Child of the Force
Born in the planet Sorgan, Maiko was the youngest among seven siblings and the only biological child of Jeritt and Armina Sigur, proprietors of the local village's only common house. Despite being raised in a household whose children were mostly comprised of adopted individuals of varying species, Maiko and his older siblings grew up equally cherished and loved by his wonderful parents. Growing up surrounded by brothers and sister not by blood but by bond, sensing the strength of their connection and love for each other was Maiko's first foray into the Force at age six.
Maiko's childhood was rife with love and happiness. He was content with what he had – a loving family and a supportive community who never shunned him for his peculiar abilities. He was seven when he first manifested another gift the Force had blessed him with, using his powers to help one of his older siblings when a wild and disgruntled loth-cat had bitten her on the leg. Maiko, in tears and hands pressed on the wound, wanted nothing but for his sister to be alright and stop hurting. The wound stopped bleeding, the broken skin mending before their eyes. The phenomenon left him exhausted, and he barely heard one of the villagers who witnessed the scene claim that Maiko might possibly be a Force-sensitive.
It was difficult to find someone to teach young Maiko about his newfound abilities. Sorgan was a small planet on the vast Outer Rim, and it wasn't typically frequented by wayfarers, let alone the legendary Jedi who were known to possess the same abilities Maiko had. But his family was supportive despite not knowing how the Force worked, scouring every bit of information about the Jedi they could find. Jeritt and Armina taught him to meditate while his older siblings pitched in the ideas of moving things with his mind and furthering his healing abilities.
But talent without proper training would not get Maiko far. At the age of fifteen, Harrik (eldest adopted child of the Sigur family and a Mikkian) offered to take Maiko offworld in search of the Jedi. The plan did not come to fruition, however, since a traveling Jedi Knight had come to Sorgan on a mission instead. The Knight, a male Togrutan, had been tasked to search for Force-sensitive individuals to take to Ajan Kloss to help them train – with consent from the family and the individual themselves. Supported by his family and community, and wanting to train and improve his skills as well, Maiko willingly went with the Jedi.
Tragedy on Ajan Kloss
Maiko's arrival on Ajan Kloss was met with joy and acceptance. Being the youngest child, he was overjoyed to be surrounded by younglings who looked up to him like an older brother. The Knight who brought him to the temple even encouraged him to send messages to his family to maintain connection with them, something the teenager was truly grateful for. The Togrutan even mentioned that he might make Maiko his padawan. But as much as he wanted to be a Jedi who fought for peace, Maiko's intent was to be a trained healer. He wished to fight, yes, but only if push came to a shove.
Tragedy, the first to come in Maiko's life, came with the arrival of the Sith on Ajan Kloss. He had only been on tje temple for three weeks when the Darksiders came, bringing with them destruction and death. A pacifist and a hopelessly kind young man by nature, the death of many younglings, padawans, and Jedi broke Maiko's heart. The Jedi Knight who had taken him in was not spared, fighting to give him and a few younglings precious time to escape and dying by the hands of one of the Sith.
Never had Maiko felt so helpless during the sacking of the temple. He could offer nothing but comfort to the younglings who were with him as they escaped the planet. But even the words came out broken and hollow, the event shaking him to his very core.
Maiko was currently staying on the Jedi temple on Yavin, still reeling from the tragedy he had experienced firsthand on Ajan Kloss.
Personality
Patience is a virtue, and it is a virtue that Maiko possesses in spades. He is honest to a fault, an awful liar, and a very forgiving kid. Maiko is an introvert, preferring to keep to himself but will not and can never turn away good company. He hates confrontations but is willing to stand up for what is right. A gentle and quiet kid, he values life above all else and will never turn away from those who are in need.
Skills
The Mediator: Maiko tends to avoid any and all forms of confrontations. He will, more often than not, step in between opposing parties and have them sit down and talk. He is a great listener and an understanding kid, preferring to hear both sides before pointing out – gently – where each party went wrong before urging the opposing parties to make peace with one another.
The Healer: Before being taken to Ajan Kloss, Maiko has already been attempting to learn how to use the Force to heal injuries since he's seven. But without a proper trainer, the skill still needs more room for growth and improvement.
Mastery of the Force: Under Master Alex's teachings, along with those he has learned from other Knights and Masters during missions, Maiko's grasp of the Force evolved from unsophisticated to that of confident grace. Having taught that the Force is something to work alongside with, the Padawan treats it more as an ally than a tool to be used. He has grown from acting upon instinct on how to use the Force to working with it, letting its will guide Maiko and the powers it afforded him.
