DESCRIPTION
The Munificent-class star frigate is a heavy capital ship originally developed by Hoersch-Kessel Drive Inc. for the InterGalactic Banking Clan in the years prior to the Clone Wars. Originally serving as heavily armed communication ships for the Banking Clan's far-flung private data network, the type was drafted into de facto military service when their owners pledged their support to the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

For the time of its construction, the Munificent was a powerful warship indeed, flaunting various naval treaties in order to pack as many turbolasers and other weapons aboard as the dubious space frame would allow. 825 meters in length, the Munificent would be classed as heavy cruiser under the Anaxes War College System, however it was dubbed as a "star frigate" to draw away the attention of any investigating authorities. Like other ships by Hoersch-Kessel at the time, it made use of significant automation, able to scrape by with a crew of just 200, the majority of which were often droids.

The type does have a number of weaknesses, many of them structural; using an exceptionally light space-frame for its size, the Munificent relies on a tensor field to retain structural integrity, especially when maneuvering or inside a planetary atmosphere. Like its larger cousin, the Recusant-class light destroyer, its armor protection is also incomplete, meaning that once its shields are depleted, it can be crippled with a few well-placed shots. Damage to the tensor field generators will often cause the ship to begin breaking up.

Munificent-class star frigates served with distinction through the Clone Wars, being among the most powerful and numerous heavy capital ships fielded by the CIS. After the war, however, most were recalled and ignominiously scrapped by the victorious Galactic Empire, their raw materials fueling the construction of the next generation of Imperial star destroyers. Some did escape this fate, of course; small numbers were sold to neutral powers and Imperial allies, while a few were actually used by the fledgling Alliance to Restore the Republic, although there were well-founded debates regarding public image, with senior Rebel leadership being concerned that the use of former Separatist war materiel could de-legitimize the Rebellion.

In the present day, there are still a handful of Munificents still in service with various governments, criminals and paramilitary groups. More have begun to appear as the Galaxy spirals again toward open warfare, with the various combatants shaking out mothball fleets, scrapyards and even museums for anything that could be restored and returned to service.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Munificent-class star frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or decently well-off planetary government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Munificent-class star frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as a faction asset with staff oversight.
