Minister Ivo Opstelten and his deputy State Secretary Fred Teeven have just announced their resignation in a press conference. They were part of the Ministry of Justice and Security, a department that came under siege lately as part of missing documents of a court case in 2001, in which a man named Kees H. was given a total sum of 4.7 million gulden (2 million dollars) by then Officer of Justice Teeven. Opstelten claims his department has lost it's integrity, and he claims full responsibility for his actions. Teeven, as part of being the prosecutor of the case, has said that he is no longer believable. Thus, he can no longer continue his work.
The two statesmen were known as the 'Justice Twins' in Netherlands. They were two of the greatest Justice ministers of the last decade, having served for at least 3 Cabinets for 6 years. Their resignation comes as both a surprise and heartstruck. Personally, these men were my heroes. They really fought crime like no one else had done before. It will be a long time before such politicans will be found again.
Well at least I'd like to thank those two men. Thank you for your services. And I and all of Holland respect your decision.
