professional as a politican should. He would front and center, facing the camera, sitting at his Corellian hardwood desk. The video was shot in the New Alderaan Senator's office in Chandrilia, with bookcases and other typical clutter in the background and as well as his desk. Nicolas wondered if this was the best way of appoarching this, he was sort of nervous, with him being the center of this video that can be seen by anyone with holonet access. But out of duty and genuine desire for things to be set right, he would set it all aside. There would be no signs of nervousness from his body language while the camera is live.

"People of the galaxy, I'm Nicolas Clément, Senator of New Alderaan" he would start off with, and introduced himself, for the benefit of those who don't know the recently elected Senator of New Alderaan. With that out of the way, time to get straight to the issue at hand directly. Might as well, right "So yesterday it's come to light with the video by Emryc Thorne that uninvolved worlds - people in neutral territory just trying to live their lives in peace - are getting caught in the crossfire and have been suffering as a result. I do feel for those that have been affected by this, either directly or indirectly, as well as all lives lost and affected with the fighting against the Sith." He would nod his head as he would frown.

The New Alderaanian Senator's expression would then turn stern. "Emryc Throne" (@Sreeya) he said calmly, would begin addressing specifically. "You do have very good points and your frustration towards the FWA and Jedi is understandable. I do commend you for you bravery in speaking up" he would then pause. "I know you have called for an alliance of non-aligned systems. But I am willing to talk about this with you in a civil manner, and see if we can come to a understanding diplomatically instead of potentially escalating tensions further. Perhaps we can find common ground and work to fix this together" A pause once more.

"Lets talk about this on Naboo, a neutral, peaceful planet. I implore upon other Senators to come, I am also calling for a representative of the of the Jedi (@TWD26) to be there as well. So that we can come to solution together, for a better galaxy." He said, he meant his words, he'd be a bad Alderaanian if he didn't. After a few seconds, he would then pose one question "What do you say?". he would ask. With that, the video feed would end as the video is over.

How Emryc or any other party wants to respond is up to them. Would he accept? Would he respond, Nicolas doesn't know, but he can say say he tried regardless. Emryc could send another holonet message if he wants, communicate to Nicolas privately via his office, or by other means. Now all Nicolas can do is wait.

Things could have been better back on Kattada. Granted, the planet itself was doing fine. The weather was still perfect. The beaches were still pristine. The oceans still boasted a turquoise paradise on white sand. The citizens were still happy. Unfortunately, for Soygun York, the business numbers did not look quite as perfect as the beaches. His father's legal troubles weren't doing the family-owned resorts any favors. As if that wasn't enough, fear and uncertainty was running rampant through the galaxy. People were much more hesitant for interstellar travel due to terrorists attacks on planets in the Core and threats of independent systems banding together to create a rival to the FWA. But what sort of rival was this Emryc Thorne planning? An economic rival? A military rival? Both? The rise of the Sith didn't do much to settle nerves either. Thanks to Thorne, fears about the Jedi likely would be on the rise as well.

All of these factors were playing hell with business on Kattada. Soygun studied the numbers on his datapad. The last quarter was brutal. The projections for the next quarter didn't look to be much better. York was flipping through the information on his datapad looking for areas of wasteful spending or places that he could cut corners without disturbing the luxurious accommodations and expectations of the clients. He was interrupted by Travix, his protocol droid which not only served him as a personal translator while working in the Senate, but also as a personal secretary of sorts.

"Pardon, Senator York," Travix said. "You said you wanted to know if anything related to the Senate or Emryc Thorne was posted in the news." Travix held out a holographic projector which was grabbed by York.

"Thank you, Travix." The droid walked away and Soygun put the projector on the desk and poured a bit of Commenor brandy in a glass to settle his nerves. He hit play and watched the young senator from New Alderaan speak on the matter of Thorne. York had nothing against the young senator, and what he was clearly striving for- peace- was a necessary next step if the business in Kattada was to get on the upswing again. He would be more than happy to work with Senator Clément on the issue, but he was a little concerned about his strategy to achieve it. York sipped his brandy and feared that the senator was trying to make everyone happy. Soygun didn't know how that would be possible. Asking the FWA, this new confederation of independent systems, the Jedi, the Sector Rangers, and possibly even the Sith to all be happy with the same arrangement...seemed too tall a task. And that isn't even getting into the patch of galaxy that was controlled by the Five Syndicates.

"Lets talk about this on Naboo, a neutral, peaceful planet," The New Alderaanian offered. "I implore upon other Senators to come, I am also calling for a representative of the of the Jedi to be there as well. So that we can come to solution together, for a better galaxy."

Soygun thought about it for a while. Meeting with Thorne was a savvy play. Get him to the table. Get a feel for him. Throw out the olive branch and see if there is common ground. He didn't like the idea of the Jedi poking their noses in it though. Soygun would prefer for the FWA to distance themselves from the Jedi. They were...weird. And perhaps too concerned with doing the "right thing" as opposed to doing what was necessary. Soygun much preferred the Sector Rangers for that job. They had a reputation for accepting a little collateral damage if it got the job done. Still, there was no going back on it. The Jedi did love inserting their opinion, and now that they have been invited, they will certainly provide some representation.

York tapped a button on his desk and Travix came back to the room. "Yes, Senator York?"

"Send a correspondence to Senator Clément. Tell him that I'm very thankful that he has taken the initiative to start talks with Thorne, and that I plan to be there to support his voice of preserving the peace and prosperity in the FWA regions."

"As you wish, Senator York."

Emryc was in Chaleydonia on Christophsis, sitting across the table from a very powerful woman. She held the title of Governor and getting her support would be critical in swinging the planet over to his alliance of independent systems. He had gotten into the habit of wearing more suits, a complete flip from the Kravos armor that he wore for Sith or ‘Spicelord’ appearances.

Grassroots campaigning was exhausting, and his days had gotten longer. He spent less time on the space station and more on different planets. He had to build up a support team and funding and recruiting it was costly. Having Governor Lyara’s support would give him a tremendous amount of credibility and allow him a foot in the door with neighboring worlds.

The problem was that she wasn’t entirely convinced just yet. He knew how to smoothtalk, but the fact remained that he needed to have more of an established platform before going after the high targets. Emryc watched the woman in silence as she looked down at the proposal he had presented.

She began to open her mouth to utter what was sure to be a no thank you when a nearby Holonet address caught her attention. She turned to watch as a FWA Senator came on screen and uttered Emryc’s name. Lyara watched with interest and Emryc turned his chair around to do the same.

His name was mentioned again, followed by an invitation to a forum with various diplomats around the galaxy. Lyara watched the entire broadcast until it was done. Emryc turned back to face her, silence hanging for a moment.

“Well, Governor,” He said quietly, “It doesn’t appear as if you’re interested. It was a pleasure to meet with you regardless,” Emryc reached over to shake her hand as she blankly stared at him. He took his datapad and turned to leave.

“Wait!”

Emryc paused at the doorway.

“You would...you would be able to represent us in a galactic forum?”

He didn’t turn to look at her, “That’s what was promised.”

Lyara drummed her fingers on the table, looking from the Holo, to Emryc and then back to the Holo.

“Why don’t you sit back down, Mr. Thorne?” She said, her voice suddenly sweet, “I may have misjudged some things. I’m sure we can come to some kind of arrangement.”
