There was a lot less kicking down doors in real police action than was shown in the holovids from what Theo had experienced himself. The main reason was that most doors in the Galaxy were made out of metal and were, thus, very resistant to being kicked in. Instead most tactical insertions done by police forces were either done with the aid of a slicer or a set of breaching charges.

As the den they were set to raid was a drug running operation hidden beneath a dance studio for orphaned Twi’leks, they had option to go with slicing rather than explosives. It was also why Theo and the rest of his small team of five had their blasters permanently set to stun – even with the dance studio empty, there was a not non-existent risk of innocents becoming involved so they went with caution.

“How’s the slice coming, Ginger?”

The team’s slicer gave a so-so gesture with their free hand before getting back to work. Theo took the time to check on his team before Ginger held up a hand and began counting down on their fingers. Stacking up so that he was to be second through the door, Theo readied his pistol and tensed as the door slid open and Ginger spun out of the way to allow the rest of the team to enter.

Almost immediately he could tell something was wrong.

The first room they barged into with shouts demanding the surrender of the Zaa Fenn associates within was met with silence and a smell that Theo could not readily identify… and no criminals visible. Theo swallowed thickly as the heady smell of something sweet and burnt lingered in the air.

“Cover the exit.”
He ordered his team, “I’m going further in – hold position until I comm.”

With his team covering the entrance, Theo began to creep deeper and deeper into the maze of small rooms the criminals had been using until recently. He wasn’t sure what he would find but he had a feeling he was going to regret asking.
