Hey guys! Let me start by saying that I hope this is the beginning of what will turn into exactly what I'm looking for: a real-feel Star Wars immersion where I'll evolve, both, as a writer and a character. I've been looking for a Star Wars RP for a while now set in the Galactic Civil War era, but seeing as how none of them seem to have the dedication and longevity SWRP seems to have, this is where I've decided to land.

I've been reading up a bit and must express my dismay at only deciding to join after Empress Adena(?) has taken a leave of absence. She seemed like a great inspirational anchor for everyone here. That being said, I'd more than love to contribute to our effort to do our best to fill the void she'll be leaving behind.

As it is, I work two jobs, have a girlfriend, and am rockin' some college, but with weekdays off until 10:40 p.m., I'm hoping to become a major contributor and active participant in the community here.

Well, I just love the enthusiasm I'm seeing! I should warn you that we are setting up for a new timeline that will take place pre-Civil War, so I don't know if that will be better for you or not? It will be Disney's new Canon, but we will barrow what we need to fill in the blanks from the EU, so basically -since disney doesn't have anything for when we will be RPing the next timeline- this timeline will be a blank slate for us to fill in however we end up going.

Welcome! Yes, Adena will be missed but the rest of the staff and members here are a great. Like flameje said we are gearing up for a new timeline which will take place around 1000 years before the Galactic Civil War. Typically the site tries to keep the stories outside of movie established canon so things are complicated and we have complete freedom story wise. But don't let that bother you. We are very active here and activity will definitely increase once the new timeline starts. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

So we're gonna be OMITing everything pre-episode one with a few exceptions here and there? Also, do we have any idea what the new factions are as of yet in this new timeline, for backstory purposes, or have an ETA on the release as a whole? Not asking because it's a deal-breaker or anything. Just curious. :)

Here is the link to the new timeline announcement post. Scroll down a bit and you will see the new factions. Also the link that Flamje provided will take you to the rest of the announcements and those are all we know. Yes anything story wise that Disney has not said is canon and is pre ep1 will be omitted. As far as tech and non story stuff goes we don't yet know (the admins do though) what will be allowed and what won't. I think it is safe to say that most species will still be allowed. And probably a lot of the tech that isn't overpowered. We don't have an ETA yet on the new timeline. But it will be soon.

Dude, I came here under the same circumstances. I had played a Conquer The World forum game set in the Galactic Civil War era, playing as a Moff, and got addicted and wanted to play more but couldn't find any with that setting. I came here because of the activity more than anything else, but the writing quality was a big plus too. I also like that the forum is divided into subforums and threads rather than huge megathreads you get lost in after 8 hours of sleeping.

2 jobs eh? I'm just losing an internship with the Federal government that I was supposedly guaranteed to move into FTE for after getting my Masters, but whatever, I ain't salty. (lie)

You guys have a few more in-depth mechanics than any other RP I've involved myself with, but that's only making me more geek ed for this time line to begin.

To any Admins or whomever else can answer this: are we allowing the Rattataki into the mix here?

I can't speak for the admins but I don't see any reason that a Rattataki wouldn't be allowed. In this current timeline there has been a list of banned species. FWIW Rattataki were not on that list. However the admins are doing something a bit different for the new TL. Here is the thread for that. The brief explanation is on page 3 post #50. Might want to post in it you are planning on using Rattataki. To sum it up it will probably be allowed.

Yea there are definitely more mechanics here. But they really do help things run smoothly. It makes the admins more effective and their job easier.

If you end up going indie and joining a faction that isn't the Jedi, the Republic or the Sith then I'd be more than happy to use my third character slot so we can be Rattataki buddies!

Thank you!! No one else likes Rattataki and I'm over here like "BUT THEY'RE SO COOL!!". It's always been between them and Zabrak for me. As of yet, I'm kicking around a few ideas for my character. Unfortunately, I'm the kind of person who comes up with enough detail for each of my characters to write a damn book about them. Haha Thank you though! I'm looking forward to seeing everyoone in RP and I pray to whomever that I'll have the time to keep up with you guys. I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan through and through so this website is really a dream-come-true, but it's just been a while since I've RP'd. I'm only really nervous about all the rules and mechanics though, but you guys all seem friendly and welcoming enough so I'm not too worried.

As for my Rattataki, I think I'm going to remain an independent character. None of the factions truly appeal to me as they all seem to be too black and white. Now, that's not me trying to say the writers did a bad job; I'm stoked for the storyline, but I think the Old Republic is a tricky time when it comes to the relations of her citizens and the Jedi essentially taking over parts of the military agenda here and there. This isn't when the Jedi are trusted guardians of the republic, it's when they first felt it was necessary to step into the Galactc playground of normal-fairing citizens.

That's fair enough. I can understand wanting to stay independent. It can make it a bit more difficult to find RP, since you have to go a bit more out of your way, but it can be fun. I'd be happy to make a Rattataki along with you, if you'd like! As for rules and mechanics, those only tend to come into play when you find yourself in a PvP thread. Otherwise it's extremely freeform, and although PvP threads are also freeform, they require rules to be placed down so people don't go crazy and do unfair things.

The reason I asked about what faction, if any, you planned on your character joining is that I already have two characters in the Sith main faction, and with new rules for next timeline stating that you can only have two characters in a main faction and can only be part of one main faction, I wouldn't have been able to join you if your character was part of the Sith, Jedi or Republic, since they're all main factions and I'm fresh out of main faction possibilities. Have you taken a look at any of the indie factions in the Dawn of the Republic Workshop yet? Those might take your interest. Also, feel free to start a conversation with me and we can see about being Rattataki buddies in an environment that doesn't clog a thread up with unrelated posts!
