Emryc could have chosen a very posh and high end restaurant. He could have rented out an entire penthouse suite with private catering. However, he instead found himself at a hole in the wall ma and pa restaurant with only four other tables in it. It mostly had people coming in, taking orders to go and leaving. Mercifully, he had been given a table tucked away slightly out of view to keep the media and others at bay.

The half Sephi had learned about this place on Naboo from the Queen herself. He had arrived earlier than the agreed upon time to give himself extra time to get some work done. Instead of a suit, he was dressed in a casual, black button down with the sleeves rolled up and some jeans. His hair was neatly styled as always, and he wore his trademark cologne.

He had ordered himself a drink, but nothing else just yet. Emryc was looking down at his datapad, sending off a few memos and signing off on some press releases. He had some meetings coming up regarding the droids to support the ISC military.

The restaurant owners kept glancing at him or whispering among themselves, but they largely left him alone. This place was not accustomed to having any special visitors at all. The Queen, naturally, had been disguised when she discovered this place on one of her escapades.

She had been expecting this summons for some time, but when she received the address, the Arkanian Offshoot blinked once, twice.

A small hole in the wall, hmm? The last time she had gone to such a place willingly had been... a long time. It was practically nostalgic.

She dressed simply as well to keep under the radar; a black tee shirt, tucked into slacks with low heels, a loose cardigan and long white hair tucked into a black wig, brows darkened to match. She refused to wear the sunglasses though, that would be a bit too cliche. Instead, amber eyes settled on the small booth and lips twitched. With how tall Emryc was, he looked almost comically tall in such a small place.

Stepping over calmly, she looked him over, then tilted her head slightly.

"Pardon me, is this seat taken?"

Emryc heard her approach long before he saw her, but he kept his gaze on the screen to finish up the last bit of whatever he was doing. Silver gaze flicked up when she arrived, studying the vibrant ambers briefly.

“I was expecting a woman with attractive glasses, but I suppose you will have to do,” The marbled baritone cut in smoothly. He jutted his chin slightly to invite her to sit. The waitress came over and stared at Ilana for a moment, wondering who she was to be meeting with him. She would scuttle off as soon as the doctor ordered her drink.

Emryc put his datapad away to let Ilana know she had his full attention, sitting up straight and leaning slightly forward in his seat. His gaze briefly flicked to the waitress in the distance before back to her.

“Are you not pleased with the droid protection provided?” He asked at once. He had cut a lucrative deal with Seypka to provide protection to MC clinics, but also personal protection. This meant that Ilana could have a top of the line droid as her bodyguard and negate the need to disguise herself. Perhaps it was a personal choice regardless.

“I trust you have all the funding you need to continue your research.”

Her lips twitched into a faint smile at the glasses mention; she lightly touched over her cheek as though to feel for them, lips parting into a moue for a split moment. "Oh, I knew I forgot something." Sliding into the opposite seat, she knew his presence would cause a stir at the local populace; though she didn't mind the limelight, today she was oddly averse to being noticed. Pulling them out of her pocket, she slipped them on. "Better?"

Ordering caf, she glanced at his question of arriving without protection, features calm, assessing him as well.
"I'm more than pleased. But though I enjoy the protection, there are times the notoriety can get out of hand." She referred to the Holonet broadcasts, however the faintest hint of a wicked grin tilted on her lips. "They followed me, but a guard droid entering with a civilian will bring in even more attention; considering you requested me here, I did not want to assume you wanted this to be a public forum."

The guard droid was keeping a perimeter as she spoke; discreet, simple from his distance. If there was danger, she would know. Her main concern would be the paparazzi, but Emryc seemed to have that handled.
"Plus I enjoy being under the radar every once in a while. It reminds me of my time as just a physician." There wasn't much nostalgia there, but there were times she missed being able to walk down the street without being noticed.

She nodded once at his words, and when the nervous waitress reappeared, she accepted the caf with grace, immediately beginning to pour a generous amount of sugar inside. Again, a nostalgic memory pinged in the back of her mind; she and Kai, sitting in a booth not too dissimilar to this one, discussing plans. She paused for a moment, before setting the sugar aside and stirring.

"Is it too bold of me to assume this is not a courtesy call nor a date?" she inquired, features neutral. "If so, I'm disappointed. I even dressed nicely." Dry humor surged to the fore again; she set the spoon aside and took a sip of caf, watching him. Waiting to see if he would ask for vaccine progress; otherwise why else ask her here, to Naboo?

Emryc was surprised she had said glasses at the ready, donning them at once. The half Sephi took a sip from his whiskey, eyeing her in silent appraisal. He didn’t answer, though his eyes did linger on her as she was given her caf.

He could relate to the desire to be anonymous - he himself had done it often after all. The galaxy was big, it wasn’t impossible to blend in. However, these days he found it difficult at times because of his massive frame and the telltale ears. He thought of his days as just a DJ or just a space taxi driver. There was something cathartic about those days, and it allowed him to learn so much about people he never expected. They all added to his base of skills in dealing with powerful individuals.

Emryc grinned at her question, her bold nature one of the first things he had admired. He drank from his whiskey again before setting it down, “This can be whatever you want it to be, Miss Morata. Especially because you’ve dressed so nicely,” The polished and silky tone poured as easily as the expensive whiskey in his glass, “We can begin by letting me buy you a real drink,” His gaze flicked down to the caf and then back up to her. She had the option of adding liquor to her caf as well after all.

He was a difficult man to read even without the mental fortress. The gelid silvers analyzed and calculated and his visage had a calm that weathered past any storm. Emryc’s eyes drifted just for a moment to regard the rest of the restaurant.

“Naboo is quite beautiful this time of year,” The leaves had begun to turn and there was the slightest chill before winter arrived, “Have you had a chance to explore it?” He looked back at her. If she was in no hurry to discuss work, he wasn’t either.

In another lifetime, perhaps, she would have been flattered at the attention from Emryc. She would have pursued it single-mindedly, intrigued as she was relieved at the lack of emotional maelstrom coming from him. However, ever since meeting for Huttball, she could feel nothing from him. Even when he had hit the bar hard enough to crack it, shouted and cheered and rubbed elbows with the best of them.

She smiled back, perking a brow.
"Don't dismiss my caf so easily, Mr. Thorne," she replied, a glint in amber eyes. "But I suppose it can be improved by a degree." Adding whisky to caf wasn't unheard of; she would do so. Most would have found it disgusting, but there were times she indulged in these kinds of things. Some called it a Corellian Coffee. She took a sip of her own, then tilted her head slightly, regarding him.

"Unfortunately, as of late I haven't been able to enjoy much of any outdoor time," she replied with a slight smile. "But no, I have not for Naboo, either. The first, and last time I was here, it was for the private forum regarding the final stage of testing. And at the time, I didn't have much of a luxury for time either." She took another careful sip of her caf, then glanced over her shoulder at the view.

"I wouldn't mind a chance, no. Since I'm here," she replied, gaze flicking back to those of silver.

Emryc found the addition of whisky to caf curious, but otherwise gave no hints of a reaction. The waitress returned to take their orders and he asked for a simple vegetarian dish, leaving Ilana to select hers. The half Sephi considered her words for a moment.

“I’ve been here quite often,” He stated as his mind drifted briefly to the Queen of Naboo, “I will be glad to show you to a few sights after this,” Emryc’s tone never betrayed where his intentions lay. It was entirely up to how Ilana wished to interpret them, and she couldn’t mentally read him for help either.

The half Sephi neatly began on his food when it arrived. He had a very proper and methodical way of eating, and it was clear he detested touching any foods with his hands. Every bite was followed by a dab of his napkin for absolute and complete cleanliness. His over the top neatfreak nature would become apparent at once.

He paused to take a sip of water before looking at her, “What kind of music do you enjoy, Ilana?”

When it came to food, the physician loved spicy dishes, the hotter the better. However, it seemed the place was relatively standard fare, so she merely ordered soup, then added a hearty few doses of hot sauce for good measure. An abomination of the palate, perhaps, but she had been craving spicy noodles for a while and this was the next best thing.

At his words, she cocked her head slightly once more, mulling them over in her mind. She couldn't quite deduce what he might have wanted from her; if it was information, this was a slow way to do it.

Similar to how he ate, she too seemed to do with care. First the protein, then the vegetables, and then the broth, a careful but thorough demolition of the food before her. She noted his even greater care with a steady amber gaze but was content not to fill the space with chatter. It was another reason his company was bearable.

At his question of music, she set down her spoon carefully and took another sip of her drink before replying. Ilana. For a brief, mad moment she wanted to correct him, but the words fled from her lips before she could say them. Instead, she carefully set down her cup once more and met the silver-eyed stare.

"Believe it or not, it spans several genres." Full lips twitched into a smile, settling her hand down on the table. "I favor up-and-coming artists over more popular ones; there's an artist who goes by G. Wiz, and Starlight Symphonic, street music, even from time to time thrash metal, depending on my desires for the day. And what do you prefer, Emryc?"

This almost reminded her of dating in medical school. Only, this time, there were no residents halfway falling asleep into their food dishes, but a man to who she owed most of her success.

She was curious about what he had planned. She had spent too long in the galaxy to feel like a meeting was a simple meeting; these days, everyone seemed to have an agenda of one kind or another.

Emryc was pleasantly surprised by how animated she was on the topic of music. Like many perceptions of him, she likely projected an aura that suggested she ventured little outside of her work. The half Sephi listened quietly, finishing up his meal. Being raised on a space station as a soldier meant he was methodical and quick about his meals, even though this sometimes bothered his dining companions. Fortunately he had his whiskey to nurse for a while, and he quietly sipped from it as Ilana spoke.

“G. Wiz,” He repeated after a moment, “He performed for the first time at the Barking Banthas, yes?” It was a very lowkey local bar on Coruscant. While he didn’t spend much time there, he certainly liked frequenting the underground scenes that had a lot of up and coming artists, “We may have been disguised and present at the same show,” Emryc grinned at her before taking another sip.

Unlike Ilana, Emryc spared no thoughts on any agendas or ideas beyond the present situation. He was not one to overthink, and he kept a relatively calm and easygoing attitude in any scenario. If she shifted focus to work, he would follow, and the same held true for anything else. His casual and at ease nature would carry through even in the way he sat and drank from his whiskey.

“My interests span a broad spectrum as well,” He explained after a moment, “I have a soft spot for old timey jizz artists like Amelie Leorna. However, as the media constantly likes to remind the public, I also have a past in DJing dance clubs. I suppose now is a good time to reveal those clubs happened to be the Nar Shaddaa underground scenes,” Emryc couldn’t help the amused glint in his eye, “So I am quite partial to synthetic drum and bass and anything I can dance to, but I also enjoy my share of thrash metal. Namely Wreckless.”

Emryc took another sip from his whiskey, perfectly relaxed in his setting. He glanced down at her food and then back to her, “I see you like your spicy foods,” He remarked, moving his hand up to brush his nose slightly from the smell of the hot sauce. Even being in the vicinity of it sometimes made his eyes and nose water, “There are a series of spicy noodle stands here that rival Coruscant’s lower levels.”

At the mention of jizz artists, a warm glimmer seemed to light in amber eyes, taking a final bite of her meal before replying.

"I believe so. I'm not sure G. Wiz is male nor female, but I think female... yes. She's beginning to make a name underground, from what one of their live streams announced. I can't remember the last time I listened to someone live... I used to put jizz on when on my resident rotations on Coruscant." Those felt like an eon ago. A different woman by a far cry, she had been so deep in debt it seemed impossible to dig out, and already sick of a galaxy that constantly overwhelmed.

"I prefer Amarth Amon when in the need for something heavy," she replied, but at the mention of spicy noodles, her grin widened. "My one true weakness. They were the only thing that once sustained me in medical school; though some smells are overpowering," she tilted her head to the food, "spices are of the few I find pleasantly jarring." With that, she slid the bowl away, once more placing the caf in front of her.

"Perhaps I might find a bowl that will finally defeat me..." a smile still glimmered in her eyes, "but I am curious about Naboo. I've heard mostly good things." She was curious about the sights he mentioned; she had never really enough time to truly take anything in, and in the tension preparing for the previous private Forum with the Senate, she barely had time to register the natural beauty of the planet before she was whisked indoors.

Well, G. Wiz was certainly male last time Emryc saw them in concert, but perhaps that had changed since. When Ilana mentioned her tastes in heavier music, an amused grin crossed his face. He vaguely thought of that kind of music blasting in the middle of the night in med school dorms. Ilana always presented herself as a prim and proper, well-put-together woman. Silver gaze pierced into ambers for a moment as Emryc surveyed her in silence. What truly laid behind that honeyed gaze? Was she a shrewd, calculated businesswoman through and through or were there layers that weren’t quite elevated to surface?

“Sadly, I am already defeated by the minuscule amounts of hot sauce you just used,” Emryc admitted outright. He took a few more napkins to wipe his nose, “I can appear charismatic and classy but will fall apart quite handily in the vicinity of spices,” Emryc gave a sheepish grin before switching over to drinking water. By the time the check arrived, he didn’t even give Ilana the chance to reach for it, handing his card over. He did leave currency for tips, however, bills that had his face on it.

Emryc rose from his seat and beckoned her to follow. He opened the door for her to step through first. He had to duck to get through the doorway and he towered over her as they walked. He often appeared in Senate chambers or on Holonet, but it was something else entirely to be directly next to his massive frame.

The half Sephi pointed towards the distance at some bright lights and what looked like an entire small village setting, “That’s the harvest festival and fair. Lots of interesting shows, rides and food,” He kept walking, pointing towards a bridge that went over a lake, “That leads to the infamous botanical gardens and lakes,” He pointed ahead, “That leads towards the mountains and valleys.”

Emryc glanced over at Ilana with a half grin, “Where are we going?”

Her lips twitched at his mention of adding hot sauce; somehow, this detail surprised her. For a moment, she was drawing a parallel in her mind; she was reminded of a time on Paqualis III, sharing noodles with someone else. Instead, she nodded, but before she could withdraw a credit, he was already paying.

Oh, of course. Galactic credits were probably practically meaningless here now. But still, the money with his face on it... her lips twitched a moment, betraying the faintest hint of a grin.
"Good to know," she murmured at his mention of spices, an impish glint in amber eyes.

And then... there were options before them. Though in another lifetime, she would have considered the thought of the fair, she didn't want to pursue that option. But at the mention of botanical gardens, amber eyes gleamed bright, first in surprise, then to delight, before abruptly shuttering once again to neutrality, but the grin remained. And she was not going for the mountains.

The last time she was in nature with someone with silver eyes, it hadn't gone as smoothly as she wanted. She could agree; nature was lovely to admire, but that was about as cozy as she would get with it.

"Gardens are a weakness of mine," she confessed, keeping an easy stride with him. Once again, she was conscious of her height against his; her head didn't even clear his shoulder, even in heels. Still, she couldn't help her posture; tall, confident, chin slightly raised as she breezed past passers-by. She knew they caught some stares; let them. She wasn't ashamed of the company she was in.

She would wait until they were within the garden walls, in an area with no others present, even with her own senses tuned. She knew a man such as him would surely have guards around him and near the perimeter, as did she. Still, that did not ease the unease that settled at the base of her spine. He was as unreadable as ever. Bending to admire a flower that bloomed wide petals in soft gold, her own voice was soft, quiet.

"Being situated mainly in the Outer Rim, the ISC surely must have border struggles with the Syndicate." Amber eyes flicked up to meet his, calm and cool in their assessment. "How keen is the ISC to removing the influence of the Syndicate law from outer rim politics?" She wouldn't wait for his answer, but stood, lightly brushing her hand against another plant. A dwarf tree, its' leaves a brilliant rust-red against the greens and other colors of the lush gardens around them.

"Or, protecting key assets from these influences?"

Emryc picked up on how Ilana went out of her way to keep herself closed off. The half Sephi, who normally played the observant role due to his withdrawn nature, found this unfortunately tedious. Two equally detached personalities seldom made for riveting company, but he would engage nonetheless. The half Sephi followed along to the gardens, enjoying the smells and sights as he passed. There were a few times where he had to sneeze or felt his eyes water slightly. Growing up on a space station meant he had limited exposure to various plants and pollen types.

The half Sephi glanced over to see her leaning in towards a flower that vaguely reminded him of her eyes. He decided to keep that observation to himself, withdrawing to his normal habit of silence. In many ways, this was a rare glimpse into his true demeanor other than the more conversational politician role he played.

“The Syndicates rank as a problem far above the Sith for the ISC,” Emryc stated flatly, “While the Sith attack single prisons and other one one off targets, the Syndicates have the ability to weaponize AMS and infect entire worlds. They are not above poisoning water supplies and resorting to heinous means of bringing entire populations to heel,” Emryc thought for a moment, “I would say addressing the Syndicates is number one priority for the ISC.”

The half Sephi’s eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed at her, “Why do you ask, Doctor Morata?”

This was perfect.

Ranking above the Sith in threat, even. Their goals were closely aligned, then. She tilted her head at his flat words, once again not catching anything. Not a glimpse of emotion, not a crack on the smooth surface. If she focused, extended her senses outward, she would detect other life forms, other hints of emotions. Though this man couldn't be ignored when he was seen, if he had been hidden from her view even she wouldn't have noticed him.

She paused for a moment, lightly touching a leaf before glancing back at him levelly.
"Our goals are aligned. Allow me to explain."

"As you know, I once worked as a physician in the Outer Rim," she stated, staring up into his features. She was uncharacteristically mobile, even as she talked, she caressed a flower, a leaf. It was as though nature itself kept her grounded, her words flowing. "When MorataCorp was first created... I had a bodyguard. A droid." The words were spoken with bitterness, amber eyes narrowing in a vague pulse of frustration that faded afterwards.

"He left when I was... in a vulnerable medical state. Without my permission. I don't know the full details of what he had been up to..."
her words trailed. And even he would feel it.

A slow, subtle pulse of anger, a tattoo in her voice.
"All I know is that I was in my office, with no guard and only a terrified receptionist when Preef Callo approached my office. Armed, and with guards." Her cybernetic hand clenched, almost crushing a flower before she stopped, and carefully released it, not bruising a single petal. "He claimed my bodyguard attempted to assassinate him. At that time, I had no defense to be rid of him, and the one being I had thought I could rely on to protect me was gone." Her jaw clenched, and amber eyes flashed, their usual cool turning brilliant, almost burnished in the light. "I had only two choices; do as he wanted, or go to war. And I had no means to battle him at that time, even if I wasn't suffering from a medical crisis."

Her lips twisted cynically.
"You mention AMS being weaponized; I've seen that effect first hand. I will not let him, nor any other Syndicate gain profit from this vaccine; they can reap what they sow. But I have the vaccine to stop them, and I will not let them get their hands on it."

She stared up at him fully, arms crossed beneath her bust.

"I offer you the key to ending their threat. Likely, not getting their hands on the vaccine will earn their ire... but also draw their focus to me. They will become easier targets to eliminate that threat. My deal was that the first drug MorataCorp produced will be split with him... but I refuse to let him have a single piece of it. Him, nor any other Syndicate bosses." Her words grew quiet, then, staring at him. "I know several of their people. Part of the deal was to sell product for a brief spell. I know the paths of trade they used, the names they used to ship. I've been their doctor for many years. I ask that you help me protect what's mine, and I will help you in ways to remove their threat in any way I can." She was taking a gamble here. This risk meant she was at his mercy, and he would know it.

She extended her hand, her gaze solemn.
"And in return, I'll increase your shares and offer you a partial ownership of one of my patents."

Emryc was silent as she spoke, revealing a lot of things that genuinely surprised him. However, none of this manifested on his stoic face. Unlike Ilana, the half Sephi didn’t disturb or touch any of the plants in his vicinity, preferring to leave things as is. He could sense her tensing as she spoke, the emotions whirling within her more pronounced than he would expect from anyone ordinary. There were a few beats of silence after she finished, the half Sephi’s eyes as difficult to read as ever.

“You wish to capitalize on the ISC efforts against the Syndicates to save your own skin,” He stated in one simple line her entire story. There was no anger or sense of betrayal in his tone as he spoke, his voice perfectly calm. He reached for a cigarra and placed it between his lips, using a lighter to ignite it. He wasn’t sure smoking was allowed in here, but this topic certainly called for one.

“If this deal of yours were to ever come to surface, your reputation and everything you stand for would tank,” The half Sephi eyed her quietly. While it also meant his profits would tank, he had other investments. He wasn't the type to put all his eggs in one basket, “I can be an understanding man, but I am not a charity, Doctor Morata. Whatever mess you landed yourself in with Preef Callo is wholly independent of the larger war we face with the Syndicates. Dealing with Callo on things that strike him a blow personally will invite far more retaliation than engaging in conflict with Hutt governed worlds.”

Emryc looked away and blew out a cloud of smoke, “But you have shown promise and I’m impressed by your cleverly manipulative attempts to tie your problem to the war. I will give you this protection in exchange for a much larger stake in the company and veto powers over other investors if their ideals do not align with mine,” He looked back at her again, “Think about it, Ilana. You came to me about this because you know I deal with the Outer Rim and questionable topics. I’m not afraid to dip my toes into things that would make those FWA and New Republic prissy boys twist their panties in a knot. But that also means I’m not altruistic to a naive fault.”

The half Sephi drew in from the cigarra, sharp, silver eyes digging into ambers, “Name what you offer with actual percentages and numbers, and if I like it, we have a deal.”

If you expected failure and the worst outcome, you would never be disappointed. As it was, she fully expected him to reject her proposal and throw her to the proverbial sharks. It wouldn't have been beyond his own powers to do so; in fact, in a way she almost expected it. However, he was wrong on a few points.

This wasn't to save her own skin, but the employees and members of MorataCorp. Her own life always held little value to her personally, but there were others in her life that would be negatively impacted. She didn't care about her own reputation much, either; if it tanked, she could always sell MorataCorp and disappear if she wanted to. No, this was more than that. This was for Silvi, for Corran and Sevrin. This was to protect those she loved from something she didn't have the power to fight alone.

"I didn't come to you expecting a charity, Emryc," she stated plainly, amber eyes also staring deep into silvers. But... his deal was almost, funnily enough, on par with what she had tried to offer Preef Callo in the past. At the time, the Rodian held no interest in shares she had offered him. But clever and manipulative... yes. That was one way to put it. But there was also the consideration of the GHO.

"I propose a forty-seven percent share stake, along with the power to veto. A fifty-fifty share split of the next three products I provide to the market, excepting the vaccine."
She watched him smoke, arms crossing beneath her bust. She knew he expected her to sell the vaccine... she would have to craft her words carefully.

"As for provision... I do have a plan to expand MorataCorp's horizon far beyond AMS." She stopped moving, watching passively as he continued to smoke. "The vaccine that MorataCorp has been researching will not be the only one available; given that there will be several variants, vaccine variants will also have to be provided. It is my plan to utilize abandoned medical stations situated throughout the galaxy for dispersion and emergency purposes." She looked over at him, watching patiently. "The first vaccine will be donated throughout the galaxy, as a boon for patience, and planets beseiged. However. It will not be produced as a product of MorataCorp, but as a product of the Galactic Health Organization; MorataCorp will help distribute, but all stations will ask for a small fee in exchange for patients." She exhaled quietly, continuing. "I know that the FWA and NR will stop at nothing to jump ahead of the ISC to look charitable in the face of the vaccine, so I am offering you an early notice to beat them to the punch." She smiled, briefly, but it was not one with warmth. "The primary funds made aren't with vaccines, but with bandages, trauma centers, medical facilities. Once the AMS threat is dealt with on the galactic scale, there will always be a war. With war from the Syndicates and from the Sith, or any other cause, there are needs for medical services, inventions to heal. In exchange for approval of GHO, MorataCorp asks to be permitted to use these facilities; I already have patents pending for a trauma vest, advanced cybernetics, and a poison antidote that can be aersolized." She tilted her head. "Our profit has already increased tenfold due to being chief researchers of the vaccine; with other projects cutting into a market with minimal competition, MorataCorp advisors have claimed that the trauma vests alone will be a key asset in a market where there is minimal support services for war-torn planets. I also have begun research into bioprinting technology; though there are planets who claim an edge on cloning, I intend to bypass that edge for something superior, produced in a shorter time and with less chance of organ rejection, like with cybernetic limbs."
