Jaikus was completely silent as he stared down into the depths of coffee cup, emerald eyes watching as that bit of foam idly drifted across the surface of the liquid. He took a very long moment to fully digest the information that Emryc has revealed to him, as well as to process his own raging emotions.

While the Axxilan didn’t vocalize an immediate response to anything that was said. he was a naturally expressive individual - and his every internal reaction played out clear as day in his face.

It surfaced and receded in waves, but there was an indescribable sense of relief and joy that etched itself briefly onto the Axxilan’s featured - brought about by the revelation that his sister was alive. It was news that shocked Jaikus to his very core, because it was news he didn’t even believe to be possible.

The Axxilan had been there in the aftermath of the raids on his family penthouse. Zain, Aiyla, Rayan, Nadia, his brothers and sisters - alongside his own parents - has all perished that day. Jaikus has seen the grizzly remains of what had been his family, and it burned a permanent reminder that left no mystery to their fates.

Hatice had been different. While members of his family has been strewn throughout the property, his youngest sister had been notably absent from the carnage and hadn’t been located since. While it had initially been a source of hope for the Axxilan, months spent searching has resulted in nothing but disappointment - tearing that wound open each and every time someone of vaguely similar appearance was found and subsequent proven to be the wrong person.

Eventually, Jaikus had given up on the search. There were countless Axxilan civilians who had perished in the conflict, and countless bodies that had never been found. His own sister had been counted among those ranks, and Jaikus had mourned her along with the rest of his family.

While the revelation that he’d been wrong all this time was undeniably positive, Jaikus’ expression didn’t reflect it at every moment. The longer he sat there, the more that feeling of guilt seemed to crawl through his stomach, tightening in his chest to the point that it was painful. Tears had already begun to well in the Axxilan’s eyes, though they hadn’t quite begun to roll down his cheeks.

It was guilt felt because Jaikus had failed his own sister. Guilt because he had failed on his search to find her, and to pull her out of the devastation that had befallen their family. Guilt because whatever she had suffered on the years since the attack was, on some level, was his fault. If he had tried harder, searched longer, none of it would’ve happened.

He sat there, and dozens of questions swirled within his mind. The news that she was safe and sound was a relief, and yet he still h e wanted to know exactly which level his sister was operating out of and what she’d been doing all these years. Why she hadn’t attempted to return to the upper levels, or even reach out to the extended relatives that still lived scattered on Axxila.

Jaikus blinked a few times when Emryc spoke, the words immediately drawing the Axxilan out of his flurry of thoughts.

“Me?” He asked quietly, emerald eyes suddenly flicking up to look at his partner. Though Emryc didn’t say it outright, Jaikus could clearly note the reluctant and discomfort in his partner’s voice. There was a purposeful usage of words, and it all indicated that the half-Sephi had no desire to be a part of tracking Hatice down.

The Axxilan was quite for a very long moment, emerald eyes never breaking contact with his partner. While it wasn’t vocalized, Emryc would undoubtedly notice the faint frown that tugged at the corners of his lips. The fact that his partner wanted nothing to do with his venture was a painful pill to swallow.

A moment more, and Jaikus finally rose up from where he was sitting. He took a few steps toward his partner, reaching down to wrap his fingers around the half-Sephi’s hand tenderly. His thumb brushed across the top of Emryc’s hand, squeezing him tightly.

“Emryc, you are my partner.. You’re my family.” He muttered quietly, leaning in close and against the half-Sephi. “I need to find her, to face her after all this time.” He said firmly before pausing, exhaling softly. “And it is something I want to do with you by my side every step way.” He looked down, staring at the half-Sephi’s chest. “You are the most important thing in my life, Emryc.. And I want you to be a part of this not as a bystander but as the man I love.”

Jaikus lingered in place for a long moment, savoring the familiar comfort that came with being close to his partner. It was something he never grew tired of, and in that moment, it was a pillar of support that he leaned against more than ever.

Even still, his thoughts on the matter didn’t cease, Whatever his own desires, Jaikus knew that this was something that made his partner deeply uncomfortable - and he stopped short of outright asking or pressuring the half-Sephi into going. He always expresses what he wanted and felt, but has never forced his partner into a corner or pushed him into something that Emryc didn’t want. This would be no exception.

Though he didn’t move, Jaikus exhaled softly as he glanced up at his partner. “You know that I will never ask you do anything you don’t wish to..” He mutter quietly, though if was certainly loud enough for his partners sensitive hearing. There was no edge of resentment of malice to his words, genuine as he always was. Whatever Emryc said would be accepted and wouldn’t be broached again, regardless of how that might have cut or pained the Axxilan deeply.

Emryc remained still as Jaikus closed the distance, grasping his hand. He knew his partner well enough to know there would be some push back against his statement, but he was still unprepared for it. Jaikus knew Emryc well enough to tell when the half Sephi was under stress, and it manifested in the way his ears twitched in very quick, short bursts instead of more elongated movements.

He stiffened even more at the Axxilan’s words, his gaze staring ahead vacantly at the wall across from them. Though Jaikus moved in close, Emryc exhaled and took a step back, lowering his gaze to meet the emeralds.

“Cohabiting with you is something I’m only slowly coming to terms with,” He explained slowly. Unlike years prior, he actually knew how to formulate his thoughts into words now instead of receding into his mind and closing doors, “I’ve been here before. Where I was told I’m family and how that means behaving a certain way, adopting a certain name…” Where it was heavily implied that Emryc would become a Drast, as if that were some grand honor to be bestowed upon him. It reminded him of being told how to bow. It reminded him of making a case of himself to a family member on why he was worthy.

“It ended with me devastating an entire planet,” He said after a few seconds, his face clearly betraying his distress, “I’m not going to explain myself to your family. I’m not going to follow their customs, because I don’t give a flying fuck about them. I only care about you and only love you. I barely only have capacity for that for you with half of myself and no one fucking else in the galaxy. I’m not a good guy, Jaikus, and if you don’t know that by now, you need to seriously re-evaluate some things.”

Emryc took a deep breath before he continued, “I’m not going to go through this again. I’m not going to show up and tolerate your sister or any other family member’s opinions of me while sitting there playing nice because of how I feel about you. I’ve done that song and dance before, and you know what? I’m glad I blew up that bitch’s mansion and erased her and her legacy off the planet. And if your family does the same to me, I will choke that bitch too and I will do it in front of you. I do a dog and pony show for my planets, I'm not going to do it for my personal life."

Flecks of yellow began to appear in his eyes, but he didn’t make any physical movements towards or away from Jaikus, “I am Emryc fucking Thorne. I'm a monster. You fucking take me for what I am or you walk away from me.”

Jaikus knew his partner well enough to know when the half-Sephi was under stress. He clearly noted the way that his ears flicked and how Emryc vacantly looked past him and towards the wall. The Axxilan knew that his partner was displeased, and yet the words that followed were still something that Jaikus wasn’t prepared for.

There was a distinct pain and discomfort that lanced through his chest the moment that Emryc stepped away, and the Axxilan’s hand lingered in the air for a few moments where the contact had been broken.

Emerald eyes tilted up to meet his partner’s when a Emryc began to speak, He was sas Emryc spoke, silent as he processed every word that was said.

The fact that Emryc even vented his feelings, rather than closing off and shutting Jaikus out, spoke volumes in of itself. Nevertheless, it was the first time Emryc had ever griped towards him in such a way and the words cut deep, and they came at a moment when the Axxilan was already emotionally because of the revelations about his sister. While he never wavered or moved from where he was standing, there was a distinct wetness that accumulated in his eyes throughout his partner speaking.

Jaikus was silent for a long moment before he spoke, taking a moment to process his partner’s words. “I..” He began, his voice almost cracking.

He took in a deep breath, keeping his emerald eyes tilted up to meet those yellowed silvers as he finally formulated a response. “I love you, Emryc - with every part of my being. You are family to me, and you are important to me and I don’t give a damn about any customs, or traditions, or food that you have no desire to be a part of.” He knew that issue in particular was something he had mentioned back on Onderon, but it was never something Jai intended to hold his partner to. “You are who I choose, and the rest of the Galaxy can go fuck themselves next to you.”

“I love you and care about you for who you are. I know that you do not have room for that with anyone but me, I would never seriously ask you to behavior a certain way for anyone or try to appease my family. And I would would never ask you to take any name that is not your own.”
He words were firm on that topic in particular, addressing the concern head on. Despite his noble upbringing, his own name was something that Jaikus didn’t put a tremendous amount of value into. Jaikus has done next-to-nothing to recuperate his family fortune or to restore his name to its previous prestige and glory, nor was it a name that he proudly flaunted at every opportunity.

It was something that he has traditionally gripped with other members of his family about, and if they ever reunited, he expected he and Hatice would do the same.

He put more value into own, personal accomplishments and achievements - rather than clinging to the legacy of those who came before him. He put more value into Emryc’s name - made famous by only the half-Sephi’s personal accomplishments - because it was his. “Who you are, and your own name is more valuable to me than any other.”

“I will would never ask or desire you to explain yourself, or play nice, behave a certain way for anyone. And I would not tolerate my family to have any opinion.”
He said firmly. Whatever his own desires for Emryc to meet his sister or extended family, the Axxilan had no desire for Emryc to mold himself to their standards.

He clearly noted the flecks of yellow that appeared in his partner’s eyes, and knew that Raze was more present within his partner at all times. Unlike in the past, Jaikus didn’t immediately back away or tense at the sight - keeping his emerald eyes fixated onto his partner.

It was a far cry from the way that Jaikus has instinctively recoiled from that side of his partner the first time on Serenno, and it spoke to just how deeply in love he was with the half-Sephi. He knew Raze was a part of his partner, and it was something he would not pull away from.

Jaikus exhaled, taking a moment to completely steady himself. The wetness on the Axxilan’s eyes lingered though it didn’t progress further.

After a long moment, the Axxilan took a single step towards his partner - closing the distance slightly before he finally continued speaking. “I know exactly who and what you are, Emryc - and that is the man who I love and value more than anything else in this galaxy.”

“From day one, I have embraced you as you were, and have never asked you to change yourself for me or anyone else, and I never will. I told you that I wish to take every door off its hinges, I promised you that I would never walk away from you, so long as you want me by your side.”

“That will never change.”

Emryc knew he said some very unpleasant things the moment he was finished. He stood in silence, letting it grow between them. This was uncomfortable territory for him. He kicked himself for lashing out, it was never in his nature to do so. He expressed emotions more than he ever did normally, and it all came out without him being able to stop himself. It was exactly the kind of mistake that warranted repeated lashes on his back. He could even feel some of the old scars pulsing with renewed pain as a reminder that he failed himself.

He didn’t miss the moisture in Jaikus’ eyes, and it made him tense and caused his jaw to tighten. However, he made no moves towards his partner. He had been here before, reacting to every tear, every ounce of sadness, every pout. And it always left him feeling weak in the end. It also built resentment as he began to see the other person as a weak being that needed support and protecting. Jaikus was nothing like that. The man stood on his own, and he didn’t need Emryc to coddle him every time he was remotely upset. On top of that, with Raze and Emryc merged more, his capacity for empathy was more warped.

But he knew he said hurtful things.

The realization stung and cut deeper than any weapon ever could. His face betrayed as much, remorse reflecting on the normally stoic. He listened as Jaikus spoke, not saying a word as he reaffirmed where he stood. Emryc kept his gaze on the other man, meeting emeralds with his gold tinted silvers.

A few seconds of silence passed after Jaikus finished. Emryc kept his gaze fixed, not moving a muscle.

“I…” He said quietly, barely audible, “I’m sorry.”

Apologizing was certainly not something that came easy from the half Sephi. And when he did say it, he almost never cared enough to mean it. This time, however, it reflected in his tone and expression both.

“I need time,” He said after a long moment, “I’ve never lived with anyone before. I’m grappling with that...and meeting your family on top of that… “ He shook his head, “This is a search you will have to do on your own. I will give you all the resources and support you need, but I can’t go with you.”

Expressive by his very nature, there was no masking that Jaikus was pained by what Emryc had said. It was evident in the wetness that accumulated in his eyes and the subtle shifts and twitches in his expression. He was not used to his partner lashing out, and the sudden outburst was something that caught him off guard when he was already reeling the bombshell news about his sister.

Even still, the Axxilan clearly noted the remorse that was almost immediately reflected on his partner’s face – a far cry from the half-Sephi’s usually stoic expression that reflected more than could be put into words. He exhaled softly, bring a hand up to wipe the wetness from his own eyes.

Jaikus was silent for a long while after finished speaking, those emerald eyes never breaking away from his partner. Even in that moment – regardless of the lashing out - the Axxilan never shifted in where he stood. He was stubborn and unwavering by his very nature, and he reaffirmed exactly where he stood with Emryc as strongly as he had done so multiple times in the past.

Jaikus knew exactly who his partner was. He knew how little the half-Sephi had a capacity for empathy, and he knew exactly how flawed and imperfect the half-Sephi was in other ways. It was all something that Emryc had been straightforward about multiple times in the past, and never claimed to be anything other than he was. And it was precisely why Jaikus embraced his partner for all of his flaws.

He stared up at his partner, listening as the half-Sephi muttered that quiet apology. Almost immediately, the Axxilan’s own expression softened in response. “It’s alright,” He said quietly, though there was nothing dismissive about the Axxilan’s tone. He clearly noted the remorse and genuineness that was reflected in those words that spoke volumes, and Emryc would know that Jaikus too meant every word he said.

Jaikus listened quietly when Emryc spoke again, explaining that he needed time. Whatever his own desires to have Emryc by his side during this search, the Axxilan understood that this was all new territory his partner. In that moment, he understood that it was something that his partner needed time to process and fully come to terms with, and the combination of their living together and meeting his family was a lot to handle all at once.

There was an immediate sense of guilt that briefly spiked within Jaikus chest, the realization that had inadvertently been the cause of that spike of anxiety stinging him deeply. “I understand.” He said softly, meeting those gold-tinted silvers. He knew that finding Hatice was something he would need to do on his own, and he accepted that fact.

After a moment, the Axxilan reached forward – once more loosely finding his partner’s hand. He gave a faint squeeze of his fingers, serving as a reminder that even now, he would not push his partner away. “I will stand by you, Emryc, as for much time as you need. Whether that is living together, or anything else. You’re my partner.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”
