Imperial Security Bureau

I.S.B

Information

The Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) was founded during the rise of the former Sith Empire to act as the central intelligence, espionage, and law enforcement agency governing all of Imperial Space. After the Sith Order was summarily ejected from the Empire the Bureau was reformed to streamline its ranks and to reevaluate its operations in light of the expulsion of its former Sith members.

Every planet within the Empire has security forces and local law enforcement that manage regional affairs. Under the reforms outlined above, the ISB has streamlined its structure and placed all local law enforcement under its thumb, making them extensions of the ISB and answerable to its leadership and dictats. This integration allows for more seamless communication between law enforcement officials.

The Bureau is also responsible gathering intelligence within and without the Empire. Agents monitor Imperial communications and activities, and keep up-to-date and accurate census information on Imperial citizens to ensure law and order is maintained within the Empire. It also controls a large number of spies who integrate into the societies of the Empire's enemies to keep Imperial leadership abreast of threats to the national interest.

Recruitment & Composition

After the Sith purge, almost every member of the ISB is non-Force sensitive. All former Sith were revoked of their clearance and access to intelligence and the ISB is thorough about vetting any members of the organization who may be Force-sensitive, including subjecting prospective agents to a midi-chlorian test to weed out Sith attempting to re-infiltrate the organization undercover. There are also significant background checks for those non-Force sensitives who intend to join the organization.

All law enforcement officials across the Empire are considered to be an arm of the ISB.

Structure & Ranks

As before the Purge, the Imperial Security Bureau is divided into branches, though the old branches have been consolidated and streamlined for more effective management of personnel and resources.

Each branch of the ISB is led by a Supervisor who reports directly to the Director of the entire organization.

Imperial Peacekeepers
Rm9WPAS.png

The Imperial Peacekeepers (IPs) are the Imperial equivalent to the Sector Rangers. They act as local and sector law enforcement, ensuring that Imperial law is upheld and that lawbreakers are removed from the equation.

They have clearance to access Imperial criminal registries (which includes data on former Sith) and census data to carry out investigations and arrests should the situation call for it. They are also responsible for monitoring potential seditious or treasonous activities at the local and system levels, reporting their sector activities higher up the chain-of-command at the end of every standard month.

There are no Force-sensitive members of the Peacekeepers and midi-chlorian tests are administered before one is employed by this branch.

The ranks of the Peacekeepers are as follows:
  • Officer
  • Detective (trainee PC rank)
  • Sergeant
  • Lieutenant (starting PC rank)
  • Captain
  • Commander (second PC rank)
  • Supervisor (third PC rank, branch leader)
  • Director (Sub-Faction Leader, Imperial Council)

Imperial Intelligence
Bu7NLlk.png

The Imperial Intelligence division is responsible for the jobs the ISB is more traditionally known for. Intelligence officers monitor communications, HoloNet feeds, and the activities of both the Imperial military and outside enemy forces to allow the Empire a robust response to threats foreign and domestic.

Low-ranking officers are either assigned a planet and work closely with the Peacekeepers on monitoring, or are the spies that infiltrate enemy governments and structures to report back to the Empire. Higher ranking officers can be given jurisdiction over entire systems or sectors once they have proven themselves.

Because of the highly classified and sensitive information they are charged with handling, Imperial Intelligence strictly vets its employees, dolling out rigorous background checks, and midi-chlorian tests to ensure their officers are competent and trustworthy. There are few Force-sensitive members of Intelligence, as their loyalty to the Empire above all else must be absolute.

The ranks of Intelligence are as follows:
  • Officer
  • Agent (trainee PC rank)
  • Sergeant
  • Lieutenant (starting PC rank)
  • Captain
  • Overseer (second PC rank)
  • Supervisor (third PC rank, branch leader)
  • Director (Sub-Faction Leader, Imperial Council)

Blackout Fleet
lBzl4F2.png

Blackout Fleet is a holdover from the old structure of the ISB, acting as the organization's naval wing. Blackout Fleet acts independently of the Imperial Navy, serving only the interests of the ISB. This branch consists of freighters, yachts, shipping agencies, surveillance vessels, and rapid response squadrons that handle anything the Empire needs dealt with discreetly.

Many members are smugglers, pirates, privateers, and others who do their business in the space lanes and market places of the galaxy, going where supply and demand leads them. Once recruited, they serve as informants, gathering information and sending it back to the ISB for analysis. Others are transfers from the Navy who assist in traditional fleet operations within Imperial Space.

There is more room for Force-user participation within the Blackout Fleet. However, Force-sensitive members are still heavily vetted and highly scrutinized.

The ranks of the Blackout Fleet are as follows:
  • Officer
  • Ensign (trainee PC rank)
  • Sergeant
  • Lieutenant (starting PC rank)
  • Captain
  • Commander (second PC rank)
  • Supervisor (third PC rank, branch leader)
  • Director (Sub-Faction Leader, Imperial Council)

Imperial Knights

The Imperial Knights are the Force-sensitive branch of the Empire proposed by Altair Din and placed under the jurisdiction of the ISB until such a time that Force-users regain the trust of the public. They serve as the loyal enforcers of Imperial will, showing up whenever a more forceful hand in law enforcement is required.

They are also the organization charged with dealing with other hostile Force-users. Originally conceived as as an organization to protect the public from vengeful and rogue Sith, the Imperial Knights also handle the Empire's relationship with the Jedi Order and other Force cults across the galaxy. They are also composed of many reformed Sith.

The Imperial Knights have limited ISB clearances to access the same level of materials as an average Peacekeeper. However, unlike the Sith of old, they cannot hold military rank of political rank adjacent to their position in the Knights. Higher level Knights may be granted higher clearances as they gain the trust of the ISB leadership.

Philosophy

The Imperial Knights do not operate off a code like the Jedi and the Sith. Their loyalty is to the Empire before even the Force and they put Imperial law and order where most Jedi and Sith put the codes of their religion.

Because the organization wants to prevent the former treatment of Imperials under the Sith, Imperial Knights are never allowed to use or fall to the dark side of the Force. If a Knight falls to the dark side, they are to be brought back to the Light or removed from their office immediately.

While the Knights follow the light side of the Force, they do not do so in the same religious manner as the Jedi. Their service is to the Empire and its citizens, not to the Force more broadly or out of any responsibility towards the wider galaxy. Their most noteworthy difference from the Jedi Order is that they view the Force more as a tool than an ally and resist fully surrender to the Light as equally bad as full surrender to the Dark.

Equipment & Assets

The Imperial Knights are based on Raxus and have been allowed the use of a building in the ISB complex of Raxus City to purpose as their temple.

All Knights are issued a standard set of red armor, complete with a black cape, and a lightsaber containing a purified crystal from confiscated Sith lightsabers. As a result, all Imperial Knights use a standard issue white lightsaber. Other colors and lightsaber variants are looked-down upon and discouraged.

Ranks & Structure

The Imperial Knights are lead by a Commandant that serves as the Force-sensitive head of the other Knights. However, as the organization is currently under scrutiny, the Commandant currently reports to the ISB Director as their direct superior.

The rest of the ranks are as follows:
  • Squire (trainee PC rank)
  • Imperial Knight (starting PC rank)
  • Knight-Master (second PC rank)
  • Commandant (third PC rank, Imperial Knight's leader)
  • Director (Sub-Faction Leader, Imperial Council)

The Imperial Security Bureau is based on Raxus, having moved its headquarters off of Serenno to fully break from the Sith. The roster is kept here.

The Road so Far...

Asera Valfreyja, who sometimes went by the shortened name Sera, is a Force-sensitive Human-Diathim female and a citizen of the Empire serving as a member of the Imperial Knights. A former Champion of the Sith Order, Asera's faith in the Order was deeply shattered when her fellow Sith husband was responsible for the death of their son. She swore vengeance and eagerly abandoned her ties to the Order. Later, when the Sith were expelled from the Empire, she picked up her blade again to become an Imperial Knight.

Asera was born on the moons of Iego, the rare union of a Human man and a Diathim woman. Born with her mother's Force-sensitivity and her father's temper and hunger for battle (for he was of Delucalian descent), she seemed destined to join one of the Force orders. Her birth on Iego's moons, themselves within the Free Worlds Alliance, seemingly ensured she would become enshrined in the Jedi Order. However, her temper and battle lust drew her to the Sith and they to her. What became of her parents, or her younger brother, is unknown. However, by her early teens, she had already become a member of the Sith Order.

Sera met a man and fell in love at a young age during her Sith training. When the two had barely become of age, they rushed into coupling and bore a son together. But as their family grew, her husband's protectiveness drove him to seek the power to see the future through the dark side in order perceive and avoid any threats that might befall his family. Instead, he saw visions of his son rising to be a stronger and more powerful Sith than he, eventually toppling him. So, he murdered their son in what he saw as an act of preservation. Driven mad with grief and rage, he and Sera dueled to a standstill, their marriage broken in the battle. Since that day, she has sworn revenge on him and all Sith — believing their religion to be the source of her husband's maladies and the death of her son.

As the hybrid child of a human man and a Diathim woman, Sera has traits of both species. Her appearance is mostly human save her height, which is above average for a human female. From her mother, she inherited Diathim wings, a lithe figure, and a hollow bone structure that enables her to fly on worlds whose gravity will permit it. She also possess a combination of her mother and father's eyes, gold and brown respectively, which have melted into a sharp amber. Though she bares the beauty of the Diathim, she wears the hair and dulled black face paint of a Delucalian warrior in honor of her father.

Imperial Knights

The Imperial Knights, or the New Order, are a recent invention, the birth of which was necessitated by the fall of the Sith Order and Warmaster Altair Din's Declaration of a New Order. They serve as the primary Force-using order of the new Empire, replacing the exiled Lords of the Sith. The Knights are under the formal jurisdiction of the Imperial Security Bureau (I.S.B.) until such a time that Force users regain the trust of the public.

The Imperial Knights are an extension of Imperial law enforcement, acting as enforcers of law and order and particularly specializing in dealing with hostile Force-using organizations like the Sith and Jedi Orders. Unlike the aforementioned orders, they are not strictly a religious organization, devoting themselves entirely to the Empire, its survival, and its stability. Unlike the Sith Order before them, Knights hold no government or military authority, either—acting strictly within the realm of law enforcement (though some can be chosen to serve as diplomats when the situation calls for it).

As a result, the Imperial Knights have limited ISB clearances to access the same level of materials as an average Peacekeeper.

Philosophy & Training

NNR5TYL.jpg
As an organization whose first generation is composed of mostly former and reformed members of the Sith Order, the Imperial Knights follow the dark side of the Force. However, their use of the dark side is not a religious component of their identity as it is for the Sith or even the Nightsisters. Instead, the Knights use the dark side as a tool to enforce Imperial law and the will of their superiors. This means that they cannot use the darker aspects of the Force, such as Sith magicks and alchemy, nor advanced techniques like lightning. However, the use of the dark side does allow them to use force and be firm and harsh when the situation requires it.

The Imperial Knights do not follow a Code. Their loyalty is not to the Force. Their guidance and accountability comes from Imperial law and the words and orders of the Empire's leaders.

The first generation of Knights came from former Sith who renounced their Order after the Empire expelled them from its borders. They swore away their crimson sabers and adopted loyalty to the Empire above all else. They then began to train a new generation of squires to protect the order, selecting young Force-sensitives from Imperial census data to be trained on Raxus Secundus.

Squires are trained in investigative and diplomatic techniques to aid with their law enforcement work. They are also put through rigorous physical and mental training, allowing them to fight on par with other Force-sensitive warriors and resist their mental probes. Unlike in both the Jedi and Sith Orders, Imperial Knights are discouraged from displaying too much individualism during their training, and, as a result, are issued a standard lightsaber hilt at the beginning of their training. They are then directed the crystal caves on worlds like Dantooine to complete the saber with a kyber crystal of their own — though most tend to choose orange and yellow crystals.

Knights are also issued a standard set of red armor complete with maroon hoods and capes to identify their station. Higher ranks are issued violet and silver armors respectively to distinguish them from ordinary Knights. Additionally, Knights can wear protective headgear to add a degree of anonymity when their work requires it.

Imperial Knight Ranks & Structure

Xw4cfO3.png

Squire (Trainee Rank)

Equivalent to a Jedi Padawan or a Sith Acolyte.

Squires are newly recruited Force-sensitives who have not undergone any previous Force training. The Imperial Knights recruit young, starting at the age of puberty for a given species. Unlike the Jedi and Sith, which are more open about the ages of their trainees, all Squires must either promote to Knight by the age of 20 (or the age of maturity in their respective species) or be expelled from the Order.

Imperial Knight (1st PC rank)

A fully trained Knight. Imperial Knights are every bit as competent and skilled as a Jedi Knight or a Sith Champion. They have mastered the art of using their lightsabers and are daunting Force-users in their own right. Knights are authorized to begin taking missions on their own and may also begin training a Squire of their own. Imperial Knights make up the bulk of the New Order.

Knight-Captain

Knight-Captains are the seasoned, veteran warriors of the Order and are considered Masters of their craft. The dark side is their tool and it bends to their wills with ease. Knight-Captains are trusted with more difficult missions that often put them directly in harms way. They are also trusted with leadership in the Order and their words are to be treated as orders to Knights and Squires. Though they are few in number, their prowess should never be underestimated.

Lord Commander

The Lord Commander is the Force-sensitive leader of the Imperial Knights, equivalent to the Dark Lord of the Sith or the Jedi Grand Master. However, the Lord Commander currently answers to the Director of the ISB until such a time as Force-users are trusted again in Imperial Space. Despite this, their word is law among the other Knights, superceded only by the Director of the ISB and the Emperor (or whomever the present leader of the Empire is) themselves. Their power in the Force is only matched by their loyalty to the Empire they serve; and their lightsaber is the spear that pierces the hearts of the Empire's enemies.

———

Note: Because our iteration of the Imperial Knights was the creation of former and reformed Sith, please be advised that they will not exactly resemble the organization from Star Wars Legends. They are the creation of roleplaying here on the site and will continue to grow as such.
