Lothal Depot, Near the city of Jalath

Inside a former Imperial cell was a pair of human gangsters in brown makeshift gear, staring down at their captive tied to a chair. Panting Chant Sindhu looked up at them with her left eye bruised and mouth bleeding. They smirked at her discomfort before one of them, a dark haired man with a long ponytail asked. “Ready to talk now fish bait?”

At first the blue Mon Calamari did nothing but stare before she slowly nodded. “Come closer and I’ll tell ya.” Chant whispered to him. Pleased the ponytail leaned over to her face hear what the prisoner had to confess. Without warning Chant spit in his right eye. The would-be interrogator cried out as blood and saliva struck true into his pupil. Recoiling back the ponytail gangster wiped his eye with both hands while the woman with the shaved head next to him drew her pistol to shoot Chant in the temple.

”Stop!” Her partner shouted angrily raising one hand in gesture. Now staring daggers at the beaten yet defiant Chant, he remarked. “Remember what the boss said? We need this one alive..” Shaved head rolled her eyes in annoyance. “This schutta hasn’t told us anything about where her ship is and the cargo. We’re wasting our time.”

Waving off her objections pointytail replied. “Now, now sweetheart good things come to those who wait.” Glancing back at Chant he cracked his knuckles together.

”Time for our next session.”

Meanwhile outside with the night sky high above, a green R-6 astromech rolled into the perimeter of the supply depot. Using a section of large containers shaped into a labyrinth-like formation as cover the droid pressed on. Ness, tried to stay as quiet as possible. Her organic friend, Chant was in trouble and there no way in the universe that is she going to leave her to die in an dump like this place. The droid suddenly detected footsteps coming her way.

Making a quick decision Ness hide in the left corridor behind several dursteel barrels. A minute later an Aqualish in an yellow suit walked murmuring to himself while examining a datapad in hand. Once the thug was long gone and out of sight, Ness made a soft bleep before pressing on. Soon enough the astromech came out of the makeshift maze now beholding one of more than dozen landing pads the depot had. Some were filled with freighters and smaller craft.

There were a few gangsters spread out in the area patrolling or lounging about as worker droids were busy with their various tasks. Taking the chance that no one would pay much attention to another droid, Ness rolled on toward the main facility from the east side tracing Chant’s secret signal hailing from there. Stopping in front of a locked door Ness twisted her dome head left then right to make sure no one noticed before plugging a data probe into the door controls. Little did the machine realized there is another infiltrating the depot...

The depot wasn't exactly hard to find. Criminals were hardly the most subtle of people, by necessity. The gang wanted to sell the supplies, right? So obviously they needed to be found. Nara knew what it was like, she'd ran with people like that when she'd been younger. Harsher. Less likely to put her life on the line.

The new Nara was putting her skills to better use. The Galaxy was filled with the desperate and the needy, all of whom were crying out for support, care and shelter. Helping them out proved more fulfilling and valuable than endless lectures about emotion and debates on the nature of the darkness within, so Nara found herself doing more and more of it. Jalath had filled with refugees of late, many of them hungry and sick. People were scared and they reckoned Lothal was one of the safer worlds on the Outer Rim. Until a ton of supplies had been 'misplaced.'

Nara scaled the 'fence' with ease. Not hard for someone athletic. Besides, the Force was with her. She could scale heights and leap across distances, what barrier did a bunch of shipping containers pose to a Jedi? A Jedi Knight she reminded herself proudly as she snuck over, sticking to the murky shadows.

She noticed an astromech by a door. At first, she dismissed it. Just another droid doing some business. But then she noticed it was messing with the controls. Didn't look like the controls needed to be repaired or anything... so was it slicing? Nara contemplated what to do... before one of the thugs turned the corner, noticing the droid. For a couple of seconds he stood there, his thoughts clearly following the same tracks that Nara'd just had. Suspicion clouded his eyes and then...

"Hey. Hey, what're you doing?" he called out, drawing a blaster from his belt. "You ain't supposed to be messing with-"

Nara didn't wait. She slid her own blaster from her belt, switched it to stun, and aimed it right at him. A quick squeeze and there was a flash and pulse. The blaster hit him square on the chest. He flew back into the dusty ground, sending up swirls of dirt. Nara moved from the gloom, slipping closer and kicking his blaster away, checking that he was out. Satisfied, she turned towards the droid. She put her blaster away quick, holding up her hands.

"Hey," she whispered, kneeling down, "what are you doing? I know you don't work here, I can tell when a droid is slicing," she explained. Giving the droid a little smirk, she unclipped her saber and showed it to her. "I'm Nara. Jedi Knight. They took some medicine from some refugees. I'm getting it back. Did they take something from you, too?"

The droid clicked in alarm when spotted and threatened. Suddenly the guard was hit by a stun blast and collapsed backward, kicking up dust. Puzzled the emerald colored astromech subsequently a young human female approached and kicked the guard’s blaster away. Clearly not with the gangsters but was she really not a new threat?

Ness’ internal question was answered when the stranger put up her weapon and raised both hands showing she meant no harm. Still the dome head machine projected what could almost like suspicion by staying very still and quiet upon being questioned. However, when the human revealed herself to be a Jedi and displayed the lightsaber Ness immediately let out an excited chirp.

At the second question Ness at last answered in binary. Assuming Nara understood droidspeak the little machine would state that the gangster here had taken her best friend captive and that she was trying to rescue her. Then in a sentence of bleeps and a whistle Ness would explain she was tracing her friend’s secret singel and requested the Jedi‘s assistance.

Fortunately, Nara did understand droidspeak pretty well. "You're friend's in there, huh?" she asked, thinking over the strategy. She had no idea how many people were in the compound or what sort of welcome was waiting for the two of them. Find the droid's friend and then... well, then she'd get the supplies she needed.

Nara tapped the panel and the door whizzed open. "Good job," she said to Ness, smiling. "I'll help you find your friend. They might know where they stashed the meds." Nara slipped in through the door, entering a dark hallway. She placed the saber back on her belt. No use igniting it yet and alerting everyone. She took the blaster back out, stepping carefully down the hallway.

"Come on, follow me,"
she said quietly to Ness, waving her over. "Keep back as best you can, they're going to focus on me." She wasn't scared. There were quite a few people around, based on her initial, brief scout of the area, but they were nothing but well-organised thugs. And Nara was a Jedi Knight.

"Have you got a fix on your friend? Are they close?" she asked Ness, peeking her blaster around a corner as they moved deeper into the building.

Bleeping her thanks to the Jedi, Ness now calculated the odds of the rescue had now increased ever more slightly. The astromech observed Nara entering the now unlocked door in part of her own efforts. At her ally’s suggestion Ness complied, rolling some distance away behind the Jedi.

Advancing until they stopped Ness acknowledged the question with an explanation in droidspeak. Nara would be able to translate that the mech was following a signal that her partner was secretly transmitting. By calculation her friend was being held in the east wing at the next two corridors. Being a navigator for a pilot over the years have given Ness plenty of experience in locating things.

Briefly the droid uttered an electrical verison of a soft moan. It was her way of expressing concern. She wanted to believe Chant was somehow alright but thugs like the ones here don’t tend to value the well-being of others. The astromech wouldn’t know what to do if anything did happen to her best friend.

Nara listened as she carefully edged her way down one of the corridors, looking out for any sign of thugs, criminals or guards. Didn't seem to be any though. She wondered how big the operation was, whether they were a small crew that just lucked out on. a big place and didn't have the manpower to hold it well... or whether the guards were just busy with the droid's friend. That didn't bode well.

"Hey, we'll find her. And if anything's happening, we'll stop it," Nara vowed, holding her blaster close as she made her way carefully down the next corridor, hearing voices. Mutterings. Echoes and slams. That doesn't sound good. At the end of the corridor there was a closed door. As Nara moved closer, she could hear different voices and louder, firmer slaps and hits. She a little nervous. More than one? Might be a challenge, especially if the droid's friend was in there. She tried to look in through the scuffed, filthy viewport but... it was difficult. There were a few shapes moving in there... and one in a seat?

"Is your friend a Mon Calamari?"
Nara asked the droid quietly as she kept looking. Hmm. She could probably stun one or two but she wasn't the world's best shot... and there could be more in there. With her free hand, she unclipped her saber again. "I count three people in there with her. Maybe more. Hard to see," she admitted, looking down at Ness.

"How brave are you feeling?"

Ness had never met Jedi before until now but this one was proving to be quite efficient. Once they reached the door, the astromech had to restrain itself from making too many noises in anticipation and concern. Once the Jedi stopped and looked inside Ness grew impatient wanting to rush in already.

However, the droid detected the noises coming inside and immediately made a calculation and she didn’t like it. An angry bleep escaped from her audio processor. When Nara asked her latest question Ness gave an affirmative click. After being explained about the odds they were facing, the mech answered only by putting out her small electric pike, clearly showing her intention to fight her captors.

________________________________________________

Punched across the face again by mr. ponytail, Chant lowered her head, dripping blood from the mouth. The interrogator sighed from exhaustion flanked by fellow gang members. Their captive had not uttered a single helpful word for them. Clenching his teeth in frustration he forced the beaten pilot to look up at him before screaming.

“Tell us what you know now or we serve your flesh to our massiffs!”

Despite her bruised appearance and the threat the Mon Calamari defiantly answered.

“Eat poodoo sleemo!”

Shouting out in rage the thug drew his pistol and aimed for Chant’s head...

Nara looked back through the grimy viewport and saw the thug raise the pistol. There was no more time. It had to be now. With a breath, Nara shoved the door open. With their attention on Chant, sat in the middle of the room, they were all caught out as the door open and she stepped in, raising her blaster. She aimed at right at the body of the armed thug, squeezing the trigger. Two shots ripped out of her blaster, landing straight into the back of a very surprised looking thug.

With that, Nara stepped forwards and ignited her saber. The grimy room lit up in a shimmering sapphire blue. The lightsaber blade sizzled softly through the dust as she raised it higher, brandishing it with one hand. She looked at the rest of the thugs as she made room for Ness. The sudden appearance of a lightsaber in close quarters didn't bode all that well.

"You know what one of these is and you know what that makes me," Nara announced to them. She tried to keep it calm and cool, though there was a definite edge to her voice. "I am a Knight of the Jedi Order. Drop your weapons and release your prisoner, and you will not be harmed." Her eyes flitted from thug to thug, waiting for movements. Almost daring them to try something.

"See if you can get your friend free," Nara said to Ness, nodding towards Chant. "If she needs healing, I can help her once we're... a little less busy."

Chant refused to look away even with the blaster to the temple. She wasn’t going to give these scum the satisfaction of cowering her in this final moment. Unexpectedly the door flew open and two shots rang out and struck the chief interrogator in the back. The latter in sudden pain collapsed sideways.

Alarmed the remaining gangsters and their captive turned around and were further shocked by what they saw next. A human female stormed, igniting a blue energy blade with a hiss. Chant Sindhu’s jaw dropped at the sight, recognizing that weapon from anywhere and so did her now frightened captors.

Oceans preserve me, a lightsaber. The Mon Calamari thought, in disbelief. She couldn’t help but wonder if this was some kind of dream or something. The blade wielder immediately identified herself as a Jedi Knight and demanded the crooks to free Chant and surrender.

It was like straight out of legends one hears about and Chant living it now. An even more welcome sight as Ness the droid rolled in, clicking and chirping concern for her partner.

“Ness!” Chant exclaimed with a newfound grin despite her battered appearance.

Meanwhile the crooks looked at one another and considered their options. Reluctantly they nodded back at Nara, dropping their blaster pistols. One of them, a woman with a shaved head and gray jumpsuit went behind Chant to cut her loose as the Knight demanded. Instead the thug hid behind Chant as a flesh shield and lifted a hidden blade from her sleeves in front of the pilot's neck.

“Throw down your weapons or I’ll slit this fishy’s throat.”

However the gang member failed to pay close attention to her hostage. Chant took full advantage of it, suddenly biting down hard on her captor’s knife hand, causing shaved head to cry out and release the knife to the floor. Subsequently Chant slammed her head backward into her enemy’s face. The bald woman fell back grasping her now bleeding and broken nose.

Her Nikto looked on with horror before suddenly shrieking out in pain as electric shock coursed through his body. He dropped face first with a thud. Behind the unconscious body proudly stood Ness with her electrical pike.

Nara didn't drop her saber or her blaster. She moved carefully towards the middle of the room, pushing the thugs back. She didn't want them sneaking around her, trying to surround her. Any that even so much as looked a certain way were rewarded with a quick swish of her blade near them, the soft noise of burning plasma rich in their ears. She started to kick blasters aside cautiously... not even seeing the woman with the shaved head.

As soon as she spoke, Nara pointed the blaster at her. But she needn't have worried, with Chant taking a bite out of her. Afterwards, they were left with two very sore, very stupid gang members and a bunch of disarmed ones. She smirked as she looked at Ness, standing so proudly.

"Your droid really cares about you a lot," she said to Chant, before turning her attention to the other thugs. "Down on your knees, now. I'm looking for the meds you stole from Jalath," she said to them, pacing in front of them. The saber still burning bright blue in front of them. She wouldn't actually use it on unarmed opponents who'd given up, but they didn't exactly need to know that.

After a tense few seconds, one of them looked at the ground and muttered something.

"Outside... in the blue crates..."

Nara smiled and then moved away, towards Chant. She knelt to pick up the knife and slashed the ropes quickly, finally freeing her from the chair. "You're lucky your little droid friend was trying to sneak in here at the same time as me," she told Chant, smirking back over at Ness. "I'm Nara."

In spite of the pain all over her body Chant smiled at Ness after the Jedi’s comment. “She’s the best.” The pilot said with no small amount of pride. Whistling an affirmative the astromech aimed her electric pike at the general direction of the goons in case they wanted to start trouble some more.

How did a Jedi get involved with all this? Not that I’m complaining right now. Chant’s mental question was soon answered as the Knight demanded the location of med supplies from the newly made captives to which one of them confessed rather swifty.

The sight of the energy blade was enthralling and blinding to say the least. Outside of watching holofilms and some documentaries she had never seen a lightsaber in use much less an actual Jedi. It was pretty incredible to say the least. Not so for the gangsters of course.

With eager anticipation Sindhu waited as the Jedi approached and cut her loose with the fallen knife. “Thanks.” She remarked with sincerity, rubbing her webbed hands before standing up. When told about how Ness and her met Chant nodded, believing the story. After her rescuer introduced herself the freelancer followed suit.

“Chant Sindhu at your service. Never thought to meet a Jedi in person especially in these circumstances.”

Nara smirked as Chant stood, nursing her webbed hands. "Not many people get to meet Jedi, unless they're in need or doing something wrong. Case in point," she said to her, pointing her thumb towards the thugs. They were starting to look very sorry for themselves.

She thought back to the compound, outside of the building. There'd been plenty of guards out there too. Maybe four, five? That was how many she'd seen when scoping out the place, but there could me more that she'd missed. Difficult. And if the meds were in the crates, then moving them sneakily wasn't going to be much of an option. Even the Force wasn't particularly subtle when it came to moving heavy objects.

"How are you feeling? Hope they didn't mess you up too much?" she asked Chant, reaching for her little satchel bag. "I've got a couple stims if you need a pick-me-up. I might need a little bit of a favour... if your resourceful droid could watch our prisoners for a while. With her excellent pike," Nara said, smiling at Ness.

"I think I'm going to need to clear out the rest of them before I call in the Jalathans to get their meds. I could do with some back-up," she asked Chant, slipping her blaster out of her belt. She flipped it, offering it up to her, grip first. "If you feel up to it."

In spite of the situation Chant couldn’t resist chuckling when the Knight pointed out the reasons people usually meet Jedi. “No kidding there.” She answered with a slight grin. For the pilot, finding some humor even in a tight spot keeps her somewhat sane.

Wincing from the bruises affecting her the Mon Calamari rubbed the side of the jaw. Asked about her condition she said. “Well I’m still standing somehow but yea some stims would be appreciated.” Grabbing the offered stims and starting the treatment, Chant listened to what Nara proposed.

Subsequently offered a blaster Chant glanced at her for a few moments before taking it with her freed hand. The pain in her began to numb for the time being as she inspected the weapon and set it on stun mode. Without further hesitation Chant aimed and fired stun bolts at each of the prisoners. They all fell unconscious, making Ness’ new job a lot easier.

“Normally Jedi I charge payment for favors like that but since you saved my life I’ll make an exception this time. C’mon let’s get started.”

Not wanting to stay in the cell any longer walked out, waiting for Nara to do the same. She glanced back at Ness who was now guarding the sleeping prisoners. “Stay safe old girl. We won’t be long.” Chant said with sincerity and was answered back a proud affirmative in Droidspeak by the astromech.

"Oh, lucky me. I'm honoured to get such a special discount," Nara snarked, raising her eyebrow. She might have pulled her face about shooting the thugs. She was pretty sure that the council would take a pretty dim view of stunning surrendering, disarmed combatants. She hadn't done it, but it still made her uneasy. Probably not worth worrying about, she thought. Save your concern for people who weren't about to torture someone some more. Besides, it was just a stun. They'll get over it.

Nara gave Ness a wave as she moved towards the door, saber still in hand. "You hold onto that droid. She's a keeper," she said to Chant, smiling as she tapped the pad. The door opened and Nara stepped through confidently, making her way through an empty room to a main hallway. A couple of guards stood there, talking casually. Their radios beeped on their belts. Nara knew she had to be quick.

Striding forwards, she moved as quickly as she could. One of the guards noticed her, marching towards them with her saber drawn. His face twisted in shock as he reached for his blaster. Nara prepped herself, holding the saber in front of her body, the blade guarding her front in a diagonal. She focused as hard and as quick as she could, pulling her free hand back before shoving it forwards, pushing as much energy as she could summon through the Force. It smacked right into the guard that faced her, ripping his blaster out of his hand as he flew straight back onto the floor.

"Drop it!" she told the other thug, as she heard a door open at the other end of the hallway. Oh kriff. I missed some.

“Oh she is indeed.” Chant replied with a smile while Ness whistled her gratitude for the praise. The pilot followed after her Jedi rescuer with the blaster in hand. It wasn’t too long before they entered the main hallway where other gangsters were supposed to be on sentry duty.

Her eyes narrowed at the sight of them, advancing behind Nara. Payback time. She thought just as the Jedi Knight ignited the blade once more. The guard who noticed was taken aback but then tried to reach for his weapon. Only to be shoved by the force.

Chant whistled, clearly impressed as Nara demanded their surrender. That admiration proved short-lived when the door on the other end, revealing two more. Acting on training the Mon Calamari immediately aimed and fired three stun bolts. The first two shots struck a Gotal in a blue suit who fell back unconscious. However, the last shot missed his Rodian partner who ducked and reached for his pistol.

Squeezing down the trigger Chant fired another stun bolt and this time the Rodian collapsed sideways hit in the center mass.
