For Elidan it was like any other day at the Jedi Temple of Yavin IV. His last class of the day had recently ended and the Padawan had five hours of free time until dinner. The half-Sephi had decided to spend this time reading alone at the gardens, which was what he loved to do. He could have some friends now, but the boy still liked to stay alone.

After a quick walk to his room, the Padawan left the things that he used in the class and picked the book that he was going to read today. A gift given to him by Asadra, it was one of his few printed books. It was about the fauna and flora of Kashyyyk. Elidan was still in the first chapter, but he was already loving it.

While he walked through the corridors of the Temple toward the gardens, Elidan passed next to other padawans. As usual, they ignored him and he ignored them. However, due to his hearing, the auburn haired boy was able to hear what they were talking about. Usually, he would not care for gossip, but he heard the others talking about new Massassi ruins that were found not so far away from the waterfalls.

It was interesting. Even with the Jedi being on Yavin IV for nearly a century, there were still many new things being discovered. Elidan wondered if the Knights were going to explore these ruins. Perhaps it could have some clue for why the Massassi disappeared.

Once he arrived at the gardens, the Padawan walked to the tree where he used to stay when he wanted some time for himself. It was in a place hidden by some bushes, near the wall with the secret passage to the forest. Rarely anyone would come here, so he would have all the peace that he wanted to read without being disturbed.

Miyamoto was still adapting to life on Yavin and in the Jedi Order, it was hard, for many reasons perhaps too many to count or list out without falling into despair. Something the Jedi Masters had warned him away from, but today the issue was the amount of people within the Jedi Temple. To most of the galaxy the temple was not crowded in the slightest but to someone who had spent his life around the same dozen people, this was too much.

He attended classes rarely his ‘history’ meaning that he was often tutored on his own, a blessing considering today's issue. It also meant that he was often allowed to wander the halls of the temple alone whilst others were in class, it was this wandering that had led him to his new hobby. Skateboarding, he was no trickstar, he could just about jump the thing without falling flat on his arse, but the motion of the wheels on the ancient stone brought a smile to his face.

Skating around a corner he spotted Master Goordayr, her ears already pricking up from the sound of his wheels. Pulling The Force within himself he used it to shoot himself back round the corner out of sight. But apparently not out of the senses of the Jedi Councillor, he could hear her shouting his name as he burst from the temple grounds and headed towards the gardens.

The main paths were still hard stone so he was able to get some distance on the board before it turned to gravel. Picking up the board he carried on walking for a bit, he could do without having Goordayr chew his ear out again so not heading back till supper was probably for the best. Looking back on himself, Miyamoto rounded the corner and quickly found himself tumbling over someone (@LouJoVi), hitting the ground hard his board skittering off to the side.

Even before he reached the gardens, Elidan had already started to read his book. When it was something that he considered very interesting, the Padawan used to read while he walked. It was something dangerous, walking without paying attention to where he was going. He believed that with his hearing he would be able to hear anyone walking toward him and this way possible collision would be avoided.

However, it didn't always work. When he was going round the corner, Elidan didn’t hear another Padawan approaching. They collided against each other, with the auburn-haired boy losing his balance and falling seated on the floor. His book flew out of his hand and fell at the other boy’s lap.

He looked at the person that collided with him and identified him as another Padawan. However, Elidan didn’t know his name and neither had seen the other boy during classes. Probably he was new at the Temple.

The half-Sephi rose to his feet and picked his Datapad, tipping a message. “I’m sorry. I should have paid attention to where I was going. Are you fine?” if the other boy answered that he was fine, Elidan would offer a hand for him to get up. “My name is Elidan, by the way. I have mutism.

The unexpected fall had knocked the wind out of Miyamoto and he was struggling to catch his breath as he rolled over to look at the individual he had collided into. There was a flash of anger across his face and he at first went to grab the other kid’s shirt, but he pulled himself back. No that was not the answer, not anymore. He had to tell himself that a few times as Miyamoto slowly got his breath back, luckily his anger was also dampened by the other boy showing him a data pad with a message on it.

He looked at the pad a little confused, cocking his head to one side like a dog before nodding in reply. The auburn haired boy then offered him a hand and he took it, though his grip was perhaps a little too firm. Again he caught himself after the face and once he was stood up he released the hold quickly. The kid, Elidan then answered his unasked question by confirming that he was mute. Realisation washed over his face, “Miyamoto Koji.” He replied holding his hand out again to shake it, if the boy took it he would make sure to not grip so hard this time.

Once they had shook hands, he would turn around and look for his skateboard, it was a few feet away upside down half in a bush. Diving in to get the board he shouted over his shoulder. “Why are you all the way out here, you hiding from Master Goordayr as well?”

It’s nice to meet you, Miyamoto.” Elidan showed the other boy this message, shaking the hand that was offered to him. At least, this time the other boy didn’t use the same strength of when the half-Sephi was helping him get up from the ground. I t had been a bit painful.

Elidan considered that the strong grip on his hand was a signal that Miyamoto was mad at him . It matched the anger that he felt coming from the other Padawan some seconds after he fell on the ground. However, he decided to not say anything about it. It was his own fault that this accident happened. He should have paid attention to his surroundings.

After Miyamoto retrieved his skateboard, Elidan typed an answer for the other boy’s question. “No, I was going to read a bit there in the garden.” once there was enough time for him to read the message, the half-Sephi crouched and picked his book. He was relieved that it wasn’t damaged.

At this moment, a group of younglings came walking to the garden. Like any children, they started to scream and play around. Elidan sighed, now his plans of reading in silence went away. Perhaps he could go to the forest. While he thought about what he should do now, the half-Sephi once again heard the children talking about the new Massassi ruins and how it could be full of treasures.

I think that I’ll go read in the forest.” with all these excited children there, Elidan would not be able to read his book in peace. “Have you ever visited the forest before?” he wondered if Miyamoto already explored this part of the planet.

Miyamoto looked down at the book as Elidan picked it up. Makes sense, must be a pain in the ass communicating as a mute, so reading was probably the best pastime he could have. The sound of approaching younglings irked the Padawan. They were always noisy, nosey and just a pain. They were too happy for Miyamoto’s sanity, they brought back many memories of his childhood to process, so he tried to avoid them as much as possible.

When Elidan mentioned heading into the forest, Miyamoto was already walking, trying to get away from these terrors as quickly as possible. He ducked through the small stone archyway which marked the borders of the gardens with that of the forest, skateboard still tucked under his left arm. Once they had passed the first few trees he turned back to look at Elidan. “No, I have only been here a few weeks.” He had spent most of his time with the Jedi on New Alderaan up until this date.

The sound of the screaming children was already dying off the noise of the forest slowly taking its place. “I know there is a hill to the South West, it should have a good view of the temple from there. Least we can tell when dinner is ready then.”

Before Elidan could even finish what he was saying, he saw Miyamoto already walking toward the passage that went to the forest. The half-Sephi stayed blinking for some seconds, trying to understand what the other boy was doing. Was he really that much interested in visiting the forest? With the exception of the dangerous predators living there, there wasn’t much to see.

Soon, the half-Sephi followed Miyamoto. He passed through the stone archway, finding the other Padawan already going to walk through the path that went to the forest. Elidan walked a bit faster to catch up with him.

At first, the auburn-haired boy had thought about excusing himself and finding a nearby tree where he could read. However, since the other boy continued walking deeper in the forest, Elidan considered that it was because he was wanting to explore the place with the half-Sephi as a guide. The way that Miyamoto talked with him seemed to confirm it.

After Miyamoto stopped talking, Elidan typed another message for him on his Datapad. So he was right, the other Padawan was new at the Temple. Perhaps he would like to know some other places. "I think that Ii know which hill you are talking about. It's a really good place. If you want, I can show you other places around there." the robotic voice of his Datapad repeated the message.

While they continued to walk through the path toward the hill, Elidan decided to continue the conversation with Miyamoto. "You said that you arrived some weeks ago. Did you used to live in another Temple or did you only join the Order now?"

It seemed that his little collison into Elidan was going to pay out quite well for Miyamoto, the other Padawan seemed to have been here for a while and had a good lay of the land. It was handy, he had heard about the Sith attack on the temple shortly before his arrival here. If the Sith were coming again, he would not go back, so had to find a good few places to hide just encase.

“Yea, I have been staring at stone walls constantly, so it will be nice to get to see something different.” He replied, slowing a little to allow the Half-Selphi to catch up and walk side by side through the forest. Whenever it would get too narrow Miyamoto would drop back to allow Elidan to take the lead. “I spent some time on New Alderaan, but I am pretty new to the Order.” Miyamoto said ducking a low hanging branch.

“You know there are some pretty good biotech’s out there, I am sure they could fit you with an implant so you don’t need the tablet?”

”I never visited the Temple of New Alderaan. How is it?” He had heard about this one, a new building established on the planet through diplomacy. Elidan rarely left Yavin IV and never visited other Temples. However, he remembers how the one in Ajan Kloss was different from the one there. He wondered if all temples were different from each other or if it only happened because the one in Yavin was made inside an ancient Massassi Temple.

Elidan frowned after he heard Miyamoto comment about using a biotech implant. No one ever said something like that to him before. While he understood that the other boy was trying to be helpful, this was a blunt way to solve his mutism. The auburn-haired boy felt compelled to explain his situation. “I’m not totally mute. I suffer from something called selective mutism.” then he explained how he could still speak, but due to psychological reasons, he couldn’t do it near other people. The only person that heard his voice after so many years was Ruzaan.

This is why I use the Datapad. I can also use sign language and sometimes telepathy. However, not everyone knows sign language and I only use telepathy with people that I know.” he explained. He never thought that so few beings would know how to communicate with signs. If it’s already difficult for him to interact with people because of it, it should be terrible for people that were totally mute and deaf.

After some time walking through the trail, Elidan detected a sound with his hearing. It seemed to be something large moving through the forest and seemed to be approaching them from the right. When it came close enough, even Miyamoto would be able to hear. Suddenly a large Runyip would come from behind the bushes and seemed to be going to trample the two Padawans.

Without much time to react, Elidan grabbed Miyamoto and jumped out of the creature's path. The Runyip continued running without control, until it crashed against a large tree, falling in the ground without moving. “Are you fine?” the auburn-haired boy asked the other Padawan before turning to look at the animal. It was bizarre. “Do you think that we should see what happened with it?
