Nightsister Baptism

DESCRIPTION

Nightsister magick is a complex and difficult thing to grasp in part because there are multiple components to it. While anyone can theoretically learn or be taught the words, incantations, and gesticulations to execute a spell, these will only work while present on Dathomir.

That is, unless one has been baptized. Upon completing the selection process (as a teenager), a Sister will undergo her final rite of passage. Though the exact details vary from tribe to tribe, most involve having to obtain a specialized ingredient in order to create the initial dosage of the Waters of Life.

During the Clone Wars, the Nightsister Clan of Talzin would have its members dive into the underground waters, subdue the Sleeper (an ancient and Force-connected creature), and return a piece of the beast to the ground above.

This essence would create the Waters of Life and with the assistance of multiple members of the Clan, this essence would be infused into the Sister in question to bind her - body and soul - to Dathomir, turning her into an extension of the planet's ichor.

In some Sisters it would cause their blood to physically turn green and their veins pumped with the ichor of Dathomir. More commonly, though, there were no physical manifestations of this essence.

The non-physical alterations, however, are why the Sisters undergo the process. Baptism allows them to access the powers of Dathomir while off-world and to conjure the Waters of Life. While learning the techniques is still necessary, only those who have been baptized are able to access Nightsister magick while off of Dathomir.

INTENT
This is something that's been hinted at, implied, or actually outright described in a lot of places: TCW, Dark Disciple, Battle Scars, and Fantasy Flight. I tried to flesh it out and define things and it also helps explain why Nightsister magick is not acquired throughout the rest of the galaxy. Because this is a new concept, this won't necessarily apply to characters who learned magick previous to this being posted, but will be a requirement going forward. Although it isn't required to be physically RPed out, it does require joining or being completely endorsed by a Clan.
