The fall of the Ascendency made it so. When I was a kid I would sometimes, at the coldness of my dreams, think to myself: “What If I was born earlier? Would I be able to save the Ascendency? I wish I could…” I wish I could… Those words were the biggest barrier in all my life: surrounded by pain and suffering, that’s how I grew up, I turned out to be insecure and weak, I would cry silently at night while my parents slept, I would never tell them how I suffered from xenophobia, the kids my age were cruel back then, they picked on me so much I felt like I would fall apart at any moment. But, still, there was always something that kept me going, a sparkly dream I had ever time I closed my eyes: I dreamed about them, from the mighty Super Star Destroyers to the simplest Wraith-class, that dream always filled my heart with a fuzzy felling, I felt like I still had a chance… I could be like the greats. Always, in those dreams, he was there. A man I only heard about in tales, a man I knew I would never, in my life, meet. A man that would live only in my dreams and the history books I so carefully read: Mitth’raw’nuruodo, he was always an example to me, a standard of hope, a way to tranquilize myself in the stormy ocean that was my life. If Thrawn, a Chiss, managed to arise through the ranks to the point of becoming an Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy, even though he lived in a time where the Imperium was much more xenophobic than today… What wasn’t impossible? My family, like me, venerated Thrawn and saw him as the greatest Chiss to ever live; I only wished he was here once again when we needed him. Thrawn was the pinnacle of everything I never had: courage, smarts, skill, intelligence, wisdom, strength and dexterity of mind. When I was young, I wanted to be just like him, but I would always end up meeting my father’s cold gaze, as he told to me: “If you want something, you’ve got to deserve it.” He always took a brief pause after “Effort and study son, if you have both of those in mind, one day you’ll get there…” If I had just realized the truth about that earlier, life would have been easier. I would end up realizing the truth in my father’s words when I joined the Military Academy. Without effort, I would be a no one, but I wanted to be the best… No, no, I will be the best. I will make my ancestors proud; I will make the Chiss proud, and nothing will stop me. ​
