After this Ando Prime disaster, we're going to embark on some shooty-killy stuff. I'm back for real, by the way. All my real-life issues have been resolved. Who's up for fun?

there is a cease fire at the moment so no shoot shoot hutts just yet. Pirates and other scum are fair game though.

Ceasefires don't apply to us, haha. I'm fully ready to take out a sensitive Hutt target. It would be more of an NPC-hunting deal, though, to get us all used to working with each other.

Also, we're doing a co-op mission with some Jedi against some Bogan. Sometime soon.

hehe, well the cease fire does...as of now ( not counting the missions Ru is leading against a crime syndicate) because it was in place to allow us some time to regroup and rebuild the republic after the assassinations, and for the time jump.

that and it's an executive order...to use the time to cross train with Jedi, naval forces and put the simulators to use and brush up on things...which is exactly why I set those up.

to keep busy during the cease fire

and it's a good thing, our fleets are being held together with packing tape and gum at this point >.<

paying to have 90% of the Republic navy replaced with updated craft in the long run is cheaper than paying for the search and recovery of you guys and paying benifits to next of kin when the hull wall inthe refresher unit suddenly looses integrity and sucks you pantless out into the void.

I do have to budget you know :P

dont worry though I have nice sets of orders brewing for Solag, and will be giving them some new toys to play with courtesy of Jayd Enterprises and some fun new protocols to go with it that would see them used to their proper design.

They actually don't apply to S13. :bitchez:bitchez:bitchez

And that's the key distinction too.

Sector 13 is covert to the extreme. For all intents and purposes, they don't exist. SOLAG, on the other hand, is an official documented part of the Galactic Republic. They can be traced back to the Republic if they were to make any moves against the Hutts, whereas Sector 13 can't be traced back.

If the Hutts were to find out that S.O.L.A.G. was behind the strikes, of course. Which they'd only do if we messed up.

Considering covert warfare is part of our initial mandate upon creation, I feel confident in our ability to take out a freighter or two without leaving a trail back to the Republic.

I can't see Adena letting it happen. The Republic is at a serious disadvantage before the jump. Santoro could easily **** some shit up, pardon my French, if he was so inclined. However, he's been EXTREMELY generous in agreeing to a cease fire.

Adena's not going to double cross him.

Wouldn't it be reasonable, post Time Jump, to act as if the four years of 'peace' had indeed seen a fair bit of covert action by SOLAG/S13 on the Republic side, and Darksaber/Taung (those would be the relative equivalents right?) on the Hutt side.

I mean, yes, a peace treaty is a peace treaty, but just look at the actual Cold War of the 20th century. Both the CIA and KGB, as well as several other agencies, were anything but quiet during those 'peaceful' years.

There would be intelligence gathering, and the write up even mentions that, but as far as covert attacks go that would be up to Adena.

To be perfectly honest, I think it would be ridiculous if we didn't sabotage everything the Hutts had in the meantime. I mean, come on; peace-time is a ruse, an excuse for politicians to save face and finally act like they're doing something. Peace is only real in the eyes of the public. Why sit pretty and wait for the green light when there's nothing stopping us from disrupting the enemy?

Hell, look at our history in Earth. Spies and covert groups are sometimes more active during peace time than they are during war.

My main point is that I'd like to think that S.O.L.A.G. is mature enough to kick some ass without getting caught by Daddy Senate. This would make for interesting roleplay, no?

Main point is they are still a military branch, special ops, yes, but still tied to all the same trappings and such as any other branch. They are still outranked and reliant on the higher branches, such as Commodore, General, high general, vice admiral, admiral, Grand Admiral etc etc.

any employment of them is still on record. They ARE the best at what they do, hence why they get special training, to better do things that others cannot.

yet they are not S-13 who operates totally on the outside.

The deep things like sabotaging and gathering intel on darksaber, or other things deep in hutt space is in the hands of S-13. A single agent can get in easily,

Solag during this time will be spending alot of time with Jedi, fighting with and against them to better learn to deal with Bogan, and getting adjusted to their new equipment I'll be writing up in abit.

in field some are dealing with what is an ongoing spat with a crime syndicate to keep busy, most of their operations as it relates to the Hutts would be establishing communication lines and bolstering the boarder defenses by aiding in security at the moment.

Yes they may make small attacks on things the Hutts may do that breach the treaty, such as illegal shipping operations.

but right now.. and this needs to be hevaily heavily stressed,

the state of the Republic is NOT strong enough to support anything that would trigger a retaliation.

civil unrest, problems in the senate, rebuilding and replacing 50 year old+ equipment of our entire military force, having to dedicate alot to bolstering our defenses along the trade spines away from key worlds to keep the Hutts from being able to make those direct planetary assaults...

this is burning our budget to bare bones at the moment. So anything that would draw attention or the wrath of the Hutts is ill-advised as we just can-not afford to pull it off right now.

this will be changing naturally OVER the course of the time skip, and when it comes back they should have no problems getting orders for the more fun stuff.

SOLAG was based on the Alliance special ops from Mass Effect. Even though Shepard is N7, s/he still falls under the normal procedures of the Alliance military.

on the same ME mindset S-13 are closer to Spectures though utterly unknown to the outside.

With all due respectnote, have you read our overview? Do you know exactly how S.O.L.A.G. is structured, how it operates? Because so far, a lot of what you've been saying is directly contradicting our operating procedure, unless you've fully re-purposed me and my men from the original covert vision Jiang had of our group.

To quote from our original operational overview:
SOLAG is an irregular military force and thus is not bound by traditional military or civilian, meaning that they can be deployed on Republic soil without the Chancellor’s direct approval.
Under another part of the same post:
Note that SOLAG operatives are generally assumed to be outside the usual military chain of command, and will often refuse or ignore orders given by local commanders. This is not out of disrespect for the rest of the military, but rather SOLAG recognizing that their missions take priority and they can’t let their operatives fall under the jurisdiction of any other branch.
Emphasis is mine.

With that being said, I don't intend to lead my men in a full-scale assault on Hutt property, but I do intend to lead sabotage missions, to make little cuts at the beast. We never leave ties to the Republic anyway - we're no idiots - but I won't be reduced to sitting pretty when this group was originally intended to be a balls-to-the-wall crowd of badasses who kick ass and take names without the Republic parenting them.

I know we've only got three weeks to the time skip, but I'm fully willing to lead some sabotage missions, providing I get enough interest from people.

Note: I know that saying 'with all due respect' doesn't mean much when I'm still sounding like a jackass, but sitting back and playing dead because our side is at a disadvantage isn't what I signed up for. No offense intended.

EDIT: And, this is going off-topic, but S.O.L.A.G. is nothing like N7 because N7 is completely under the rank and file of the Systems Alliance. They're nothing but highly-trained soldiers. My highly-trained soldiers are completely outside of Republic jurisdiction. We're like Sector 13, but badass.

I said based on the alliance as when talking to jaing that's where he specified where they were developed off of hence why I mentioned it. :P Im sure it was modified, but there has been issues needing fixed, I'll mention below.

By the ranking command structure, it applies that lesser commissioned officers have no direct authority, that is true.... but a SOLAG sergeant will still have to take orders from a General, or an admiral if that is where they are assigned to assist with. they will however have much broader leeway than others under that. other than that the grand admiral and chancellor are still the highest and 90% of orders would come from there anyway.

That being said other Admirals/generals need to request to " borrow" solag anyway

The problem is coming as this. Solag keeps trying to do things designed for S-13.....S-13 keeps trying to be like Solag at times

thus there is a problem that it makes one of the groups redundant and stepping onto each others toes and creating a headache.

If I do have to re-write it to reflect that I would be more than happy to

Solag are the bad ass heavy fists of the Republic. When they are on the ground you know things are serious, and it's important. thus they are best utilized in and with the military as is. Treated much like Rangers/Seals etc

yes they will have alot of black ops things that are not on the books but in order to maintain both branches there HAS to be a line drawn in the sand.

No. We don't take orders from anyone, and that's how it's been from the beginning. I'm not throwing a tantrum, I'm just stating fact; when we were created, it was under the mandate that we are outside normal Republic chain of command. The Chancellor can ask us to do things, but we are in no way obliged to follow through. We have complete operational control. That's just how we were built.

Then merge the groups - we'll be more active that way - or do something like that. Make S.O.L.A.G. the combat arm of S-13. Re-write our purpose if you want to. But, as it is right now, understand that we're fully separate from Republic command chains and have the ability to charge forth at any time. Obviously, I won't do this out of respect for you OOC, but IC, we've got the right to.

If you'd like to draft a new manifesto for the S.O.L.A.G., I'll be glad to help. And I agree that we don't want to have two factions fulfilling the exact same purpose. I just don't fancy being stifled and told that every ability I was given before has now been revoked due to a change in command.

I want to add this on a second post just so it's not lost

basically the biggest reason it needs to be done like this is an OOC one

but thats my biggest thing.. SOLAG and s-13 are almost indistinguishable sometimes in what they can do... and while real world wise.. yeah having the mixed talent would be great...

In a RP setting hit's much much harder because it takes away play opportunity from one or the other.

to be able to validate both groups ability to perform and function one needs to be focused more on the espionage and subterfuge, the other the harder and more sensitive combat

this would create a distinction between branches, and allow more RP's specifically tailored for one group or the other to be created.

as you can tell this has been a headache from day one oocly I will admit Im getting so much feedback, concerns etc in all directions " scrap solag, scrap s-13, merge them, make them more different, make s-13 public , no dont make them public. " that Im really needing as much time as I can be aforded to get a balance.
