  • 1. Product of Greed & Passion

Fotu Cha, a member of the Pantoran senate, was a very popular and well-liked man among his people. As he rose in popularity, his party saw the potential in him and reckoned he would be a great candidate to represent them in the next election for assembly chairman. To this end, the party leaders wished to conduct a thorough investigation into his activities, to ensure they are putting their faith in the right candidate. Although the names of the potential candidates and their corresponding background verification processes were supposed to be confidential information, Fotu somehow managed to glean the information from trusted channels.

In reality, Fotu was a vile, corrupt man, who partook in horrendous crimes to consolidate the fame and power that he had. When he realized his party would soon begin to scrutinize him, he knew he had to clean up his act and deal with all the loose-ends that he had left hanging. Unfortunately, one such ‘loose-end’ was a naive young journalist, Uru Kant.

Like many other Pantorans, Uru too had fallen for Fotu’s good-guy act. The two met often owing to their line of work, and eventually, the relationship took a romantic turn despite the fact that Fotu was already married. Fotu never loved Uru, but only seduced her into becoming his mistress because she held great influence in Pantoran media. Fotu knew his political career would take a dive if his secret got exposed to the people, and he decided to cover it up.

Fotu hired a bounty hunter to kill Uru. He knew her death wouldn’t come as too much of a shock to anyone, given that she was an investigative journalist who had made many enemies during her career. One night, when Uru was asleep in her room, the bounty hunter sneaked in and attempted to take her life. However, after hearing an unnaturally vivid warning in her sleep, she woke up just in time to save herself from the killing blow. The bounty hunter was taken by surprise and Uru used that to her advantage; she reached for the blaster she hid in her bed-side table and shot the bounty hunter, killing him.

When Uru searched the dead bounty hunter’s belongings, looking for clues as to who wanted her dead, she finally learned the true nature of Fotu. A heartbroken and angry Uru felt the need for revenge and justice. However, she knew she had a bigger responsibility—to save the child she was carrying. She was certain Fotu would only want to kill her sooner if he knew that she was pregnant with his child. She saw no option but to run from her home to escape his vicinity.

Boarding her trusty Kazellis light freighter, Uru escaped to Lahn, where she had a close friend—a Nautolan called Jiet—who could help her hide from her past. It was in Lahn where Neel was born.

    2. Unfinished Business

When Neel was three years old, Uru received news that Fotu was selected as the lead candidate and his campaign was going very well back in Pantora. Knowing that her ex-lover would be catastrophic to the democracy of Pantora if he was allowed to win, Uru decided to return to her home and expose his true colors to her people. Leaving Neel with Jiet, Uru left for Pantora, promising to return immediately after her mission.

After reaching Pantora, Uru’s path crossed with a Jedi Knight. It would seem the Jedi Council had sensed that Fotu was not what he seemed, and had sent their representative to investigate. With the help of each other, the two managed to expose Fotu’s crimes and bring him to justice. Unfortunately, before Fotu was imprisoned, he had learned of Uru’s return and sent another bounty hunter after her. A violent encounter ensued between the Jedi Knight and the bounty hunter. Despite being severely injured, the bounty hunter managed to get a fatal blaster shot into Uru before fleeing.

A dying Uru requested the Jedi Knight to deliver the unfortunate news to her friend Jiet in Lahn. Upon reaching Lahn and meeting with Jiet, the Jedi Knight sensed that Neel was a force-sensitive and offered to take the child with him—to be trained as a Jedi.

    3. A Reason To Hate

Neel proved to be quite intelligent and strong with the force. Even as a youngling, he impressed his instructors with his quick mastery of the lessons and eagerness to learn more. Despite his academic success—or perhaps because of it—Neel found it extremely difficult to make friends with the other younglings. Disheartened with his failed attempts to befriend his mates, the young Pantoran became withdrawn and began spending more time tinkering with droids or reading books at the Jedi archives.

Early in his teens, when he was about to become a Padawan, Neel traveled to Lahn to learn of his past. Ever since his childhood, Neel had been haunted often by vague visions of a dying woman. Knowing he was dreaming of his mother’s last moments, his Master thought it would be best he learned of his past so that he could put it behind him and move on. Neel met with his mother’s friend Jiet in Lahn, who still lived in Lahn.

Jiet told Neel that she was expecting him to return one day, and told Neel all about his mother. She also gave Neel his mother’s blaster pistol and her Kazellis ship. Hearing of his mother’s legacy, Neel developed a subconscious dislike towards all politicians. This began to show during his Jedi training, where he would treat senators and other politicians with disdain. Seeing that the otherwise calm and nurturing Padawan turned particularly anxious and irate around politicians, his master became worried that he might be pulled to the dark side. To avoid such a tragedy, Neel was kept away from politicians as much as possible. This meant, he seldom went on diplomatic missions and was mostly dealing with smugglers and other low-lives.

Now nineteen, Neel is eagerly waiting for the day when his Master would deem him worthy to take on the Jedi Knight trials. However, the young Padawan is yet to understand that, to truly become a Jedi, he must let go of his past and the hate he is harboring, for it might consume him otherwise.

  • The first thing anyone would notice upon interacting with Neel is how kind and humble he is. He is truly taken by the Jedi teachings and does not deviate easily from the primary goal of defending the innocents. Neel avoids violence as much as he can, attempting to solve any confrontation peacefully. However, given that he often deals with trigger-happy criminals, this seldom works. When he is forced to engage in combat, he tries to keep the fight short with little bloodshed. Unless known to be a serious threat, he focuses on disarming or knocking out the target, rather than deal a killing stroke.

Having spent most of his childhood training, reading, and tinkering with droids, Neel grew up to be a bit socially awkward. He has trouble making small-talk and tends to be quiet unless he has something important to say. He does open up to people that he has grown close to over a long period; and when he does, he tends to crack silly jokes. Thankfully, it is only his Master who had to suffer those, so far.

Even as a youngling, Neel was curious to learn more about the force and the history of Jedi. Seeing his intelligence and eagerness, his instructors and eventually his Master, taught him a great deal, but also warned him of the allure of the dark side. Leashing his curiosity and refraining from exploring the side of the force that was so seductive proved rather difficult in the early stages of his training. But with guidance from his Master, he had learned restraint over the years.

Neel was rather disturbed upon learning the fate of his mother when he was young. Ever since, he has harbored a vehement dislike towards all politicians, and it is in their company that his strong Jedi ideals begin to lose foothold. His Master has sensed this in him and has so far sheltered him from succumbing to this hatred by keeping him away from politics as much as possible. However, sooner or later, Neel is bound to encounter the system, and when he does, he must make a choice.

  • Combat

    Lightsaber

    ■■■■
Neel has trained extensively in lightsaber combat as part of his Jedi training. Particularly, he shows real promise in Form V, Shien. While he is also trained to fight with a single lightsaber and a saberstaff, his most comfortable style is to dual-wield, with his off-hand saber set to be shorter than his main-hand saber.
    Hand-to-Hand

    ■■■■■
He has been trained in hand-to-hand combat as well. However, given his small stature, he has focused primarily on defending and maneuvering out of locks rather than inflicting damage. When unarmed, his primary focus is on defense and he tends to take far fewer chances than when he is equipped with his saber.
    Blasters

    ■■■■■
He has had no real training with blasters. His expertise in the matter comes mostly from his experience with smugglers and slavers, when he was very young. That, coupled with the good old force-sensitive intuition makes him a decent shot.
    Daggers

    ■■■■■
He carries a Vibroblade with him, and was forced to use it for combat on a few occasions. Other than that, he has had barely any training or experience fighting with daggers.
    Miscellaneous

    ■■■■
While aware of the various other kinds of weapons available in the market, Neel’s knowledge about these are simply academic, and he has no real experience with them.
    Technical

    Slicing

    ■■■■■
Neel has a natural talent with technology. He has spent countless hours reprogramming droids and control panels, and is quite capable of penetrating most security systems given enough time.
    Piloting

    ■■■■
He received his mother’s ship—Eon’s Whisper—from Jiet, when he was just thirteen. Ever since then, he had piloted the ship in many situations; sometimes, without even a co-pilot. He also gained experience piloting starfighters during a few rare missions along with his Master.
    Ship Maintenance

    ■■■■■
He has first-hand experience refitting and maintaining his Kazellis-class light freighter. He is very familiar with the common parts of freighter-class starships and their functions. However, his knowledge on other classes of ships are purely academic.
    Practical

    Survival

    ■■■■■
Neel has acquired basic survival skills as part of his Jedi training.
    Tracking

    ■■■■
Beyond the basic training given, his proficiency with technology and his force-sensitive intuition makes him quite good at tracking targets.
    Hunting

    ■■■■■
He developed the basic hunting skills as part of his Jedi training. However, he tends to calm animals with the force whenever possible, and only hunts when absolutely necessary.
    Languages

    Galactic Basic

    ■■■■■
It is the most common language in the galaxy, and Neel is quite fluent with it.
    Nautila

    ■■■■
Neel learned to speak Nautila during his early years in Lahn, when he was with his mother’s Nautolan friend, Jiet.
    Huttese

    ■■■■
Most of Neel’s missions involved chasing after the gangsters of the Hutt space along with his Master. It is no wonder that he has become quite proficient with it.
    Droidspeak

    ■■■■■
Having spent most of his free time repairing and modding the junkyard droids in the Jedi academy, Neel has come to understand the droid’s binary speak rather well.
    Rodian

    ■■■■■
Neel is capable of reading Rodian scripture, but is still far from being able to converse in the language.
    Ryl

    ■■■■■
After a few infrequent conversations with fellow Twi’lek Jedi, Neel has come to understand them, but cannot effectively communicate back in their language yet.
    Command

    Tactics

    ■■■■■
Neel’s intelligence shines particularly in this department. Time and again, he has proven to be a cunning and deceptive tactician, be it in one-on-one combat, piloting, or troop command.
    Espionage

    ■■■■■
He has received the required training. However, he prefers to be the front-line defense and tends to blow his cover whenever he sees someone to be in danger.
    Politics

    ■■■■
It is less a lack of aptitude, and more an intense dislike for politicians that has kept Neel away from learning the intricacies of politics.

  • Weapons

A pair of dual-phase split lightsabers. Both lightsabers have two turquoise kyber crystals, allowing Neel to adjust the blade length. They can be dual-wielded, or be attached pommel-to-pommel to form a saberstaff.
A common vibroblade. Neel carries this more for utility than for combat, employing it in situations where a lightsaber could be too flashy or attention-seeking.
The blaster pistol that belonged to Neel's mother. After he joined the Jedi Order and began his training, he has found very little use for it. However, he still keeps it as a reminder of the past. Despite its lack of use, Neel cleans and maintains the pistol ritualistically. It is holstered in his utility belt, to his right side.
    Ammo

    DE-10 Cartridges
Neel carries two additional cartridges for his DE-10 Blaster Pistol. They are stowed away in one of the compartments in his utility belt.
    Droids

A BA-10 unit that was deemed beyond repair after a catastrophic mission and thrown into the junkyard behind the Jedi training grounds. Neel picked it up and took it upon himself to repair it. After almost an year, he finally managed to make the droid fully functional again.
    Ships

An ancient Kazellis-Class Light Freighter that belonged to Neel's mother. The ship has seen much better days, and should have been junked decades ago. But, Neel has scoured the galaxy to find the right parts—or the equivalent—to keep her running.
    Miscellaneous

    Utility Belt
Neel wears an old, worn, leather utility belt under his vest, where he stows his weapons and tools.
    Portable Datapad
A small portable datapad to store and view information.
    Basic Tools
Neel carries a few essential portable tools to perform simple repairs and maintenance on his droid and blaster.
