That makes sense, but I recall that it was determined by the Think Tank for timeline 5 (I'm never sure, but every time I read the thread in the story forum I also get the feeling that I wrote a decent chunk of it). Also, I'm pretty sure a lot of Think Tank members (myself included) have suggestions for modifications to the rules/systems leading into timeline 6. Personally, I think it only makes sense that the TT offer that kind of feedback as well. After each timeline is the best opportunity to make the necessary changes (partly based off player feedback, and the TT are selected from the player base to represent them) to ensure that the next one will be more successful.
Technology has evolved to become a serious problem for the site since the start of the fifth timeline, so we're not doing things the same way. That's why Clayton has spent the last few months developing new rules for technology. We'll incorporate feedback, but this announcement will not be like the Mandalorian one. It will be more like the character limit one, where we are establishing what the new rules are - not asking if people are cool with it.

We also need the think tank to focus on story development. You can provide ideas for tech, but we will not be making it a focus or important element of the think tank. We have a limited amount of time and we have specific goals we need to accomplish, so just make sure your expectations are set that the think tank isn't an open-ended discussion forum where every possible topic will be up for discussion. Just the things that we need the think tank to accomplish.

I'm anxious to see what the ruling will be on technology. I'm planning on having @Breeso 's character be a cyborg assistant to mine. I don't plan on god modding him but at the same time I'm treading lightly before someone says I can't do it.

I can say now that being a cyborg will be allowed. We're not removing the use of technology or saying you can't do quintessentially Star Wars things like being a cyborg. As Clayton will lay out in his announcement, though, the use of technology has been abused, particularly in combat, and there's too much emphasis on it. That's not how things used to be on the site, and is very much of a development of this timeline and poor regulation on the staff's part for several years now, so we want to take things back a notch to how they used to be, when it was more manageable. A new timeline affords us the opportunity to do that, rather than disrupting the status quo of a current timeline.

I used to be a champion of the User-created technology, but please, please remove that; or get really restrictive on how much tech not included already in canon can be put on things. People worry too much about the capabilities of a gun; when it boils down to it the caliber of the bullet matters less than the quality of the post and the applicability of the tactics. It's worse in starship combat where people don't even understand the fundamental principles of the technology they're using, they just read a really cool blurb on defencetalk.com and think they know everything about CIWS and stealth and what not.

I don't want to speak too much for Clayton since he will have the tech announcement hopefully today, but user-created tech will be a lot more regulated than it has been in the past.

One request on technology - can we eliminate interdictor fields except when called for by plot and agreed to by both parties? I feel that a big reason space battles struggled this timeline was 1. techspam made fighter combat ridiculously deadly and 2. interdictor fields made withdrawing from combat impossible. If we want characters to take more risks, we have to diminish the deadliness of those risks. Risk-Reward needs to be more balanced. A hyper-drive retreat should take several posts to effectuate anyways, but this timeline's space battles were either win or die/get captured.

Let's save that question for the announcement.

Interdictor fields I believe we're created during the Empire time, so there wouldn't be any in this era.

While not true in Legends the recent Rebels episode certainly suggests that interdiction ships weren't a thing until the Empire.

As you guys will see in my announcement (hopefully up by tonight) we're taking a couple big steps backwards in regards to technology. Until then, your tech questions really aren't going to get much of an answer.

I will rally some opposition for whatever you post. Just for you, buddy. Just. For. You.

Tech really needed to be throttled back anyway.

And my Vibro Axe.
And my Bowcaster...

#Trool.

but yeah seriously, looking forward to what the new Tech is going to be. Hopefully it will be more emphasized on the quality of the tech and what it contributes to the overall lore rather than what its stats are.

BOWCASTER.

Dammit man, you had one job!

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Clearly I said Bowcaster

*pretends he didn't edit it all innocent like*

but again seriously it would be nice that the tech is more like "Oh this is the top of the line of so and soe's tech labs" rather than "this has 61+ attack power than your so and so's +55" not exactly what goes down around here but you get the picture :D

EDIT: Especially when it comes to individuals who want to make generic tech rather than specialized stuff!

What would be nice, frankly, is as Saul said: severely nerfing the amount of player-created tech that gets put out because it's been used for vastly more evil than good.

Half the tech is anyways never really used. People come up with outlandishly OP armor and weapons and never participate in a PvP thread, making the tech completely pointless. A step back, limiting what users can me, would definitely be a good idea. But yeah, I too shall be with Kyle in opposing whatever you put forward. :)
