New to the forum but not to SW RP

Hello everyone,

My name is Andy and I am really excited to become a member of this Star Wars community. I have participated in SW RP off and on for over 10 years with most (correction; all) of my experience being from a 64 bit roleplay game called Furcadia. Their RP style differs from forums so it may take me some time to adjust. I am also without a computer for a time (I am currently typing this up on my phone), but am looking to get it back from repairs aoon. Until then, let me tell you a bit about myself:

I am an avid Star Wars fan and as I've said, participated in SW RP for quite some time. I used to run a continuity that existed in various timelines (some in the old republic like this forum, others several hundred years after the EU). I work as a 3D modeler for hearing aids, but my passion is writing and my dream is to one day share my stories with the world. Until then, I love to write and want to get back into it through RPing here with you guys.

I hope to get to know all of you soon and will be working on my character soon (or at least post my app as im already working on my character now).

I hope I lose the battle I'm in with you, have my character get taken prisoner, join the Sith, and then be the last Sith alive at the end of the timeline just so I can quote this back at you.

Thanks for the welcomes! I was scouting several forums and was rather excited when i saw how active this site is. I do have a couple questions for starters.

1) can anyone give ne the rundown on the history of this forum such as how long its been up, etc?

2) I'm interested in making two characters mainly; a jedi padawan (likely a squib) and a sith. Can someone enlighten me on how fast time goes ICly? One of the forums I visited was eight years old and in the span of eight years, only progressed their story 3 years IC. Finding out the pace here will help me decide on the age of my character, but im hoping to start them young

1- The new time line has been going since about the Jan/Feb. As to a rundown of history, someone else will have to help with that. There's so much going on that it's difficult to really know everything.

2- You can't do both. There is a one main faction rule, meaning you can join the Sith, or the Jedi, or the Republic. You can have up to two characters in that main faction. And you have a slot for a third character that can go into the Indie groups. As to time... there's not really a way time flows here, from what I understand. I wouldn't start them out too young and a lot of people would hazard against starting them out as a Padawan or an Acolyte. However, that is up to you and if you want do so. However, I wouldn't go younger than the teen years.

1) A while. Going on 11 years, I think. This is actually the sixth timeline we're in now, the previous one having been set 1,000 years after Return of the Jedi.

2) Time passes at your own rate really. For some, they work faster with their characters and see changes quicker, others slower. Promotion from Padawan to Knight (which you are free to start as a Knight if you wish, by the by) is based more so on your IC contributions to the faction than any arbitrary passage of time.

I should inform you, however, that you are only allowed to join one main faction at a time - with any two of your three characters being permitted to join. A third would need to be an Independent. Meaning you wouldn't be able to have both your Sith and your Padawan, you would need to choose which one you prefer over the other. That's not to say you can't switch sides later on, but you will really need to consider that choice as any additional Jedi/Sith characters you have would need to be archived to change the allegiance of the other.

Ah, so i cant have a jedi and sith, but i can have two jedi or a jedi and a republic trooper, etc? Interesting. And if i have two jedi but one starts to fall to the dark side, does that mean i have to archive my republic characters to rp the fallen jedi?

No. You can have two Jedi or two Sith or Two Republic characters. The Republic and the Jedi are not the same faction. And yes if you have two jedi and one falls, you'd have to archive your other Jedi to join the sith if that is what you intended to do.
