MARKETS: Coruscanti Senators remarks cause Core Stock Market worries.
Businesses have expressed concerns over the comments made by Coruscanti Senator Drast that Coruscant ‘does not have the resources to fix its own problems’. In comments made in a broadcasted session of the Galactic Senate, the Senator suggested Coruscant, a significant player in the Core, required ‘time to heal’.
Yet concerns around resources have sparked worries across the Core Stock Market.
Some businesses have stated that a ‘resources shortage’ from Coruscant could impact their sales, driving down profitability ‘across the core economy’, which Coruscant is a significant component of. Other core worlds have tried stabilising the market, yet the worries persist, with the Bank of the Core signalling it will review interest rates when its board meets later this week to reassure savers and investors.
Coruscant, which has a GDP that dwarfs entire systems, is one of the largest economic contributors to the galactic core and, indeed, much of the inner rims' internal marketplace. A planetwide megacity with a titanic population, the planet boasts a vast purchasing power. Government and private sector spending enable the planet to dominate local and regional supply chains.
The statement by the Senator for Coruscant has been branded as ‘irresponsible’ by some business leaders and opposition groups on Coruscant itself.
However, Trina Kalist, Senator for Kuat, has distanced herself from the comments saying, ' It is critical to understand that the Senator of Coruscant's statement is not a reflection of the Core as a whole.’ Kuat, which is one of the other major economies in the inner core, relies on a strong export market, and secure supply lines from major producers of ship parts and materials, as the backbone of its vibrant economy.
‘The Kuat Shipyards are thriving, and we have reclaimed much of our autonomy since the collapse of the New Republic.’ the Kuati Senator confirmed in an attempt to reassure the concerns of major regional business players. ‘We are aggressively pursuing new partnerships and strategies to prosper as a world. Our economy and those of our neighbours are perfectly stable.’
