"For the love of the force its just Maru"
Maru was born to a simple family of farmers on an agriculture based planet he was one of many children neither the youngest nor the oldest. His family lived simply and aside from the usual squabbles of too many children having to share too little a space his childhood was a simple happy time. His talent and connection to the force however marked him and before long a Jedi recruiter arrived. The child had no interest in what they offered but his parents felt that with the weight of his gifts they could become dangerous to himself if not properly trained and nurtured so they convinced him to go with the Jedi.
Feeling abandoned and betrayed, the child did not adapt well at first to his new home at the temple, he was spiteful and often played pranks and tricks on his caretakers and fellow younglings. While he exasperated many, one knight who often worked with the younglings saw that the boys actions were not of malice and that he was simply a child who was hurting. She spent time with him creating punishments and tasks that in time would become his forms of meditation and leisure. She spoke to him and worked with him helping him move on from the grief of leaving his family and was a voice of compassion that helped the young boy develop. By the time he was ready to be a padawan she had become a master and she took him under her wing as their lessons developed and grew.
She helped him learn his passion and calling within the order finding his gifts and praising him to build confidence and skill but also ready as ever to remind the boy that he was still a padawan and she his mentor. He in turn saw her at times a warden ever vigilant for his clever tricks and pranks and also as the true epitome of what it meant to be a Jedi, an ideal to strive for though at times such goals felt impossible. Some within the order grew a bit concerned as his outbursts as a child had earned him some infamy and they worried that should he form such a close bond to his master that when she passed or he graduated that he might revert to the petulant child he had once been and paving an easy rode to follow to the darkside.
Those fears came to pass as old age claimed his master and to the shock and delight of his doubters the padawan grieved and grew again walking the path of the Jedi even after her passing and graduating to Knight shortly after her passing.
Now entering his 40th year Maru represents the Jedi as best he can, still a free spirit and prankster, a child at heart but underneath that silly grin and wild eyes he is true a Jedi as his master had been. He found his calling within the Justicars working within the sect as a recruiter bringing in more force sensitives and counseling those who need his help. And of course going after those who have been led astray. Despite the title and nature of his work he still makes an effort to be available to those in need be them struggling younglings or even padawans and knights who need someone to speak or train with. Often while home he works on lightsabers and holocrons and other puzzles and even toys for the younglings as an artisan branching out to yet another subset of his chosen sect.
Maru is a childish playful sort who loves a good laugh and a good trick. He adores puzzles and games, often making them for others to enjoy as well. His methods of meditation which are a vital part of his regular homestays are a mix of traditional and unorthodox. He spends time in a small garden growing a simple plant that many consider a weed and regular sparring and saber practice as both bring him both peace and joy. While currently a Knight without a set Padawan he does work with any and everyone who seeks him out offering his skills in saber crafting and training, counseling those who are struggling, or as simple as a friend to go out for an outing. While familiar relations are frowned upon he considers himself a brother to all of the Jedi “Family” within the temple. A bad habit that even his master couldn't shake from his childhood is his tendency to add the title “brother” and “sister” to many of the Jedi he knows and works with. Though he tries very hard to only use the title Master when addressing those of a higher rank.
Unlike some who devote themselves purely to saber combat or force powers Maru has found a blend of the two using one to supplement the other to create a balance of the two
Force powers: Maru much prefers powers that are internally focused rather than externally especially powers that are to influence the wills of others. As part of his preferred style he is adept at channeling the force into his body to increase his speed and strength as well as reaction times. While influencing others is off the table for him he doesn't have an issue using the force to better sense the intentions of those around him which is another ability he uses liberally at the temple to help find those who are needing guidance.
Saber combat: He focuses on form VI both Shien and Djem So the former of which was the same style his master used. Shien’s focus on personal defense especially against blasters and in duels limiting his opponents options allows him to wear out opponents letting fights drag on if able to. Once his opponent has begun to tire he shifts his stance to Djem So and goes on offense. Due to the concept of overwhelming force and his previous history of outbursts some masters were worried of his learning the style. But under the instructions of his master to “Strike without malice” he is a skilled practitioner of the art without the drawbacks of letting his anger into his attacks.
Tràkata: Another unpopular style that Maru has learned and integrated into his saber combat was Tràkata or the art of deactivating the lightsaber blade mid combat. While it is a deceptive tactic he focuses on using it to spare lives rather then take time, due to the nature of his saber Maru can convert fatal blows into non lethal strikes to disable opponents rather then end them and due to this distinction has been allowed to continue his practice.
Technical skills: As an investigator and recruiter Maru has had to learn how to manipulate computers and systems in order to complete missions and tasks. These skills translated well in terms of figuring out speeders and and ships as well.
Artisan: Maru loves creating puzzles and games as well as helping those figure out both what style of saber combat best suits them and then helping them create a lightsaber to meet their
