DESCRIPTION​

The Nu-class attack shuttle is an armed transport manufactured by Cygnus Spaceworks for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. This design is the direct predecessor to the Imperial-era T-4A Lambda-class shuttle, and was a major component of the Republic's war effort, being used primarily to ferry personnel and supplies to remote outposts, and for small unit insertion and extraction in hostile areas. It could also function as a respectable anti-ground gunship, thanks to its flexible armament.

The Nu-class attack shuttle is similar in many ways to its Imperial successors, using folding wings to reduce its landing footprint and improve its shipboard handling characteristics. 18.9 meters in length, the Nu is flown by a crew of 2, including a pilot and a gunner, plus up to 24 passengers, usually armed troopers. Cargo capacity is 12 tons, plus 1 month worth of consumables. The Nu has a top speed of 50 MGLT, and boasts a class 1 hyperdrive. Armament includes 2 dual medium laser turrets mounted on the sides of the cockpit module, plus 2 fixed mounts on the main fuselage each with a single medium and light laser cannon. Notably, the Nu has a front-mounted boarding/disembarkation ramp located below the cockpit, allowing for rapid deployment of troops and equipment. The cockpit itself can detach as an escape pod, and has a capacity of 14, augmented by 2 conventional 6-passenger pods in the main portion of the ship. This is generally superior to later Imperial designs, which would dispense with nearly all emergency escape systems except for the detachable cockpit.

Nu-class attack shuttles saw widespread use during the Clone Wars, however the type was quickly phased out of Imperial service afterward, replaced by more modern types such as the Lambda. Surplus examples saw service across the Galaxy, including by the Alliance to Restore the Republic, who used them in roughly the same way the Republic had. In the present day, the type is rare to come across, but can still occasionally be found, and is generally still quite serviceable.
