Not sure if its best to have everything in one thread or make one for each type of questions but we will go with this one for now

So I have a few ideas for characters but my Star Wars knowledge is fairly poor so I am unable to really finalize stuff. I have read most stuff but I probably skimmed some parts so forgive me if any question is actually answered somewhere and I missed it

My first questions are about races: is there any race smaller than Yoda's that can have the force? Is things like physical abilities connected to the race and their size or can small races still be quite strong and fast (not counting force users)? And finally are things like race set in stone for characters or is there a way to change them after starting?

Would a Jedi have to start as a normal Knight or can they join/be in the Shadows or other subfactions straight away? Would a Jedi Knight get a standard ship or would I have to design one regardless if they were a Padawan or a Knight? Also can you have an NPC Padawan or Master?

Can you naturally have a basic force power or two without really training to them, or would you have to learn them overtime etc? How do you learn rarer powers and can you create your own (in character and out of it)? Also how is the force usually first manifested, or can it usually only be sensed by other force users?

Are certain Lightsaber colours/types restricted to certain factions/groups or in general, like Lightsaber pikes or dual lightsabers that fit together to make a double bladed one? Also what about new variations like a Lightsaber spear?

These questions are more about OOC stuff

Is there a limit on characters in general and in factions? For example could I have multiple Jedi characters or can I only have 1 character per faction

Can we use pictures and concepts from other series as inspiration/to show the idea in better detail? Or do they have to be copyright free?

On some people's characters I see skills with */stars and I can't seem to find really anything on them? Is this some kind of unofficial/optional thing just to help show what they are good at?

And last one, what is the best thing to do once my character is done? Find someone to roleplay with? Join a open one? Do a solo thread? etc.

Sorry if this is too many questions at once. If its easier someone can just start a PM with me and go through this and other questions lol

Sorry if this is too many questions at once. If its easier someone can just start a PM with me and go through this and other questions lol

I shall answer each question to the best of my ability.

  1. "is there any race smaller than Yoda's that can have the force? Is things like physical abilities connected to the race and their size or can small races still be quite strong and fast (not counting force users)? And finally are things like race set in stone for characters or is there a way to change them after starting?"

So, while Yoda's species are quite small, any organic being can be force sensitive. Droids (Robots) are the only ones who cannot be force-sensitive. Characters of some races such as Wookies or Trandoshans do have enhanced strength when compared to average humans. However, humans who are especially athletic/peak fitness could potentially stand up to them. Racial abilities are a case-by-case basis, but there are a few which are outright banned (Shapshifting to something non-humanoid, Lightsaber/blaster resistant skin, and resistance/immunity to force attacks.)

Finally, you cannot change your character's race... You could maybe preform a dark-side ritual to do so, but that would be a very difficult task/venture, and would be EXTREMELY uncommon.

  2. "Would a Jedi have to start as a normal Knight or can they join/be in the Shadows or other subfactions straight away? Would a Jedi Knight get a standard ship or would I have to design one regardless if they were a Padawan or a Knight? Also can you have an NPC Padawan or Master?"

Jedi can choose to either start as a Padawan or Knight, but can also start as a Shadow or Rebel ect. You could probably start with an NPC padawan, but the master would be more subject to staff scrutiny due to the power level. Personal ships can be either taken from the tech database or designed personally.

  3. "Can you naturally have a basic force power or two without really training to them, or would you have to learn them overtime etc? How do you learn rarer powers and can you create your own (in character and out of it)? Also how is the force usually first manifested, or can it usually only be sensed by other force users?"

Yes. You can be an untrained force user and use the force on instinct. This will be far less effective than having training however. Rarer force power can be learned as you character increases in rank or as you character RPs learning said abilities from either a teacher or holocron. To my knowledge, the force isn't really something that first manifests like some kind of super power, it's something someone is born with and will pretty much always have. It expresses itself in different ways however, usually small feats of telekinesis as a child/baby is the first sign.

  4. Are certain Lightsaber colours/types restricted to certain factions/groups or in general, like Lightsaber pikes or dual lightsabers that fit together to make a double bladed one? Also what about new variations like a Lightsaber spear?

Each lightsaber color means something different about it's wielder. I recommend watching a Youtube video on it, because it would be a very long explanation here. As for the the various types of lightsabers, they are not exclusive to just one faction. Both the Jedi and Sith have double-bladed users. New variations would require a tech write-up.

  5. "Is there a limit on characters in general and in factions? For example could I have multiple Jedi characters or can I only have 1 character per faction"

    No Limits.

  6. "Can we use pictures and concepts from other series as inspiration/to show the idea in better detail? Or do they have to be copyright free?"

Other series are fine. Most people around here prefer concept art, OC art, or rl Face Claims (Though I am personally not a fan of RL face claims)

  7. "On some people's characters I see skills with */stars and I can't seem to find really anything on them? Is this some kind of unofficial/optional thing just to help show what they are good at?"

Skills/Ability scores are little things people like to add for flavor. It details a character's strengths and flaws really. For the purposes of PvP, these do not really matter.

  8. "what is the best thing to do once my character is done? Find someone to roleplay with? Join a open one? Do a solo thread? etc."

I personally recommend either just making an Open, or signing up for a faction mission thread.

Clarification on the lightsaber colors, they can be any color you want and have whatever significance you want. There is no hard rule saying a color says something about your character. It's entirely up to you, if you want your character's lightsaber color to have some significance, it can, if you don't then it can just be arbitrary.

Jedi can choose to either start as a Padawan or Knight, but can also start as a Shadow or Rebel ect.

@Ziosa
Just a correction here. For Jedi to officially become part of the Rebel Alliance, they either need to be hand picked by a Rebel Council member, or they can apply and prove themselves capable/trustworthy enough to be part of their operations and/or lead troops. The Rebels are very careful and secretive, and with the recent history of Jedi going off-the-wall, some precautions were put in place to protect the Alliance.

To learn more read: The Rebel Alliance.

People may start characters off as regular Rebels at the lowest rank though, then work their way up. The lowest rank basically has no knowledge of rebel operations or assets. They only know what they've seen or been part of, or get invited to. They can also go out on their own, hit imperial assets, recruit other (NPC or PC) rebels, etc, etc, and start earning a name for themselves/working way up the ranks to earn more trust within the Alliance.

Finally, you cannot change your character's race... You could maybe preform a dark-side ritual to do so, but that would be a very difficult task/venture, and would be EXTREMELY uncommon.

Is there any fairly prominent species smaller than Yoda's? Or would I need to make my own species? Also I guess I won't be changing the character's race after making them lol

  • Jedi can choose to either start as a Padawan or Knight, but can also start as a Shadow or Rebel ect. You could probably start with an NPC padawan, but the master would be more subject to staff scrutiny due to the power level. Personal ships can be either taken from the tech database or designed personally.
So if I want a master it would have to be another player's character? Is there a thread or something that gives me some options for a small personal ship?

  • Yes. You can be an untrained force user and use the force on instinct. This will be far less effective than having training however. Rarer force power can be learned as you character increases in rank or as you character RPs learning said abilities from either a teacher or holocron. Can anyone who knows the power teach or do they have to have some kind of criteria/be very good at it? How do you find holocrons?

How many people follow the lightsaber color means something? I will probably just follow what the majority of people do

Is there any sort of list of common ones people have I can use as inspiration ? Or would there just be so many that keeping a list is impractical lol

Finally thank you @Where @Wit and @Lilith for answering my questions, I'm sure these won't be the last

  1. "Is there any fairly prominent species smaller than Yoda's? Or would I need to make my own species? Also I guess I won't be changing the character's race after making them lol"

Good question... I think Yoda's species is technically the smallest but there are also Ewoks and Patitites. You could make a custom species.

  2. "So if I want a master it would have to be another player's character? Is there a thread or something that gives me some options for a small personal ship?"

If you would like a master, most encourage it being another Player Character, but I think you could have an NPC master if they are not used for PvP. As for a personal ship, feel free to take a look here.

  3. "Can anyone who knows the power teach or do they have to have some kind of criteria/be very good at it? How do you find holocrons?"

Finding holocrons can happen naturally in the RP. You could go on an adventure for one, or you could barrow one from the jedi library, ect. Anyone who knows a technique can probably train others in it.

  4. "How many people follow the lightsaber color means something? I will probably just follow what the majority of people do"

I'm not sure, but personally I follow the cannon meanings.

  5. "Is there any sort of list of common ones people have I can use as inspiration ? Or would there just be so many that keeping a list is impractical lol"

Uh, so the general attributes most people use are D&D style: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma. Skills can be just about anything. These are just a general idea, as you do not have to do stats if you don't feel the need to.

Thank you for the Patitites suggestion, but they are not quite what I was looking; custom species it is. Aside from the guide in the species section, is there anything else that might help me with this? Such as some good examples. Also would I need to create a planet for the species too?
  • If you would like a master, most encourage it being another Player Character, but I think you could have an NPC master if they are not used for PvP. As for a personal ship, feel free to take a look here.
As long as they aren't restricted to a faction or anything, can I use any ship (and probably general tech later on) here without needing to ask permission?

Again thanks for the help @Where

You can create a species that dwells on an existing planet, or you can create a planet in addition to the race.

You can choose a faction tech ship if you are of that faction. You do not need to ask permission for unrestricted ships, and don't need permission to restricted ships either. You just can't have something absurd to start out with, like a corvette or battleship or something.
And np.

I have (hopefully) only these last few questions

How does money and assets work? Can you do a story thread thing and as long as its not overpowered 'find' something there that you want to use/buy? Or is there some kind of other system?

So credits are a loose concept here. Characters do not have a set amount of money. Assets represent things you character has acquired over time through role play or during character creation. Basically, if you want your character to get something new, you will have to have an in-character explanation as to how they got that stuff.

I see, so as long as it makes sense they can 'acquire' anything

I will probably have more questions at some point but for now thank you for answering
