  • So, there's something the Blackened jet empire members are known for...Swoop bikes, they love 'em, and they usually are the best at them. So, you're going to take part of their latest swoop bike race, you're going to proudly announce that you are under the employ of Gareth Gin of the Zaa Fenn and that you're going to beat their sorry asses. The objective is simple, I want at least one of you ending in first place and humilliating the rest of them. Violence against the Jet Empire kriffers is not only advisable, but also an objective, winning isn't enough, kill, hurt and throw as many people off their swoop bikes as possible, okay? Blasters might not be allowed during the race, but you can get creative.

Kara Lok had received a personal invite for this race. Not to participate, mind you, but to attend out of some weird sign of respect by the Blackened Jets. Some time ago she had made a deal with these Barabels they both profited from and with the Zaa Fenn Crime Family being solidly on top in the Coruscant foodchain these days, they didn't want to risk the insult of not inviting one of their ringleaders. As far as ringleaders went, Kara was definitely one of the more succesful ones at that. She had her own crew of impressive gunslingers and many skilled mercenaries on call, but the thing that most impressed the locals was the talk about her scamming the Sith Empire out of ten million credits like it was nothing. A small strike for them killing Preef Callo, but a strike nonetheless.

Gareth Gin, one of the original Zaa Fenn family members under Preef Callo and Marissa Hesse, wanted to hurt the Barabels that ran the Blackened Jet Empire and take over their turf. Kara, ofcourse, complied and hired a skilled pilot she happened to have the contact info for. The swoop with which he could enter was the best credits could buy and enhanced by Zaa Fenn mechanics. Needless to say that even a moderately skilled swooper could get on the podium with this one. That, however, wasn't the goal here. Well, not just, so it was also outfitted with mean spikes to the sides as "decorative ornaments" and hidden underneath the Devaronian's seat would be a stun baton. Because why leave anything to chance?

Kara was waiting for Pellios just outside the venue. One large weequay bodyguard flanked her, courtesy of the Lower Level Bouncers (LLB), as she lazily dangled a stim between her lips. "He's late," she complained to her bodyguard, "Gareth is gonna kill me if this guy is slow as kriff."

Crix lit up a cigarette as he turned onto the avenue. The venue was just down the street, but his appointment to pilot on the job was a bit of a shock. He had a feeling something was up, but fortune favors the bold, and he was about to take a risk and bust some skulls. Dolan wasn't a loyalist. He was a part of the Five because that was the fastest route to his revenge.

He spotted a small cadre of mean mugs and assumed that's who he was supposed to be meeting. There was irritation in the air as he approached and he didn't like the glares he was getting from a few of the thugs behind the woman, who he assumed, was none other than Kara Lok.

As he stepped forward to introduce himself he was cut off and barred from coming any closer. Crix smiled and held up his hands in mock surrender, "Easy fellas, we're all friends here. I'm Crix Dolan. The pilot hired by Gareth Gin."

He cocked an eyebrow at the nearest menacing weequay and shrugged.

"I can leave if the position's been filled."

Crix casually rested his right hand on his RSFK as his left returned his cigarette to his mouth. The tension between him and the thugs became palpable as the scene drew out.

"Your call."

Nobody moved. The guard shot a glace at Kara. It was clear she was the one in charge and Crix locked eyes with her as he awaited her response. He was here on Syndicate business, if there'd been a mix up it wasn't on him, and he wasn't going to be treated like some scrub.

She had barely uttered her complaint when her weequay bodyguard suddenly came into action to block someone from coming too close to her. A scoundrel, a nobody, definitely not the Devaronian smuggler and ace pilot that had rumored to have been part of Preef Callo's Nar Shaddaa crew. Kriff, Kara didn't have time for random scoundrels getting too close to tick off the LLB. Best she commed Pellios, hear his excuse-

"[...] pilot hired by Gareth Gin"

Kara snapped her attention towards the scoundrel and tried to size him up before the weequay looked at her for directions. What was Gareth playing at? A Devaronian racer was a statement. People here would remember one of their rare -often misunderstood- species racing and smacking around Barabels. It would have been like the devil itself came at those lizards. Even if he lost the race. But a human? Utterly forgettable.

"Wait," Kara nodded to her bodyguard and he stepped aside to allow the newcomer some space, "You raced before?"

There was something utterly dreadful about having a scoundrel declare he raced for the White Lion of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family, the biggest and most powerful family in the Crymorah Syndicate, and then losing so badly it would take Kara months to repair their planetside reputation.

The tension was still thick and Crix was beginning to think he might actually have to pull his weapon, but just before it came to that Kara stepped in.

Yup. Ran the circuit on Nar Shaddaa before the zombies. Called me the Devil from Denon.

His stint in swoop racing hadn’t lasted long. It had been a means to an end, but he’d excelled at it in the season before the AMS outbreak.

Before that, I raced speeders in The Works here on Coruscant.

Racing had been the easiest way for him to make extra credits between jobs. He was at home on the track. Having a singular purpose and relying solely on himself and his machine was the only thing that helped him forget his purpose for joining the syndicates in the first place...

He knew his mission was to send a message and Crix was confident he could do just that.

You gonna let me get acquainted with the swoop?

"Devil from Denon, eh?" Kara said with a smirk, figuring that that's where the miscommunication had originated from. She was meeting with the devil, not a devil, which was a common nickname for the Devaronian species. Well, if Crix won races before then he should be able to do it here as well.

Kara extended her hand to her new champion, "I'm Kara Lok. Nice to meet you, Crix Dolan."

"Swoop's this way, boss-" her bodyguard gestured for them to follow her after he seemingly got an okay on his own communicator. It was time for the racers to warm up their engines, stretch their muscles and inject the necessary stims. This wasn't childplay. This was professional swooping.

"When no ones looking," Kara told Crix once they had their top-of-the-line enhanced swoop in sight, "check under the seat. Use it one the stretch between third and fourth corner. I'll make sure the camera is disabled there." Crix probably knew better than anyone that playing dirty was business as usual in the swoop game. Nar Shaddaa was probably worst of all. He'd get the message, she was sure of it.

"Any questions before I go talk bets with the Barabel bigshots?"
