Max had been distracted from what had, genuinely, been a lovely moment with Alex because the runaway droid decided to try and introduce his privates to the droid's dome at speed. It was enough that he immediately started thinking very un-jedi-like thoughts in regards to the damnable droid. Grunting a little bit, he did his best to clear his mind of those thoughts as the pain started to fade.

"Never thought I needed to include a cup..."
he muttered to himself, giving her a dirty look at her laughter that he couldn't stop from changing to a smile of his own, "Laugh it up Alex... laugh it up..."

Shaking his head, he stood upright again and did his best to shake his legs, trying to work out the remaining, lingering, elements of pain. Good enough for him to be moving on he thought to himself. He managed a grin.

"I think I'm going to need some time to heal from this mission."
he agreed with a laugh, "Haven't been hit there since I was a cop... ugh..."

Max reached out and took Alex's hand in his own again, giving it a gentle squeeze. He pulled her in closer and wrapped an arm around her shoulders and smiled.

"No one I'd rather spend time with, even with the mission ending how it did."

Eventually she stopped laughing. It would have been far too unprofessional to continue. The smile never left her face as Max managed to right himself. Alex gladly allowed herself to be pulled in close. Her ribs still burned from the blaster bolt, but it was honestly barely a thought. “We could always try less life-threatening situations.” She looked sideways into his eyes. The droid beeping away as it followed. “Although…you might find me boring then.” Another quiet laugh bubbled up. “We simply could not have that.” Alex sank a little deeper into his arm.

“To think, we almost had a tender moment.” She looked up at him again. What was this feeling. She smiled, leaned in, and kissed the mighty Jedi Councilor. In that moment, she could not imagine her life any other way. In that moment, she felt content, happy, and whole. The Force had been right all along. She simply had to take a leap of faith. “I’ll always have your back…I’ll always be there.” Her smile turned from amusement to something else. “I’m not afraid anymore, Max.” She almost surprised to find it true.

“I know this is where I am meant to be, this is the path we are meant to be on. Together.” He had pushed her to fully embrace her path. To face those fears that had held her back for so long. They felt so small now, so foolish. Alex felt more herself in this moment than she ever had ever. It was a moment she wished could last a lifetime. She could not even think of life somehow different. This was what the Force had meant for them. To guide the Order and each other. The Jedi Master smiled again. What could possible go wrong?

Max could honestly say that he had felt true contentment, true happiness, in fits and starts throughout his life. Never had they been continuous and he had come to believe that they were not meant to be. That the best way to live life was to enjoy the moments that brought those feelings to the fore because they would always be fleeting. But this? This wasn't fleeting. The emotions that he felt, the happiness that he enjoyed just by having Alex close?

That wasn't fleeting, it was strong, it was lasting.

"If the Force ever stopped giving us work to do, I think we'd still find ways to entertain ourselves."
he assured her with a softer smile, "Try something slow for once. Just to see if we like it of course..."

He had kissed before and he had been kissed before - and none of them were the equal of the one he found himself enjoying in the remains of a gunfight, surrounded by unconscious enemies and a droid that had attacked him. It wasn't perfect, the ground didn't shake and there was no explosion of passion that came from it.

Just a subtle shifting deep inside his chest that turned everything on its head. Allowed him to truly be happy for the first time in a long time because, for the first time in his life, something was just plain, pure and Right. Everything about it just felt so inescapably right that he couldn't help it when he came in for a second, shorter, kiss.

"Then let's start walking my dear... til the end of the line and beyond, Alex."
