It was time to finally go on another project she had been delaying for a few months now.

The good Doctor prided herself on her general intelligence, but when it came to actually doing projects like these, she faltered. After all, when your livelihood demanded seeing patients with basic health concerns, you generally were too exhausted by the end of it to really care. She had been helping to track down a certain member of the spice trade for several months now, and being the high-profile member of a prominent up-and-coming cybernetics company, would be a massive embarrassment.

Especially if it were 'accidentally' leaked if he didn't give in information that they needed.

She had heard through the grapevine this girl was good, savvy with picking up info and smart on the go. Just the type of personality she needed. But their third companion she drafted up specifically for their own set of talents for this particular mission... and part of this mission would be a massive payoff not only for herself, but for those involved, and those whose own lives were ruined by his less-than-savory business taste.

But first to even prove he was dirty.

Holed up in the hotel room, she waited for her companions to arrive. Dressed in black slacks, a grey blouse and a common leather jacket, she could have been anyone. However, there was no fooling the relaxed pose, and there was no fooling that she kept this man under personal observation for a while. Hopefully these people would be good on their reputation.

If not, this would be bad business on all sides, particularly hers. She tapped on her datapad, waiting for their arrival to the designated room. They would both have access and keycards.

It was not uncommon to get pulled into some investigative journal work in the core, there always seemed to be some sort of swindle that was happening, more covertly compared to the mid and outer rims of the galaxy. Mara tended to stay put in the center of the galaxy, preferring the covert than the overt tactics of the crime syndicates and cartels that seemed to play by their own rules. At least here if something were to ever happen, there were laws to protect, laws to outlay justice, instead of the lawlessness that dictated survival. Though in some similar fashion there was a survival that reflected like one would see in the outer rim, but no one would admit it. Those present were too wrapped up in their naivety to recognize the similarities; it was certain one thing she did not like about the academy, the arrogance.

Mara had finished her cocktail, more fruit juice than liquor, but it was enough to keep her alert as she waited for further instruction in the hotel lobby. She was dressed casually, fashionably to most familiar with the styles of the core worlds, the only thing unruly about her seemed to be her short curly hair which never agreed with what she wanted. Her bag rested by her feet and her data pad laid in front of her as she flipped through all her subscribed reads. They were never ending, but over the years she became better at finding what she needed in between what was actually written. So for those who would be overcome by just the fatigue of the speed of information falling in from the holonet, it at times bored Mara.

Her data pad would soon chime, an encrypted message revealing the room number where she needed to meet the others. She tipped her glass one last time to reach the ice chips, crunching on them as she stood up and dropped some credits on the counter for the bar tender. Mara closed the device and slipped it back into the large pocket of her bag before slinging it over her shoulder. She inhaled deeply, relaxing any nerves that remained as she headed to the room, alerting the Doc with a gentle knock to her arrival.

THEME

The meteor airspeeder glided through the air before arriving gently thanks in part to the expert handling of the Morganian at the controls. He wore a suit and had a pair of driving gloves which left the wheel as the vehicle was silenced. Opening the door he left the parking spot and headed into the hotel. Checking his wrist chrono he noted the time and walked through the lobby.

Lucien had yet to be filled in on the full details. It seemed that was a trend in real life shady dealings. Then again, he should be used to it by now. It was the same way in show business. But what had made the Morganian stuntman come along was more of curiousity. The Arkanian doctor who had treated his work related injuries from time to time asked for assistance. His skills at the controls of a ship and general capability as a man were known but he wondered if Ilana had invited for an alternative excuse. For one thing, Lucien knew the Doctor was a curious person herself.

Heading to the hotel lounge he expected to wait there a few moments. But he received a similar electronic alert as the curly haired stranger nearby. He replied that he acknowledged receiving the message but didn't say where he was. Changing his direction he headed towards the turbolift. Arriving there first he waited to one side, holding the door for the elevator until Mara was aboard and giving her a pleasant smile. "Which floor?" He would push the one they were both heading to even if she didn't say after a moment's pause.

A long time ago, someone said doctors made poor business partners. Perhaps that was true, perhaps not. But a time for grief was over. A new chapter of her life had begun, and with it a few changes. One of which was the cybernetic business; between the events on Coruscant Prison, to Corellia, to even the bombings on Nar Shaddaa, the want for cybernetics to the injured had increased, and her interest as a physician doubled with her interests of legitimate business. This was a first step in the right direction... and it was a business that almost flaunted its' illegal activity under Sector Ranger noses.

She sipped on her drink idly, typing out the message to both the journalist and her other contact. She considered Rawl, but for some reason he didn't answer, so Lucien seemed a fair second choice. Slowly rising up from her seat, her datapad let out another chime. Another one of her contacts informed her their mark had left his home; they would keep her updated.

She grimaced. If they were doing nothing but tailing, it wouldn't be cheap. But she would manage to pay them off. After all, silence was cheap, but death was cheaper, and if they were lying or paying them off, there were plenty of others that would accept her credits instead. At their entrance and knock, she would give a verbal acceptance to enter, and their given keycards would allow them in.

At their arrival, she stood, giving a slight incline of a bow.

"Welcome, thank you for arriving. Please, take a seat."

It was modestly furnished, but a tasteful suite, with a wide window balcony that peered into the urbanized skyline of Coruscant. A small dinette bar sat with two stools before a corner galley kitchenette.
"Drinks before we begin?"

It turns out she was not the only one headed to suite where the "doctor" was waiting. The man in the lift was slicker than Hutt slime and happened to be going to the same floor and eventually the same room as herself. Mara was feeling fairly uneasy about the situation, mainly she did not know exactly what she had gotten herself into and now there was some strange man following her directly where she was going. It probably would have been wiser to stun bolt this guy and jet, but seeing he carried a key card that permitted them entrance to the room as well as herself, that idea would need to be on hold.

Inside waited the woman, she was alone from what Mara could tell and took a seat on one of the stools as she had offered them a drink. Mara denied, having had a drink prior, she did not need to over do it. Her eyes settled on the man who had accompanied with her to the room hoping for an introduction and if they were going to be working together or if he were just extra security to ensure she was not someone who will swindle them out of credits. Mara set down her bag on the floor next to her feet and rested an arm on the counter, so far the experience was going to make an interesting story.

He was not surprised by the nervous expression on the woman's face and body language after they exited the elevator together. The whole ride they had stood silently, listening to the sound off the turbo lift before exiting. Lucien let the woman exit first. While he was curious to see which direction she went, and also to settle a hunch, but also for chivalry's sake.

After entering the quaint suite the Morganian would give the Arkanian a smile and accepted the offer of a seat. His eyes looked around the place all the same, looking for areas that a person might hide behind or otherwise possible exits. Then he began to wonder if this was going to be where they were operating out of. It was likely. From what he knew about the Doctor she was, or at least had been primarily operating out of Hutt space. So if she was here then maybe something even greater had changed in her life.

"Not if I'm driving..." He cocked an eyebrow. If she wanted him to be driving soon on short notice, that was something he was trying to subtly ask. He did not know the curly haired woman yet. "Otherwise, if you have anything aged for more than seven years I'll have that."

Amarante was the silent type, which was a point in her favor. She had specifically chosen the journalist for her previous analysis, and her reader numbers, which were above her peers in several regards. She could trust Lucien as well, not only for his ability for confidentiality, but for his own personal skill set and natural charm.

"Better than driving," she replied with the slightest hint of a smile. "I have a role for you. For both of you, actually," she stated calmly, rising to stride to the window.

"Do either of you know of genetic modding, cybernetics, and the sale of spice connected to the Hutts and other cartels, and what they have in common?" she asked calmly, tilting her head to the window so they might look as well. Across the busy highway of Coruscant there was an office, and within they would witness the form of a humanoid, seated before his desk.

"Vandel Crane, CEO of one of the biggest manufacturers of cybernetics in the galaxy. And also a hired 'business analyst' on the side of the Black Sun, the Hutts, and who knows how many other pies. And if you know of the recent plague of the galaxy..."
her voice deliberately trailed off, letting them ask questions or make statements of their own conclusions.

So there was no introductions, but yet they were both in this game together with her. Mara leaned forward some when the woman began to speak, carefully listening to her describe her purpose for this adventure. It seemed like a mix bag of connection as she made her opening, however, for Mara, they all sounded like a great deal of credits were poured into each, a common denominator that was not unheard of when it came to blackmail and uncovering underhanded schemes. The journalist noted the small head tilt and her gaze slowly looked over to the window of a neighboring building, the silhouette of a figure was clear and clearer that it would be their target.

Mara sat a little straighter upon the mention of the plague. If she were talking about the physical plague, her interest was now more of a necessity. She had been pressing to get an interview with the doctor working in the epicenter of the disease. However, knowing there were connections to the Black Sun made her stomach twist enough to make her hesitate. She knew how vicious they can be about their assets and this was certainly going to be an issue if they kriffed up this assignment.

"Seems large enough...interesting to see the FWA turning a blind eye to it." the woman stated flatly in observation.

Lucien was curious and the Doctor had his attention. He had asked her if she partook in recreational substances previously. But now she was not only talking about, but infering the trio were going to get involved in this black market intervention.

Staying quiet, he noted where both of the women looked and followed their eyes. Lucien had never heard of the man before but did know a thing or two about cybernetics. Some stuntmen lost limbs and needed them replaced. He had been injured and gone through physical therapy before, recovering fairly quickly, but noting those that were less lucky than him with a cybernetic foot here, a few digits there. Lucien wasn't sure where the Doctor was going with this yet but he was patient.

Giving Amarante a sideways glance at her question, his eyes looked back at Ilana, since he was keen to hear her answer. Had the FWA turned a blind eye? If they did it was probably due to corruption. The plague on the other hand, that is not just a case of medical supplies or a freighter full of spice even. The mention of the plague gave Lucien the feeling there was the shadow of something larger. It felt like a tree that could fall any which way and he was standing too close. It was just a mater of time before the timber leaned one way and came crashing down. "Do you mind if I smoke?" He asked politely and came closer to look out the window with the other two.

She gave a one-shouldered shrug to Amarante's question, amber eyes flicking over to her. "As far as I'm aware, FWA is either ignorant or there's suomething else going on." At Lucien's question, however, she gave a one-shouldered shrug and nod. "Go ahead."

She paced away, arms crossing.

"I have been doing civilian research with a friend. There is a connection to the Hutt labs on a Separatist colony to the plague. However, there's more to it than that. I'm hoping that man will be that other source. I need you..." she nodded to Lucien, "to go undercover as an interested businessman keen to extend a freighting business with his offered products. And you," she nodded to Amarante, "to record anything you can get as information to link them. You're welcome to have creative license for anything you may publish afterwards," she gave a small smile.

After all, they had full option to leave if they wanted. But if they accepted, they would be amply rewarded.

Ilana confirmed what Mara had thought; and though there was always the option for ignorance, the FWA was too big to not know of something as such to fly under the radar as it has been. There were many dangerous diseases in the galaxy and she was certain the officials of the FWA have been briefed on all them that pose a threat to civilians. Mara took in a deep breath realizing how much this story can project her in the next stages of her career as a journalist, however, getting the information and getting it published had to come first.

The man next to her had inquired if he could smoke and the woman allowed him before continue on with the plan. He would be a businessman interested in the product, and it sounded like she would just need to gather all the information she could while looking pretty beside him. Though it was a position that Mara frowned upon in her journalism career, it sometimes was needed as come to find, there are plenty of dense beings who roamed this galaxy, especially in the upper tiers of credits.

Though there was the downside to this: it could all blow up in her face and either tarnish her name, or she could wind up dead. Mara did not need too much time to decide as she made her choice.

"I'm in."

Lucien ignited his cigarette and took a breath of the smoke before letting calmly blow back out into a cloud that splashed and dispersed against the surface of the glass in front of him. He stared out the window towards where this black marketeer resided as he listened to the Doctor. This was a lot of information and theories that Ilana was bringing up which warranted a cocked eyebrow.

"Cybernetics and a freight company expansion...suggestions for relating them? Do I hire only amputees?" He paused giving that a bit more thought. He might have to circle back for a charity idea later. He would eventually come up with one. With a creative mind and an affinity for acting this would be right up his alley. "When do we start?"
