'New impetus' toward ISC army as Naboo rearms.

Voren Dhur, Correspondent

With the prospect of a combined and centralised army in the ISC now closer to reality following a historic summit of member states, remilitarisation is the name of the game across the sector.

The administration of Queen Parnelli (Naboo) is putting pressure on some member worlds of the ISC to be less dependent on her world, and Bestine, for their defence.

Parnelli, who attended the ISC summit last weekend, has already begun work on a new military unit on her homeworld, matching the spending expectations of the wider ISC program.

Over the weekend, President Thorne cited the ineffectiveness of past military structures as an example of why such a new force was required in the ISC.

The President said: “I will come outright and state that I absolutely do not agree with the concept of individual planetary militaries, not when some of our worlds are very impoverished. We see the Free World Alliance using this model and it has not been serving them well.”

“I propose that we form a unified military...I propose that we appoint a Secretary of Defense to oversee this military force.”

Welcoming the news, Governor Julia Hipori, newly appointed Secretary for Intergalactic Affairs, said: “We have held multiple meetings with member states in the past few days, and are delighted to see Naboo leading by example on this exciting and much needed new initiative.”

Meanwhile, opponents to the scheme have stuck out at the plans, with Fing Hannigan of the Center for Galactic Affairs saying: “We have seen centralised armed forces in the past, and the ISC is following the same path, it is becoming more and more like a state in its own right, rather than a membership organisation.”

He went on to say: “Questions need to be asked as to why they [the President] are seeking to militarise the ISC.”

Opposition to the move is by far the minority of voices, however, with a new impetus toward the ISC army apparent, as Naboo rearms.
