The N-series security droids are the latest in a line of
NalTomation ( a subsidiary of Nalju Technologies) attempts to improve on old Separatist droid models. The Nighthawk takes its cues from the likes of the famous 'Droideka' units deployed by the likes of the Trade Federation and the Separatist Droid Army centuries ago.
These black droids are shaped like an amalgamation of an owl and a bat. They are designed to act as outside building security or to escort VIPs en route to important events/locations in a potentially dangerous situation. In the former scenario, they can use their singular mechanical foot to hang upside down around the perimeter of a designated building/location and use their singular eye to monitor the perimeter. If danger is detected, they can easily unfurl their metallic wings and fly with their integrated repulsor technology to chase down threats, firing down on them with their singular dual laser cannon, located just beneath the main eye. N-series security droids lack precision targeting technology, but they make up for this by being able to swarm a target and overwhelm them with fire.
In the latter scenario, Nighthawks can be assigned to a VIP or group of VIPs in bulk and positioned around the target in question. Should danger arise, they can immediately fold their wings, which can then become coated in a ray shield similar to those deployed by Droideka units. While in their 'shield mode,' Blackhawks cannot move or fire their weaponry (as it is covered by their wings). These shields are capable of deflecting all but heavy blaster fire, making them a potent insurance policy to have around.
Blackhawks have two known exploits. Like Droidekas, concussion grenades and droid poppers are effective against their shields. Their singular red eye is also a vulnerability. Piercing the eye with a projectile or blunt object will render the droid inoperable. Blackhawks are most commonly sold to large corporations for protection, local security forces, or even planetary militias, though they are not designed to be use in an active war situation.
Illegal. N-series security droids can also be classified as heavy combat droids, which are heavily regulated by interstellar law. Special license may be granted to corporations and military factions intent on using them, but they are illegal for personal use.
Yes. This droid is a heavy combat model designed for wealthy corporations and military organizations, and cannot be operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain this particular droid model.
