Hello Everybody, new guy here!

RPing has always been a big part of my life, but I haven't done text-based ones for a good while now - five years, give or take a year or two, by my estimates.
Also, I've never done any Star Wars RP before, which only now strikes me as odd, since I am (and always have been) a huge Star Wars dork - but aren't we all?

I know what you must be thinking, and let me tell you that you're probably right. Episode VII came along and rekindled the flames of passion, and after watching it I just had to go look for my old copies of KotOR and (try to) install the games - which demands a considerable amount of work to do in windows 7 or above! - along with some mods!
But that just wasn't enough to satisfy my craving! Then, I came across this site...

All in all, what I'm trying to say is that I hold each and everyone one of you responsible for making me want to start doing text-based RP again!
As such, you have my deepest gratitude!

I don't like to make assumptions, but as it stands, I'm guessing I'll have some good times RPing here. Hopefully for a long time, as well.

P.S.: Would this thread be a good place for me to ask a few questions - emphasis on the "few" - regarding character creation?

Glad to be on board! I'll ask them here then, since I don't think I need to go and bother an Admin just yet!
All the questions that I have concerns the creation of my PC's biography, nothing more.

1) Lightsaber crystals

Are we allowed to use any crystal on the EU and other non-canon sources. Can we even create our own versions of lightsaber crystals - i.e. costume colors, flickering etc - based on any existing ones? Or is there a list somewhere on the site that I haven't found yet?
Just so you know, I'm not aiming for anything over-powered, or even something that will affect the "duel" mechanics in any way. Just a crystal and LS that - similar to how it already happens in the SW universe - reflects my PC's traits.

2) Major/Significant War

I'm planing to have my character be a veteran of a war, or at least some significant conflict - not a hero or key player, merely a survivor. Instead of reading up on everything you already got posted on the site - which I plan to do more or less given ample time - I would appreciate if you could point me towards one; any one for that matter, it doesn't have to be very recent - 5 to 10 years ago would do. That way, I could go right way and read up on that war/conflict and the major key players and events of that conflict.

3) Regarding Factions

Since I'm planning to have my character start out as a bit of a lone wolf, would it be okay if he's unaffiliated, or do I still need to join a small (probably independent) faction. Would you recommend that I create my own independent faction instead? - I don't mind doing the extra work, in fact I enjoy it; and I see no problem in waiting for approval from any admin either.
Since I'm new to the site, I would just like to hear from the more experienced RPers on the subject before making any decisions.

Edit: regarding lightsaber crystals, as far as i know you can have whatever crystal you want, they just arent allowed to have any mechanical benefit. I.e: make the blade do more damage or be better against certain things etc.

In regards to wars and factions, are actually going to be starting a new timeline sometime within the next month to realign with the NuCanon. I will link the relevent threads when i am off my phone, in the meantime you can head over to the Timeline Announcement board and the Dawn of the Republic planning board to check out all the cool new stuff that the admin team is currently working on.

Sure, you can make up something. Just be aware that they can't help you in combat in any real way. They're just for aesthetics/flavor.

I'd recommend reading this. There's a war for you. If you want something more recent, there's a few things as of late like the Battle of Naboo, but I'd recommend going with the Story Overview for something like what you're hinting at.

1. You can be unaffiliated.
2. I wouldn't make a new Indie. Our current timeline's ending in a month and a new one is starting right after. I'd recommend holding off until after that.
3. That said, I always recommend being a Faction-member over being a true Indie character. Main Factions let you do more in general.

Hey, thanks for the fast reply! And yes, the lightsaber crystal I'm thinking of serves both for aesthetic and background/RP purposes. But, no effect whatsoever in battle - in fact, if I do give it one, it will be a negative effect to my character, from a RPing perspective.

I'll go unaffiliated for the time being then, I'll let my PC interactions with other characters decide his fate and if/when he joins a faction.

I won't have time to do a profile today, but I'll try to get a simple one up tomorrow.

Once again, thanks for the warm welcome everyone, and all the answers to my questions. At first, I thought the new timeline was something along the lines of five or ten years ahead of the previous one, possibly to close some chapters and give time to unfold new plots, so I began catching up on the current story. Boy, was I wrong!...

I'll go ahead and just plan my PC for the new timeline then, no point in doing one for the current "dying" one.
