Hi,
My name is John, and I am new around here. I am building a character so i can jump in and play with you guys. I have read the Character Creation thread, and that was awesome. I just have a few questions for you guys;

How did you all decide on your species? I have been Text Based RPing for almost 10 years now, and this always seems to be my issue. (Lol)

Also, I am creating a Jedi character, is it possible to create a second Jedi as my Knight's Padawan Learner?

Welcome to the site, and I'm glad your making a Jedi, everyone loves Jedi.

For myself, I always find an image that inspires me to create a character. Then I just try to find a species I think fits the image, doing my best to avoid human characters as humans are boring to me. I recently went into depth on my personal character creation process where I took an random image from my collection and brainstormed character ideas, feel free to read it over here: Link. I even ended up falling in love with the character idea so much that I actually made her into a character, here is a link to her profile if you want to read her over.

Personally, I would avoid this, instead I'd look into finding someone you can RP with to fill that role, it'll be far more rewarding in the long run as well. If you did go this route though, I'd have them be an NPC, though that has it's own list of issues as NPCs are useless for the most part outside of serving a main character's plot.

Thank you for the advice! I like to avoid humans as well. I have a few character ideas that i am thinking on using.

Ok thanks. That is a good idea. Maybe after I get used to the way you guys play here I will look into that.

Always feel free to ask more questions, as well as share your own RP style, most here are willing to try everything at least twice.

Thanks! I probably will. Once I figure out a species I will be able to get the bio completed.

Another question:
I was looking some of the story threads, and was wondering why the dialoge is colored. Is there a thread that explains the style of writing?

Colored dialogue is style choice. Not everyone colors text nor is it required

I prefer to color dialog because it makes it easier to keep track of which character is speaking. I also use italics when a character is thinking something rather than speaking. Keeps dialog clean and less confusing.

As a quick side note, we don't have Padawans since we aren't the Jedi Order. Initiate is the equivalent rank. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

To add my two cents, I agree on making the Initiate a NPC. Since the site max on characters is three, making the Initiate a PC would limit your ability to get involved in threads that aren't Jedi related. The downside of NPCs is that they can be directly attacked and killed by other players characters. This should not necessarily be a problem however, as you can always participate in battle or PvP threads without the Initiate while still bringing the youngling on missions and include them in your character's story.

Species are like colors in the rainbow and characters like flags. When you want to build a flag for a no nonsense, serious country like China, you use golden stars and a lot of bold red to get your seriousness across. Like how in Star Wars everyone important is a human with strong quirks and either a bad attitude or a near constant whine with everything they say.

I find though, for role playing, to pick what you find the most hilarious. Like a hissing, face eating trandoshan or a dapper Rodian. Don't be the United States flag with its stupid Stars and Stripes, be the North Caucasian Emirate.
